I know they are a dying thing around the country - the land it to valuable -
our local one closed up 2 years ago or so for a new development -
I went last night with my three kids (DH was away) to one about 30 minutes away... and we saw Cars and POTC II for $15!!
The kids LOVED pulling th eminivan in and finally using the stadium seating - then dropping the seats to lay in the back and watch!
I LOVED that Davy Jones and his crew didn't scare the crap out of me that way :rotfl:

Got me thinking have you been? Is there still one near you?

The one nearest closed 2 summers ago. We miss it. I know there are still some around but probably at least an hour and a half away.

We're lucky, I guess, there are actually 3 in the area (within a 45 minute drive) but the one we go to most freqently is about half an hour away. The kids love it, we're going Tuesday (whole car full - $15) to see POTC2.

It is so much fun in the summer to go to the drive-in, unfortunately most have closed, because apparently they make most of their money from concessions, and I know myself that when going to the drive-in we always pack a cooler and bring things from home. Guess we should buy more treats there, so as to keep the place going. :drinking: popcorn::

The one neary my old sister's house has been closed for over 25 years. We used to be able to see a little bit of the screen through a few trees.

we have serveral around here. DH will take the kids to it, but I hate going. I don't like sitting in the hot car and the bugs! I am such a wimp!!

I picked the first one, but don't go anymore because they don't have them in our area anymore. I really enjoy them, but the city lights make the sky too bright here in Los Angeles, so you lose the view on the screen.

Hate it. I don't want to spend any more time in my car than I have to, I don't like to stay up that late, and the weather here is not conducive for drive in viewing.

We have one about 30min away. The boys love it and we try to go at least once a year. It also has two screens and shows two different movies at the same time. I wish they would do double features. I remember as a kid seeing a double feature of E.T. and The Last Starfighter, oh...what a great memory.

I would love to go to a drive-in, but there are none near us. :guilty: There use to be one in the town next to ours when I was kid, but it has been closed for a while.

We still go can't beat the deal 3 good run movies for $8.00 .Did Cars when it opened and did PotC Fri.

$7.00 a car and you can take whatever food you want .We don't do that to offend as we know they make their money off the snack bar so we buy there they have good food so it's not a problem.

Yea we use to drive up to the Churchville one it seemed a bit nicer with all the old cars outfront. Bengie's is not that far but 3 or 4 in the morning and anything is far away.

When I was younger we had about 7 or 8 to choose from now it's down to just 1 .They show that at the peak it was like 4,000 in the US and now only about 400 left .Our also states it's the biggest screen on the East Coast.

Which one do you go to? We used to go to the one in Churchville too.

We go to Bengie's in the Essex /Middle river area.

It's right off of Eastern Ave. by Martins Airport if that helps They advertise in the SUN .

So unless you are north of Churchville you should have no problem with the Bengies location as it's really just South of that area.

I think they are almost finished the 43 that will go from whitemarsh right to eastern Ave. and it will dump you right there I think.

We still go to the drive-in. We all love going. We're there practically every other weekend. :)

My kids are spoiled. They HATE the drive in movies. They want to be sitting in comfortable chairs in an air conditioned theater. Not outside being bug food. :)

Well, it was hard to vote. I have been and I loved it as a kid but there are none near me now. I voted none near. We used to go when I was a kid, probably at least once a month in season. I got to wear my pjs and take my pillow and I loved it! I'm sad to say my children have never been. :(

I used to go to driveins when I was younger but there isnt any around here anymore that I know of..

Im jealous though.. we went to Cars yesterday and it cost us $65 for 6 of us.. :guilty:

Ok, thanks. I am north of Churchville (we about live about 1 minute from the last MD 95 exit before Delaware) but I am getting more and more familiar with the Balt. area because my sons play hockey down there.

Yep we go sometimes it's fun! Some movies are just better seen in the movie theatres though.

I lived near one at grad school in rural Connecticut and enjoyed my trips there. There's one here in Atlanta but it's not somewhere we want to venture at night, so I've never been to it. I wish there was one I could visit, since I really enjoyed my experience....:)
