Drugs

i have not tried pot yet mainly because my friend who is really big on it told me she threw up the first time she tried it. i hate throwing up so.. EW!

i'm probably going to end up trying it anyway.

i don't drink much. my mom sniffs me whenever i get back from parties xD

thats why i always slept over at a friends house :thumbsup2 hahaha

maybe it's just where i come from but i know soooooo many people who have/still do smoke pot and i'd say the deadbeat losers are the minority!
sure i know some dudes who got kicked out of school and never went to college because they'd rather sit at home and smoke pot, and i know a few chicks who do the same.and i've heard of some stupid kids form my hs who drove while high.
but honestly, most people i've met in uni/most friends who go to uni have/do smoke pot and they're people you wouldn't expect it from.
perhaps it's because i associate with people who do it in moderation though and not fulltime idiot stoners.

my opinion is recreational/social use is fine by me, but anything past that gets veryy murky very quickly.

Pot smokers around here are also kinda jerkish. I live in the Chem Free dorm on campus because I just don't want to be around the kind of behaviour common at a college like mine. The kids who smoke pot around here make a point to come and blow the smoke into our open windows and leave their joints in our bushes. I really couldn't care less if they didn't act like *******s to me for not wanting to do what they're doing. I know I can't force them to stop and as much as I think it should be outlawed entirely, I know it isn't going to happen. So, I do support safe areas to go and smoke/drink for people who choose to do so. But just once, I'd like to meet somebody who smokes and isn't an *** to me for choosing to not smoke.

wow! i don't even think they HAVE chem free res buildings at any of the unis around here! (and if we do i've never heard of them!) that's really cool though that you can actually make that choice!! i think around here if you live on res, you almost have no choice but get pressured to at least drink on occasion.
that's great that your school gives you the option to live in an environment that you think is safer :thumbsup2 and i know what you mean about people who are jerks about straightedge people.
i have friends who are rather deviant, but i also have straightedge friends, and i actually think it's great when people make the choice not to participate in something that they don't believe in!

I don't drink, I don't do drugs.
I have nothing against those who drink, but it doesn't sound like a good time to me. I don't want to get drunk thanks, I'd rather not deal with hangovers and the such. I don't think I'd want to be in the company of a drunk person either. I think I'd just be annoyed.

As far as pot and smoking goes, it's that persons decision. But I really don't want them smoking anything arou nd me.
If one of my friends all of a sudden decided to start smoking or doing drugs I'd probably throw somethinga t their heads.

Personally, I will never do drugs/drink/smoke. None of this stuff appeals to me at all. Kids at school drink ALL the time and then they come to school and talk about how drunk they were like it's completely awesome they couldn't function all night. Okay then. If you're legal and want to drink, whatever, just don't drive.I'm not talking like a few glasses of wine, I'm talking a lot of alcohol. My friends dad is an alcoholic so I know what it does to people.

Drugs, I have no opinion on because I don't know enough about them other than I've always been told they were bad. I will not do drugs, and I actually don't know who does them at school, but unless it's affecting me or hurting someone else, I don't really care.

Smoking is disgusting. Hands down. I'm mildly allergic to cigarette smoke and luckily my dad just stopped in about March. My great great grandpa died and smoking was something that added to his bad health.

I plan on never drinking, smoking, or doing drugs.
I know A LOT of people who are addicted to those things, and its really not appealing.
Smoking is just discusting. I can't stand being around smokers. Once I was in the car with a friend of my family and 2 of them were smoking in the car without rolling the windows down. It was torture.
I have a friend who does drugs. He would always come to school stoned/ high and he would always just look so horrible and he would act ridiculous.
My mom has a lot of friends who come over at partys and just drink to much. The way they act when they are drunk is just so disturbing. I could never see myself acting that way.

It's funny how I appear to be in the majority here, yet when I went to (well let's just call it) "camp" this past summer I was the only one, out of 20 kids, who hadn't smoked pot or drunk.

I was definitely the straight-edge kid when it came to drugs/alcohol.
I still have my own "vices", but I can't brag about them xD

I do smoke weed occasionally and I drink. Both personal choices and I am pretty smart about doing them. I always do them at friend's houses and they usually take my phone so I don't call anyone lol.

