DH and I are thinking about driving down along the coastline and flying home because we will have the time on the way down. We have driven the straight highway route, but thought it might be nice to do the coast. Has anyone done this and how did they like it? How much longer did it take than straight highway? Did you think it was worth it? If we do drive down it will be the beginning of October. I would love input on this. Thank you.

We did the drive a few years ago. The best parts were the ferry from Cape May NJ to Delaware and then the Chesapeake bay Bridge tunnel. These are both fun ways to travel. But after that I would try to get over to 95 as quickly as possible. it is all a much slower drive than staying on the highway all the way, but much more scenic. Even the NJ Parkway is slower than the turnpike because you have to keep stopping to pay the tolls. But I think that doing the ferry and bridge/tunnel at least once is worth it. :Pinkbounc

We've driven down from MA several times. During our honeymoon trip, we made stops in Virginia to visit Colonial Williamsburg, and in Myrtle Beach. On our last trip, we drove straight down 95 and it was such a boring trip, we vowed never to do it again. This year, we're going to do what my family used to do in the past when we were kids....

We're taking 3 days to drive down, making stops in Washington D.C. to show the kids the monuments and spend a few hours in the Smithsonian, then on to Asheville N.C. where we plan to visit the Biltmore Estate for the day. If you've never been there, and have a chance to go, do it!!! This place has got to be seen to be believed...

The last stop before Disney will be in Atlanta, where we're taking the kids to the World of Coke Museum. Another fun place worth a few hours and pretty inexpensive too.

We're leaving the day after Christmas, and I'm almost as excited about the trip down as I am about Disney World. Then again, I'm not the one who'll be doing most of the driving ;)
