I will never ever ever ever ever have drugs/smoking/weed or what ever i won't have anything. its like the person is risking there lives doing those things. i mean i hate watching people smoke or do anything...it grosses me out and i wanna live a long long time and to do that i'm not going to do those things!!! i want a active body and to live a long long time.

As for my input, I have never tried weed, not even in high school. So not "every" high schooler has tried it. I just never felt compelled to, and every guy I dated in high school was a "pothead" meaning they hung out with friends on a regular basis and got high. So I had access to it, just never wanted to. I actually almost did try it last year, but decided not to. I had just been accepted to college so I didn't want to risk it at all.

The most I have smoked is Hookah, which was basically just really relaxing, and my friend in college paid for about 6 of us to hang out and do that. It was free, the first week of college, and I thought I would be a little bad ***.

I do drink. I have never been drunk, but I do drink. I like trying drinks. I love me some rum & coke though.

As for it being legal, I disagree. I don't want it legal, the problems will just increase than decrease. I drink in a way where it is not harmful for my health, and almost 90% of the time my parents/family have been around while I drank. So I mean, I don't see it as a big deal?

I am pretty straight edge honestly, but accepting of others choices and lives. Life is a party, live it however you want to

So what happens to the kids who now have nothing to do after high school because 1) they can't afford college. 2) jobs are few and far between. 3) they can no longer enter the military due to their age.
What happens then?

That proportion, I believe, is small. There have been a few cases around here where I know kids who went in just because they wanted to kill people. Naturally, they didn't tell the recruiters that, but that's what they told me. Said they were going to go "kill some sum*****es" or "riddle that towelhead with holes". If that's your state of mind, you're not a) educated enough to go to war or b)developed enough (brain wise) to go to war. And honestly, this is what student loans were made for. If somebody wanted college bad enough, they'd take the loans. If somebody wanted the military bad enough, they'd wait.



Then complain about it! If there's laws in place, legally the school needs to enforce it. If they don't, you gotta take charge of your health and demand they abide by the laws.

See, I have. and the school says they can't do anything about it. They can't patrol every building because there simply isn't the man power. I've asked people to not smoke right in front of the doors, but do they listen to me? No way. What do they care? They're killing themselves already, what's hurting a few more kids trying to go to class. And as long as they appear to be 20 feet from a building, they're not breaking the rules.

If you're gonna do 'em, do 'em safely. There's too many people in my dorm who are here because they've got bad pasts. One of them was an alcoholic his freshman year. Another was alcoholic before she even graduated high school. I've seen drinking do to much harm to people I consider friends to ever try it. As for smoking this is why:

Armand J. L., 1934-1998. Died of Lung Cancer.
Linda J. M., 1956-20??. Emphyzema. (She's not dead yet, but she's lucky to be able to breathe).
Joseph M. M., 1947-20??. Should by all means be dead, but two expensive surgeries to clear his blocked arteries later, he's still smoking.

The first is my grandfather. The second is my mother. The third is my father. I won't smoke because I don't want to see myself end up like them.

We have so many around here. Its as common as Starbucks. I loved it. We tried apple flavor, which was alright but gave me a headache after a while. Then we ordered I believe it was a strawberry daiquiri flavor, or some type of fruity drink like that, and it tasted like heaven in smoke. So good. but I already had a headache from the apple one so I didn't get to much of it. It basically was so chill. They had a bunch of posters around that were pretty trippy, and then this middle eastern type music. I went with a bunch of jewish kids (not stereotyping but apparently hookah is really common with that crowd lol) so they were explaining everything ect. It was nice.

I have been meaning to go again, but I just have been so busy with other things.

Sorry, but no. You're not. You just choose to drink responsibly. Please don't misuse this title again, it's offensive to me to see somebody who, albeit responsibly, chooses to drink use it. Straight Edge doesn't mean "Once in a while" it means "never".

The problem is, even though there's laws here, too to prevent public smoking, it's still there. It's a ***** on campus. You're not allowed to smoke within 20ft of a building, but people do it and they always stand right in front of the doors. I have no choice but to walk through their smoke. I can either walk through it or not go to class and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $24,000 a year and not go to class.

This happens ALL the time on my campus. We have a 25 foot rule and NO ONE cares! And when you are behind someone who is smoking and the smoke just trails behind onto you.

I don't want it at all. I would love to make smoking outside of your home illegal, period.

I can't quote it, but about the military thing why should they have to wait just because school is not for them. Are you saying they waste away 6 years of their life(until they are 24) working at some fast food joint, grocery store, ect. living off minimum wage in prob. some crappy apartment because they can't afford anything else, before going into the military. Honestly that is not right.

