We are driving from NC and leaving between 2-3 am. Will can anyone estimate in which city we'll have rush hour traffic?

I usually drive and am coming from the central Piedmont Triad area. I go 220 to 95 and then straight through to Daytona Beach and over to Orlando via I4. It's about 10 to 10 1/2 hours with a couple of quick stops.

If you leave that early you will be on 95 by 6am and shouldn't hit any rush hour traffic anywhere. Jacksonville is the only place I ever have any trouble and I always take the bypass around it so you should be fine in the early afternoon.

We drive from the High Point area (85 to 77 in Charlotte; 26 in Columbia; 95 in BFE, SC). It usually takes about 9.5 or 10 hours. Leaving at the time of day suggested in the OP, I wouldn't think rush hour would be a problem in any of those places.

From outside Winston-Salem, going over to the 77-26-95-4 route, we would hit Jacksonville, FL in just over 6 hours. That's your rush hour problem, leaving between 2-3 a.m. You are well past Savannah, and on the highway, so no worries there for traditional rush hour traffic. And you'll get to Orlando late a.m., which should be as good as it gets there (though you never know what Orlando city traffic will bring......).

1. Sorry about the grammar, it was late!
2. We are leaving from the triangle.
3. Thanks for the advice about Jacksonville and the bypass- we'll consider it.

On the Jacksonville bypass you want to take the bypass on the east side which is numbered 9A. We drove down from NC in Feb. and taking 9A was much less stressful than driving thru downtown or taking 295 (West side). You get to cross a sweet suspension bridge as well.

Sounds awesome! Can't wait to see the awesome bridge.

My tip for a trip like that is, if you are hitting Jacksonville between 7 and 9 am. You may stop for breakfast, gas, break, ectera just outside to delay yourself there and let things clear up. If you make it just before rush hour delay stopping so you can clear the city first.

I'm in Johnston County and we leave the house at 3:00am stop in SC about 5:00am (bathroom stop) and hit the SC/GA boarder at 7:30am (breakfast/bathroom stop). Then we stop at Palm Beach, FL (bathroom stop) about 10:30am, then arrive at POP about 12:30pm. (This is with three quick stops.) We're two adults, no children. I keep a log...I know I'm crazy over Disney.

We plan on stopping in Savannha, GA for gas, bathroom, etc. There is no way to change the mind of the driver on that one. As for the suggestion on the bypass, it looks like we're going to have to bypass the bypass. Apparently, suspension bridges are not going to work for us (fears). But thanks for the tip

We live in Jacksonville and the advice about 9A is dead on! :thumbsup2

But if you miss it and end up on 95, the I-95/I-10 split is where most of the congestion crops up. My big tip of the day is that there are TWO Lanes that split off to the left for I-95. You don't have to get in the far left lane two miles back from the exit!

I'm sorry that you won't be able to cross that bridge. But I totally understand! It is HUGE!!!
