Driving from the Chicago area...

Thought we could keep a post going for those making the drive from the area, updates on road contruction along both 57 and 65, favorite places to eat, sleep etc...

We are leaving 4/5 around 3:30P, going to try to make it to Mt. Vernon, IL for a late dinner and then driving thru and hopefully being around the Florida line for breakfast..

We haven't looked that far ahead yet, last time we drove at Easter, there was little traffic on 57 or 24, but 75 was very busy, even during the middle of the night hours.. I remember driving through Georgia at 3AM and feeling like it was 10:00A based on the number of cars..

I wish we were driving. I really enjoyed it.

I stopped at a very nice Country Inn & Suites about an hour's drive North of Atlanta. I really like that chain.

Does everyone take 57 these days? My whole family drove once in 1996 or so and took 65. Indy was a mess and of course the 294-80-Gary area is always bad...even more so now. I drove by myself in 2002 and took 57....so much nicer.
