Drive or use Disney buses?

I have only been to WDW twice before...

In 2003, we stayed at AKL and we just parked the car and the buses were fine.

In 2009, again we stayed at AKL and except for a dinner at DTD and dinner at Poly, we used the Disney bus.

This time, we are going to be staying at CBR...and I am hearing such awful things about how big it is. I also have quite a few breakfasts planned this time (2 in monorail resorts). (we will be in a pirate room, so far from Old Port Royale)

Is driving everywhere my best option? Or at least driving to TTC and parking there on my MK and Epcot days :confused3

That is so exciting you are visiting Disney! Now I have never stayed at CBR although we looked at it as an option for our trip in June but decided for the Contemporary because of its proximity. We are Florida Residents, although, we are planning to use their busses because it is so much of a hassle to lug your car around (parking is free at Theme & Water Parks and your Resort hotel). At the Caribbean Beach Resort it is actually not the longest walk to Old Port Royal and the Main Lobby (where the Bus Stops are) so I have heard allow 5 to 10 minutes to walk and 20 minutes for nonstop buses (Hotel to Theme or Water Park and Downtown Disney) or 50 minutes for transfer busses (Hotel to Hotel; Downtown Disney to Theme or Water Park) so allow between half an hour to an hour for transportation. My final recommendation plan an itinerary and incorporate those specifics into it and TAKE THE BUS. It will save you time.

44 trips and never used a car...have had access to one, but it sits in the lot...I go to WDW to be chauffeured around....eat up my time...I'm on vacation...I got all the time I want and need and the transportation system is part of the fun....we plan accordingly and are not in no be deal to be anywhere at any given time...Bus picks you up and drops you off close....best deal about WDW is the free transportation. Monorail, boat or bus...will get you to your destination with no fuss......Rentals to us is a wasted expense......it's like stay in a value to save money and then pay for a rental when transportation is free...each their own though...

Even we have rented a car we still use the Disney Transportation. Have just got use to using it and being patient when we have to.

Stayed at CBR last September and was not the best experience with buses. Don't get me wrong we were never late for anything, just sometimes it would take quite a while for a bus to show up. If I could go back I still wouldn't change it, for me the busses are part of being at Disney for me, if I drove it wouldn't be the same

Love, Love, Love the bus transportation!!

One of the biggest factors for making a stress free vacation!

**Honestly, I cant even imagine driving around down there

are you in a rush? don't want to plan time to wait for a bus, or transfer busses? then use a car. If you don't mind the 'hassles' of any public transport system, than use the busses. I love the busses and I too am going to be at CBR for the second half of our trip. The 'issue' a lot of people take with distance and CBR is that there is an internal bus system because of how far some buildings are from the main building/bus stop.

I think your worst case is an occasional taxi if you don't rent a car. I always use the busses.

Yes, CBR is spread out. But so is POR. And if you take into consideration the long hallways at some of the deluxe/DVC resorts, then those are 'spread out' as well. But, CBR has multiple bus stops. So, you should be close to a bus stop. Now, of course, you may be on a bus that then makes another stop or two before heading to the park.

As someone already mentioned, if you are in a hurry or speed is of the essence, then take a cab. But, if you want to just get from CBR to the parks, the buses should be just fine. They really are no worse, or any better, than any other resort.
