I know with any successful weight loss you need to drink the proper amount of water each day, which really isn't the problem. The problem is at night, since starting WW almost 4 weeks ago I have been getting up 2-3 times a night to use the bathroom, so this is really effecting my sleep. I've tried not drinking anything after dinner, but I still have to get up and go. Do others have this problem too?

I've been following WW for about 6 weeks now. It's only been the last week that I haven't had to get up through the night. Maybe it just takes your body a little time to adjust to all that water?

Eating to lose weight also has a diuretic effect on your body, so that could part of the reason behind those nighttime trips to the bathroom.

This will probably slow down after a month or so. When I first started Atkins I had to get up 2-3 times a night but after about 6 weeks that stopped and I sleep the night through.

Stick with it, sweetie. It gets easier.

I am guilty of not drinking the proper amount of water per day. I still drink quite a bit, but in spurts (like alot at lunch or dinner but not much in between). I still have to get up to go to the bathroom once a night. I can't imagine getting up 2 to 3 times a night! I wish I had some advice for you, but I don't. Just hang in there. Hopefully your bladder will adjust and you'll be able to manage 1 trip a night in the future!!! :)

I have a water question...
Are you supposed to drink just plain water or can you get it from drinks mixed with water. I just love crystal light and drink nearly two quarts per day and about a quart of straight water every day. Should I cut back on the CL and drink more regular water?

Hi honeymo78! I have been told that you should only count 2 12-oz. servings of a non-caloric beverage towards your water total. I am a Crystal Lite lover too and have cut back to 2 18-oz. servings a day. I can't remember where I heard this, perhaps someone else can comment.

Thanks everyone!

I am not sure about CL, but I know that tea, coffee and soda are not part of water intake, and do not count. I drink 90+ ounces of water a day.

I drink tons of water a day and love it! Unfortunately I'm one of those that goes to the bathroom about two or three times after I go to bed, before I go to sleep then I actually wake up in the middle of the night 2 or more times during the night to go to the bathroom. I've been like this for years! Sometimes it bothers me but half the time I think I sleepwalk to the bathroom! LOL!

I know on WW they say we should drink 6 - 8 oz. glasses of water daily. They will let us count 3 of the 6 with Crystal Light, oj, non-caffienated soda, etc.

I guess it depends on the plan you are following and imo the "purpose" of you drinking the water. If you are just trying to get your fluid intake up to the recommended then most non-cafffinated beverages can count. De-caf and herbal teas, CL, non-caffinated diet sodas, etc all are mostly water. So they would count. If you are drinking to "flush out" your system then only pure water would count.

Of course this is only my opinion but is based on research for website and articles. For me I try to drink about 50/50 but I am usually more close to 75% other beverages and 25% pure water.

I just posted this in the other "water" thread: There is currently no recommendation about water consumption that is backed up by medical research. All recommendations thus-far could be tracked back to advertising by bottled water companies. Various research organizations are currently undertaking the first studies related to water consumption. Their results should be released within a year or so.

What we do know is that some hydration is necessary, that water content of food "counts," that caffeine depresses the hydration effect of the liquid it is delivered in (such as coffee) but only moderately, and that there is such thing as drinking "too much water," but the amount is rather high, and the reason why it is "too much" has to do with water toxicity.

This is exactly the kind of misinformation that prompted recent efforts to locate the source of such information and the realization that no such scientific studies have ever been published.

The reality is that water is water, regardless of whether it has sugar or artificial sweetener in it, and regardless of whether it is suspended inside foodstuffs. There may be reasons to cut consumption of caffeine, sugar and even artificial sweeteners that have nothing to do with water, and indeed reason to believe that caffeine, at least, has some small negative impact on hydration itself, but there is no scientific research showing that the presence of these things in a drink makes the water in the drink "not count."
