Driving vs. Flying to HHI Resort: Trying to Decide

We'll be doing the drive this summer with 3 kids under the age of 7 from Chicago. My youngest will be 19 months, and can complain if she is unhappy in her car seat for too long. Wish us luck!
We decided that it would be way cheaper than flying and then renting a car for the week. Plus we could bring everything we want in the car.
We will be starting on Friday night with a Sun check in, stopping in Charlotte to visit a friend. We will try to drive at night so the kids will sleep for as much of the trip as possible. We'll see how it goes. We may be a bit batty by the end of the trip and will be willing to pay for the flight next time around if it doesn't go well.
Good luck with your drive. I agree the fear factor is hard to get over.

We drive to HHI every spring from NH. It takes 2 days but we love having our own stuff with us; bikes and toys. Garmin "Gabby" does not like that we do not take I95 but instead go through VA on I81. This route is much easier because traffic is less and not as many large cities to navigate. When we arrive at HHI I forget the long drive and start relaxing immediately.