I don't do drugs. I find it repulsive, plus I can't stand the smell of smoke.
I don't drink. I'm not sure if I will when I'm older. Personal reasons.

If someone wants to drink or smoke, fine by me. Just don't involve me.

actually (gotta play devils advocate, i've had too many brain anatomy lectures) marijuana stays in the system longer than alcohol. (up to 48 hours after 1 use, the brain has not recovered from it and still exhibits symptoms of being "high" even though the user may no longer feel the "high")

and marijuana is also a teratogen.

if legalized, we would need a "field test" for police to preform to determine "public intoxication"

i'm completely for the legalization of marijuana, but its not fair to say that its not harmful to the body. if the laws concerning it were similar to drinking and smoking, i would have no problems with it.

a marijuana bar just opened in portland oregon, if i'm not mistaken.

Ah, but I never said it wasn't harmful to the body. ;)

As for the drinking age, I think it should stay where it is. I also think that the age to buy tobacco and to serve in the military should be raised to 21. Studies have shown that the human brain doesn't fully develop until about then. In my opinion, it shouldn't be "I'm old enough to fight for my country, I'm old enough to drink", it should be "I'm not old enough to fight for my country until I'm old enough to drink". I know, it's the temptation that makes kids want to do it, but whatever. It just proves some kids aren't smart enough to make decisions for themselves. Penalties for under-age drinking should be stricter. It shouldn't be a night in jail or a call to your parents, it should be a court date and counseling (it might be in some states, it isn't in NH on a first offense I believe). Drinking's dumb.

So what happens to the kids who now have nothing to do after high school because 1) they can't afford college. 2) jobs are few and far between. 3) they can no longer enter the military due to their age.
What happens then?

The problem is, even though there's laws here, too to prevent public smoking, it's still there. It's a ***** on campus. You're not allowed to smoke within 20ft of a building, but people do it and they always stand right in front of the doors. I have no choice but to walk through their smoke. I can either walk through it or not go to class and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $24,000 a year and not go to class.

It still sucks. I can smell it still and it reeks to me. I know full well the effects of second hand smoke. I've got minor asthma because both of my parents smoked while I was a kid. I know that you don't have to be a kid to have no choice in the matter. Because until a few years ago it was completely legal to smoke in restaurants here. And I don't care if there's a partition or a separate room for smoking, you can still smell it. Smoke travels.

Then complain about it! If there's laws in place, legally the school needs to enforce it. If they don't, you gotta take charge of your health and demand they abide by the laws.

'

to me everyone tries pot in high school

Wrong. I haven't. I have been OH SO FRIGGIN TEMPTED! to. But I haven't. It's the inhaling part that makes me want to puke.

I don't drink/do drugs/smoke. It disgusts me so much.

I'm against underaged drinking, illegal drugs, that stuff.

I'm in 8th grade and I'm positive atleast 100 out of the 500 kids in my grade level have done one of the above.

Ah, but I never said it wasn't harmful to the body. ;)

you said it was no more harmful than alcohol, which really isn't all that true. it affects the body in a different way than alcohol, and for a longer period of time.

i think another reason that pot is illegal (other than the government trying to impose morals) is that its viewed as a "gateway" drug.

I do drink occasionally. I do it responsibly and call my parents if i did have something to drink. They come and get me no questions asked. They would rather me have fun then die or get a DUI.
I dont think ill ever do drugs.....i hate it when my mom smokes around me and dont think i could stand doing that.

Drugs and smoking I hate with a passion. Now drinking is a different story.I do drink and I support a younger drinking age,18 sounds right to me.I would even be fine with 17 as thats the age you can join the military.

I don't drink or do drugs.
I am totally against it, for personal reasons.

I don't have a problem if other people do it, as long as they do not involve me and/or don't do stupid things that could hurt themselves or others while they are drunk/high.

I've had enough (medical) drugs to last me a lifetime. My town is full of stoners and smokers and addicts who get their fix from the Res and don't amount to a pile of **** in life. That's not going to be me.
