We are supposed to be leaving tomorrow morning from CT to head down to Lorton, VA to catch the autotrain. We are actually staying Sat night in VA then catching the train Sun morning. There is a good chance the train will not run seeing as how it is cancelled today and most likely tomorrow. My question is if we decide to drive it what are the conditions like driving from CT to Fl down 95?:scared:

Hi,

You must be so excited to exit this terribly cold weather! 95 looks good. Be very careful of ramps. They can get icy and have so much plowed snow nearby that they are very narrow. Hopefully, the train will be running. Weather service is predicting more snow in DC and MD on Monday afternoon. It's really getting ridiculous!

ummmm you may want to look at the big weather picture. parts of the country are getting now or expecting soon snow in places that ain't seen snow in a very long time, if ever . . .

from MSN:

Several oceanside communities in South Carolina including Charleston — which hasn’t seen recorded snowfall since January 2000 — could see between 2 and 4 inches of snow, said Jonathan Lamb, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Charleston.

And as much as 3 inches could hit Savannah, Ga., where snow was last traced in February 1996 — “and that was only 0.2 inches,” Lamb said. It’s been two decades since Georgia’s oldest city had any notable accumulation, with 3.6 inches falling in December 1989. Normally, temperatures in February don’t dip below 41 degrees.

They are getting snow in central Alabama and along the Florida panhandle . . . while not much remember people down here typically have no idea how to drive in it...and there's no salt trucks etc etc . . .

Yeah thats the stuff I'm afraid of! I'd rather be on the train but if the train is cancelled then... Well I don't know!

well checking a couple of forecasts along your route and other places expecting this weather, it appears the nasties will pass tonight and by mid morning tomorrow the skies will be partly cloudy and the temps will begin to climb a bit... if you're not leaving 'til morning you should be OK and hopefully the train will be running anyway. It uses freight tracks and those won't stay closed long....{but if freight traffic is backed up they may be bumping the AT due to conjestion}

by the way, pack warm the daytime highs in Orlando are not expected to exceed 65 with lows around 40 at nite . . . sorry 'bout that.

hopefully you can enjoy the AT ... done it twice myself ... bring snacks, drinks a good book and a loaded IPOD
