I will be traveling to HHI from NJ July 10th...the mapquest directions have us taking 195 for most of the trip...is the best route? Any traffic concerns??

Thanks

Around Maryland at the Tunnels you might hit some trafic.

Also Around Washington DC you might hit some traffic.

Once you get past Richmond VA you should be fine.

I Drove from Richmond to Hilton Head about 2 weeks ago and
hit very little traffic. I was driving on Sunday though.

I'm driving down again in 2 weeks ( Final part of my move to FL )
This time I'm leaving on Wednesday.

If you are leaving on a weekday, time your trip to avoid the Washington rush hour.

If you are coming through the DC/Virginia area during the week it is best to avoid the rush hours, if at all possible. Our rush hour going south starts at around 3:30 PM and can last until 6:30. Going north, in the morning, rush hour can start as early as 5:30 AM. If you have to be in the area during these times and have more than three in your car or have a hybrid, I would definitely recommend the HOV lanes.

We have driven to HH many times over the past few years. I agree with the other posters about avoiding DC around rush hour. We usually take the Baltimore Parkway down to DC, go through DC and pick up 95S on the other side. It takes less time and you can avoid some of the Beltway traffic.
Watch your speed in Maryland and Virginia. We saw the most speed traps in these two states. You might also want to check the NASCAR schedule and make sure there are no races during your trip. We drove back once and ran into a large amount of traffic in NC because there was a race scheduled.

We left delaware on the 24th at 9-10am ish, and I drove to Raliegh NC with out hardly any traffic. The next day I drove from Raliegh - Savannah, again hardly any traffic. There was an accident down in Lumberton. ( My husband was travelling Lumberton - Orlando )
The accident did stop traffic.
