We are driving this June to Vero and WDW and are scheduled to leave BWV on July 4 to drive home to NJ. How bad is traffic on the holiday? I think it would be better to cut a day off our disney trip to drive home on Sunday, July 3rd? Any driving veterans out there to help me?

I can say it all depends on what day of week it falls on - this year, July 4th is on a Monday. That will be a federal holiday, so you won't have the whole entire Balt/Wash corridor traffic early in the morning or around rush hour, but you will see people returning to the area, who may have gone home for the holiday weekend.

We are leaving HHI on 7/3 but we stop overnight. I was hoping that if we get up early and beat the 7/4 late evening traffic in NY from the holiday it won't be too bad. Only time will tell.

We drove from FL to OH on July 4th...traffic was fine but there were ALOT of cops out there!!!! We really had to watch our speed.

I wouldn't cut a day off my trip to avoid driving on the 4th. Honestly I don't think it will be much different than the 3rd - and further more - you know if you cut a day off to avoid traffic you will be stalled by some huge accident and wish you hadn't done so.
