We have six in our family, 2 adults - kids are 8,5,5,10 months. We are driving (I-75) and spending the night in GA - Tifton or Valdosta. Can we get one room or do we need two because of our family size? Whenever I try to check room rates online it says I can only have 4 to a room. Is this true? Do different hotels have different rules? Since the kids are young we can fit in a double queen room just fine for the night. Anyone with any knowledge on this? Definitely don't want to shell out the cash for two rooms if we don't have to!!

We drove down I-75 route in Feb. Make sure that you stop at the state rest stop/ Welcome centres and get the hotel coupon books. (I'm sure you will have to to let the kids run off some steam anyway.) We didn't know about the books when we started the drive, but quickly found out. It saved us a bunch. We stayed at a newer Fairveiw Inn & Suites by marriott for $40 one night! thumbsup2 But you will have to get two of each booklet if you want two discounted rooms. From what I know about the # of people in a room is that 4 is max because of Fire/saftey standards, but I also know that you can have an infant in there with 4 other people. So a total of 5 if one of them is an infant. That's what we did. HTH Have a nice trip! Oh and DO NOT go to the Econo Lodge/Inn in Tifton! :furious: eeewww!

Thanks for the tips!! We have stayed at a Microtel in Ohio with 5 people (before the baby) with no problem. Do different states have different fire codes at the hotels?

I check Microtel site and they never ask the number of kids, just number of adults. It just says that kids under 16 stay in the parents room for free. So it seems that I could get by with one Microtel room. But other hotels I would need two rooms.

Do anyone else have any experience with the number of guests per room?

Since we do have 4 small children it seems like I could check in and then bring the kids to the room by a door by the room................

It COMPLETELY depends on the hotel. We are a family of 6 also (4 kids). We look for Amerisuites, because they always have a pullout sleeper sofa to sleep the fifth and sixth people. I think the typical, general hotel room in the US sleeps 4...some allow a 5th with a rented rollaway bed. But 6 is tougher. Look for Amerisuites! I hope someone else finds your thread here and adds specific recommendations, since I don't know "safer" and "not-so-safe" areas in Georgia. I think Embassy Suites always sleep 6 also (pullout couch) in their regular rooms. All the ones we have ever tried did.

Sorry for getting on this thread. I had posted a thread earlier with regards to this exact question. Did you stop at the state rest stop/welcome center near Chattanooga TN ?

You should stop at the georgia welcome center or any rest area close to where you plan on staying for the night. Usually the last rest area from where you plan to stop for the night will have more hotels specfic to your stop. susan

I don't think that we stopped at the rest stop outside of Chattnooga, maybe though... We just made sure to stop at one in every state that we drove through. The coupons really helped us save.

Oh and to the original poster, I don't think that the motels would notice an extra kid, especially f you did enter though a door closer to your room. Don't worry about it.
