My Daughter and her Husband left tonight for their Disney vacation. They are driving from Ocean county NJ and she called me from the road and said they were in Virginia already on I-95.
She said her directions say to get off 95 and go onto 295 towards Rocky Mt NC. Is it necessary to get off of 95 s and onto 295 in Va? I don't ever remember doing that. Thanks for any info.

No, you can tell them to stay on 95 through Richmond. Taking 295 would add about 10 miles to their trip, and there should be no traffic concerns on 95 at this time of night. They should stay on 95 all the way down to I-4. Hope their trip is a good one!

Thanks I just needed a little reassurance before I told them. They are the only two people that I know of that actually crossed a bridge out of Phila and another one back into Phila and not even knowing they were not in Jersey but back in Phila! So if they can stay on 95 the rest of the way they should be ok. I told her just remember, when getting off 95 for gas, and breaks REMEMBER to get on 95s not 95 n!

295 is the beltway around Richmond. It is longer but has much less traffic on it than going through Richmond. If they are travelling at night, then traffic should not be a problem. On the return trip, if they hit Richmond during rush hour, they are better off taking 295. Please tell them to watch their speed in Virginia. We see more speed traps in Virginia and Maryland than in any of the other states.

We have found that unless it's peak rush hour, such as 8-9am, 4:30-5:30pm, it's always better just to stay on 95 and drive straight through DC. Maybe everyone else takes the 295 beltway and that's why it's not so bad, but anyway, that's our secret!
