Hi All!

Planning a trip in August - near Montreal to WDW. With our calculations of kilometers and $ of gas and kil./liter - we come up to $600 Cdn for gas. We are travelling in our 2004 Montana (it's the long version).

If you have travelled recently (maybe with a van too), does this sound ok?

Thanks!

Hi, We are from Montreal and are also driving down in August. There was an article in the Montreal Gazette recently talking about the new high gas prices and the cost of driving to different places I believe based on a Dodge caravan minivan-what they came up with for WDW was in the ballpark of $400 (a little over this) for a return trip.
Hope this helps.
Can I ask you what routes you will be taking down and how you plan on doing it ie. over 2 days etc? I'd love to hear from more people driving down from Montreal. Lots of information on folks driving down from Ontario.
Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

We drove down 5 years ago with a Dodge Caravan but didn't keep any info on gas prices (and maybe was not checking the budget as closely as we are this year).

Leaving Valleyfield, we took the 401 until Int. Bridge after Brockville. We then took the highway 81 thru NY, Penn. etc. and went on highway 66 in Virginia (don't know why but we followed the Triptik - I believe there was construction on 81). Anyway, we stayed for a small while on 66 'til saw signs for I95 and stayed on that until Florida. I remember staying at some great cheap hotels on I95. We didn't make ressie because we went middle June. We stopped in Richmond and in Daytona going down which was 3 days. Coming back, we stayed near Savannah (great great city to visit) and near Washington which was 3 days coming back too. This visit we will take 3 days (stop in Daytona) to go but only 2 coming back.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info.
We live on the West Island and will probably take 195 most of the way down. We are planning to do it over 2 days with one night in a motel/hotel. A lot of driving I know. I also heard great things about Savannah but I'll have to see whether we can wing it.
How did you find traffic on the I95? Is it intimidating?

I'll be driving down in July in my "short" Montana but have driven it twice with my "extended" Silhouette (Oldsmobile's version of the Montana). They get similar (great) gas mileage...the only significant difference is you can go about 950km with the extended van so you have to fill up less (a definite plus that I miss on trips to WDW). I would expect gas to cost you about $400 CAD with the new prices. Have a great drive. :)

My folks still live just off the West Island in Terrasse Vaudreuil and the last couple of times they drove down, they went by Gananoque and crossed at the 1000 Islands and down I81 to I66 to I95. They found it was no longer than driving straight south from Montreal and also missed Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
We just drove down this past March and took I81 to I77, I26 and then to I95. We actually preferred this route as there was not as much traffic (truck or car) and we made better time.

Hi: If you know anyone with Microsoft Streets and Trips it will calculate how much the gas will cost in the options section. You put in your start and end destination (with stops in the middle). Then you put in your car's gas mileage and the cost of gas per litre or gallon and it will give you the total. Great program. If you like you can tell me your details (starting city, gas mileage and price per litre you expect to pay - don't forget it is cheaper in the states) and I'll run it through the program to get the total.

Thanks for the tip John,

I think maybe we'll present this option to our CAA for the triptik.
