We just got a new one this year. It is not as cheap as I remember it ($5 for anyone older than 2). I read an article about the guy that opened the drive in. He went to the bank to get a loan and they laughed at him--then realized that he was serious. We went a few weeks ago and saw Cars. this weekend they were showing Pirates, but the bugs are really bad here right now.

no more around here :guilty: I had some of the best times at the drive-in as a teenager.....I couldn't begin to tell you what movies were playing, I got no clue :teeth: :lmao:

We're never bothered by bugs at the one we enjoy. Lucky because I wouldn't go otherwise!

I read recently that the drive-ins have made a bit of a resurgence in recent years in some areas. I hope that they continue to do so because they're so much fun!

we love the drive-in and were bummed they didn't show Pirates opening weekend - the sound system at our theater was terrible Friday night, so we are hoping to see Pirates at the drive-in soon and hear some of the dialogue we missed. We spend alot of SAt. nights at the drive-in during the summer and really miss it over the long NY winters!!!!! :sunny:

We have a very active one about 5 minutes from our house. It is GREAT and we go quite a bit. We back our Explorer into the spot and just open the back hatch and watch while reclining in the back and eating snacks. Families here show up early, and the kids run around and play before the movie starts. Lots of people put out blankets and chairs and watch next to their cars instead of sitting in them. I love it--but the last double feature about did me in.

There used to be 6 in my area now we have to drive to NH to go to one. DH and I love it but the kids didnt get it at all. My DS was confused about why we would rather sit in the car than go to the mall to theatre. :happytv: popcorn::

We have one in town here but, we have not been in years. Too hot, too many bugs ..............

The small town I grew up in here in GA, had one - The Judean - everyone there pronounced it "Jew-Deeeen". Had some great laughs there as a teen with my friends, since by that time, the jewdeen had started screening "adult" type movies like "Gas Pump Girls" and "Cherry Hill High". They had no problem letting in a car full of giggling teens - hey we were paying customers! We'd laugh ourselves silly at the "action", making stupid jokes the whole time. I never went there on a date. I would have been mortified. Sadly, the Judean was eventually razed and paved over into something else.

There was also one in So. IL, - The Egyptian - that I'd visit with my cousins growing up, whenever I'd visit my grandmother in the summer. It had a GREAT concession stand with a huge menu. The last time I went was when my sons were 10 and 6 and I wanted them to have at least one drive-in experience before they went the way of the dinosaurs. (Drive-ins - not my boys) Anyway, that last time, they had done away with the big, silver, clunky speakers that you used to hang on your window, in favor of a radio transmitter that you tuned into on your car radio. Just wasn't the same, for some reason.

There is three near where I live. One of them is in Litchfield, IL and you see two movies for two bucks each. We've gone a few times. We have seen Around the World in 80 Days, I, Robot, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The other two are located near Knights Action Park in Springfield, IL. I haven't been to those two yet.

We used to go w/the family when we were little. We would all pile into the station way in backw/pillows and wearing our jammies and go see a Disney movie followed by a second one that most of us slept through. We had these grren cirlce pic things that were supposed to keep the mosquitoes away but they never worked. Some of my best childhood memories are playing on the swing set in our pjs and going to the drive in. As a teen we went once in a while and as a 20+ I went once w/my ex husband to a XXX show and was torn between laughing, being grossed out and studying for future reference :lmao: :3dglasses

We have one about 30 mins. from our house. We love it! Going to the drive-in is one of our favorite warm weather activities. We go a couple of hours early to get a spot up front, then we play ball, frisbee, etc., with the kids 'til the movie starts. DS and DD make new "friends" every time and they just have a blast.

Our drive-in does double features and is $7 for adults (kids 12 and under are free). We saw POTC2 and Cars on Friday. :cool1:

We have them around, but I prefer the comfort of the theater. (I actually MUCH prefer DVDs in our home theater room the most!!) I don't enjoy the bugs, hot car, or fogged up windows.

We just went two weeks ago- I hadn't been to a Drive-In since I was in gradeschool. But- there is one 10 minutes away, and we went to see "Over the Hedge"

We had a blast!!! $2 each for 2 movies!!!! FOUR dollars!

We plan to always buy concessions there, since that's how they stay in business, but their concessions were even cheap. We bought a GIGANTIC tub of popcorn, 2 44oz. sodas, laffy taffy, peanut m&m's, and nachos- all for about $11!!!!!

DH and I looked like the biggest pigs on the planet and came nowhere close to eating all that junk, but it was just amazing that we could go see 2 movies and have tons of snacks for about $16.

I used to love them when I was little. That's when they used to use the speakers you stuck in your car window.

Now it's AM radio sound and it's awful.

I don't go anymore for that reason.

I used to love going when I was younger. High school years and such. But the only that was down the street from me is now a fancy housing track, and the next nearest one turned into a Walmart. I have none other in the area that are close enough to drive to.

grinningghost:

you should come to ours, the first 6 rows or so have the original speakers still in working order!!!!! :sunny:

Ours doesn't have the speakers anymore, but they do broadcast on a local FM station, which sounds great.

I never knew they did that, so I must have sounded like a total goof raving about how cool it was to everyone afterwards...

The last time I went to a drive-in was a double feature showing E. T. and The Dark Crystal. We lost our drive-in back in the 80s. Across the street they built a multiplex and turned the old drive-in into town houses.

We love ours! They charge by the car (w/the coupon in the paper, $10/car) and show a double feature on each of the two screens. There is usually one adult (R rated movies) screen and one family (G and PGs).

We bring our truck, our camping chairs, pillows and blankets, a cooler and snacks to feed an army! We don't have bugs in our area so that's never a problem for us.