Not everybody goes into the military just to "kill." They go to defend their country, gain independence, learn a skill, and HUNDREDS of other reasons. Just because school is not for them, and they don't want to pay back thousands of loans doesn't mean they should put their life on hold.

Most of my friends drink and/or smoke pot, and some of them are smokers. I really have a neutral stance on things like that -- It's not hurting anyone as long as you're not out driving. And I don't buy into the whole "weed is a gateway drug" thing because the people I know who smoke weed have never gone on to any hard drugs. And I think that America should lower it's drinking age to at least 18.

Things like heroin, meth, coke, etc., I would could never be friends with someone who was addicted to those. Addictions like that, IMO, are disgusting and they hurt everyone around them.

Now, if you are legal and drink? That's a different story. Theres a reason of why the drinking age is at 21 or 18.. or whatever. If it's at 21 which Im pretty sure it is.. I guess it should be lowered to 18. If you can smoke, serve in the army, live on your own.. then you should be able to have a beer.

I've only drank a few times. And it was when my mom and sister made Daqueries(sp?) and I'd have like a super small cup. I've never gone out drinking with friends and I don't think I ever would.

This, too. It's really annoying to have to walk behind somebody or near them and they decide to light up. Ticks me off and I have to stop walking for a bit afterwards to catch my breath or just stop walking at all and wait for them to get out of range for me to smell them.

I've just never met them. The people I've met who smoke pot are really stupid. Only two of the fifteen or so I know who smoke pot went to college. One's already been kicked out for drug use. Three months into her freshman year. The others are all, to the best of my knowledge, free loading off their parents. One tried to rape a girl while high. Another totalled his car and killed a friend of his (not somebody I knew). And one of them was a really annoying girl I played volleyball with. How she made captain, I don't know.

I have never met someone in real life who smoked pot who wasn't a loser going no where in life. Pot isn't as bad as cigarettes, it just seems to attract the idiots around here. Everyone I met my first year of college who smoked pot have dropped out! College isn't for everyone. I am sick of it myself. But I think their pot usage correlates to their dropping out. The people I knew in high school who smoke pot don't work and just sit around and drink and smoke pot and are a general leech on society. It's a pathetic way to live.

Not everybody who smokes pot is an idiot, a loser, and a waste. Their are plenty of people who do it just to relax, have a good time, whatever their reasoning. I think the idiots are the ones that smoke constantly, brag about it, do harder drugs, ect.

That's pretty much why I refuse to smoke anything. My grandmother died at 59 from emphysema. My grandfather died at 6- from heart disease and emphysema. My dad still smokes, as do 2 of his 3 siblings. I just don't understand it.

I don't smoke or do drugs. I think it's gross. Recently my best friend tried both, and said she hated it, but she's still done it again. Kinda freaks me out.

As for drinking, I'm not really against it. I was last year, but I'm more "eh, whatever" to it now because basically 90% of my grade (seniors...there's 180 of us) drink. Literally the second senior year started, the major parties began. People who seemed "straight edge" were suddenly seen in facebook pictures looking trashed and talking about how wasted they got the next day in class. It's not about, "whoa that's so bad *** that you drink" anymore, it's all about how much you're drinking and who's bringing the beer to the next party. I actually don't drink, and one reason is because I haven't been exposed to it too much yet. I've been to a couple of parties this year where there's been some drinking, but most of my friends and I didn't. And my parents don't drink. My mom has a bad liver reaction or something to alcohol, and my dad is a recovering alcoholic. He had his last drink more than 20 years ago. So both of them, especially my dad for obvious reasons, get really protective of me in that sense. I'm also on a certain medication at the moment that can cause me to get drunk faster and end up really sick if I do drink. So that is the main reason I don't. I'm not saying I never will. Especially since I'm not going to be on that medication forever. I personally don't have this strong will to get drunk though, unlike the majority of my grade. Being responsible about how much I've had to drink and making the right choices is what's important to me in the long run.

I don't see why you need to be a part of a religion to have faith in God.

It's not about belonging to a group, it's about a lifestyle.

Straight Edge is so much more than not drinking and smoking. It's about not being promiscuous. About living life freely and having the advantage of a totally clear mind. It's also about the music.

You should thank anybody who is straightedge if you've ever been to a show in a bar when you were under 21. When they mark your hand with an "x" to show that you're underage and are thus unable to drink, that started with the straight edge movement in D.C.. The band Minor Threat played a gig in a bar, they found out that several members of the band wouldn't be let in because they were underage. They came up with the idea that the hands of the underage people would be marked to tell bartenders not to serve them alcohol. Minor Threat also coined the term "straight edge" in their song of the same name.

It started as a youth movement. It's still going strong as a way of life.
