driving vs. busing to parks

Last October when staying at CSR, we drove to AK on an EE morning and were not allowed to drive through the entrance gate until 15 min. before the park opened. By that time, several buses had been by and dropped off passengers, so the crowd waiting to get in was huge.

When we drove to MGM for EE, we were allowed to drive in immediately (at about 7:00 a.m.) and were at the front of the line.

We tried driving to Epcot for EE, and we again had to wait before driving through the entrance and into the parking lot.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is this unusual or normal? Just wondering - I'm planning again for this October. Thanks!

You probably used the auxilliary entrance to the Studios. This entrance isn't very big, and it would be impossible to hold cars back there. (Cast members and buses would still need to get through)

There was a thread about this a few months ago. Its been going on for quite a while, expecially at AK. In May of 2002, we had ressies for the Backstage Tour at AK. We were supposed to meet at 8:30 (park opened at 9). We took the car and they didn't open the gates until 8:30.

When we took trips in 89 and 95, (we were doing Commando style back then ) we drove to each park. I remeber we were 3rd in line at the MGM turnstyle but were also close for Epcot also.
