Drew and Ashley's Escape Vow Renewal: Having to change plans! Would appreciate input!

I've been out of the loop from some of the newer PJs... but I just got to reading, and I love your story. I'm sorry you've had so many health/pain issues. The terrace will be beautiful!! I hope you get a 1BR villa at WL (maybe look into renting points) and enjoy a fabulous stay in a great room!!

We're (as of right now--I'm a resort changer :sad2:) staying at the WL-CL in April :) We've only ever been over there for lunch, and thought it was great!

Great find on the dress!! How lucky!! I look forward to reading more this year!!

This paragraph brought me to tears. You know from my PJ that I've a number of health issues as well, and so much of what you wrote here sums up how I feel about Doug. Oh, goodness, I need a tissue. :goodvibes How are you doing now?

By the way, I love that you mentioned his beard in your 'meeting' story. Very adorable!

I definitely feel that working through health issues makes the marriage stronger. I am doing much better since the surgery, the most challenging part is just being patient with my body while it heals.

I do love his beard

I love hearing good reviews on the terrace! I have only found a couple of older trip reports from WL brides. I was a bit worried by the lack of popularity of this location, but I suppose it's due to the small number of guests allowed.

We are definitely going to look into renting points, I haven't tried using the boards for renting points, but might give it a try for our trip. I hope you write a trip report for your April trip. I understand about the resort changing thing, I am terrible about changing my ADRs.

I look forward to seeing all of your plans unfold. A person I worked with when I was doing my bachelor's degree had been married at the terrace at Wilderness Lodge too. It is a beautiful location and I love your plans with the rustic touches. The monogram is really great too and will look nice on everything you put together. You will love Randy for your pictures. He did our wedding and did pictures with him on our anniversary last year too.

It was touching to read everything that you and DH have been through together. My husband and I dated for 8 years before our engagement, but once we got engaged we had a lot of tragedies and I can relate to everything you have gone through while not exactly the same. I had a major car accident and several months of recovery in the middle of our 1 year engagement (still deal with some residual issues over 4 years later with my back and shoulder) and DH's dad died just three months before our wedding.

Looking forward to reading about your happy ending with your vow renewal :bride:

I'm sorry to hear you're still having back and shoulder problems from your car accident. To go through a car accident and a loss of a family member during an engagement must have been difficult.

Your wedding photos are lovely, and it looks like it was such a beautiful day.

Thank you for reading along and sharing with me. I'm usually pretty shy about sharing my physical issues with others, but it's been encouraging to have others share how they can relate.

Congratulations on your upcoming vow renewal. I llok forward to seeing all your plans unfold...and photos of Sunrise Terrace :)

I don't know how I've missed your PJ but I just read through it. What a sweet love story :) My H & I both moved from MA to FL within weeks of each other and met down here in FL, isn't it funny how things like that work out?

Your dress is beautiful! How great that you got such a deal on it.

Sunrise terrace is the most beautiful location, I can't wait to see your pictures!

My H and I had a similar elopement. It was May in FL and so, so hot. I'm so happy you are getting your dream vow renewal and that you are recovering from your surgery. What a nice way to celebrate!

Thank you! It's definitely funny how things work out that way. As my former roommate would say "When it's odd, it's God." Summers in the South are kind of miserable, that's probably the one thing I don't miss about TN.

So my first rant in my planning journal, I will try to keep it brief. Work has been dreadful lately. I have been in retail management for the past 6 years for the same company, and due to my condition I just can't do it anymore. I think sometimes when you have surgery it's thought that you're going to be "fixed." As great as this would have been my body hasn't fully recovered, and my sciatic nerve and muscles are going to take awhile to heal. I had to demote, and am using this as an opportunity to enroll in school, as I had planned before all of this started to happen. The demoting hasn't been the worst part, now they are barely giving me any hours. What scares me the most is the idea of losing my health insurance due to my lack of hours :scared1: For someone that has much more recovering to do this is so scary, plus my insurance covers DH. I am going to speak with my school about their student health insurance coverage as a safety net, but I know the coverage won't be near what my work's health insurance provides.

"Reception" Plans
After the whole work situation I was not wanting to think about wedding planning, but this morning I spent a few minutes on the Disney Wedding Blog and it really turned things around for me. :cloud9: I think our vow renewal will definitely be on a tight budget due to my loss of income, but we're pretty frugal people and I kind of see this as a fun challenge now.

Originally I had planned our ceremony being at 3:00 PM at Sunrise Terrace followed by cocktails at Territory Lounge, dinner at Artist Point, and a fireworks cruise on the Grand Yacht. This idea is now out, cost isn't even the main factor in this decision. When I really thought about our guests and what they would enjoy this scenario just didn't seem to fit. Two of our eight guests are little guys, and I know if I were a kiddo visiting WDW for the first time having to go to a wedding and a nice dinner would be borderline cruelty. I also have a pretty nutty FIL coming as well, and I just never know what's going to come out of his mouth ;) So I am also being considerate of the patrons of Artist Point this evening.

Our new plan is to have our ceremony in the morning and then we will serve our guests brunch and head into the parks together. I was really inspired by Michelle + Russell's video and budget spotlight. Our videography will be through DH's best friend, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate our family and friends coming together. I know I won't be able to wear my gown into the parks, but I will wear a little white dress, and DH can wear wear whatever he wants.

For our rehearsal dinner and our brunch we are planning on renting a villa through David's Vacation Club Rentals, and will bring in catering from outside. From what I am calculating, our rehearsal dinner will be about $200 and our brunch $100, but these will increase when we add beverages, tax, and service fees. Also I am planning to order DH a grooms cake, most likely from It's Tasty Too. At this point I had looked into a swalphin ceremony, but DH loves the terrace. We thought AKV would be a great place to rent a villa, but only if we can ensure a Savannah view.

Our other location we are considering is OKW, we love OKW and the living room and kitchen space offers more seating. We will just have to wait and see what's available.

If DH gets a great job offer after his training program, then we might just look into a Grand Villa, until then I am really excited about our new plan. Our guests will be more likely to enjoy their time, and we want them to understand why we love WDW so much. :yay: I plan to set up some games and such in the bedroom area for the little guys.

Oh here is a picture of the groom's cake I am wanting to order. DH loves to collect vinyl, and I think he would LOVE this

I will post our estimated budget soon :thumbsup2

The new plans sound great! They seem much... cozier and I think your family members will very much enjoy themselves.

And that's poopy about your hours and the health insurance! Gotta love the joys of working in retail :rolleyes1 I hope that the student one has somewhat decent coverage! (There really needs to be a smiley that's crossing its' fingers! :goodvibes)

Somehow I missed this so far- I'm losing my mind! Congrats on your VR! I love the theming you are going with and the new changes :goodvibes
The rooms at OKW are considerably bigger than the VWL rooms if you are comparing, for some reason all the DVC rooms at WL are small (smaller than the other DVC resorts from my experience), but the theming is very rustic, outdoors-y and pretty :) I think 8 people in any 1-bedroom would be enough room though!

I am getting lunch catered for my girls the day of the wedding from Earl of Sandwich in downtown disney- the prices are very reasonable and the menu is delish, just a thought!

That groom's cake is awesome!! You got a great deal on your already altered and bustled dress- :yay:

There does need to be a fingers crossed smiley, especially for the wedding board. I was on the insurance website today, and my current PCP is in their network, so that's a relief.

The rooms at OKW did seem bigger on allears.net, too bad they kind of have a Golden Girls vibe, but that's okay. WL would be perfect due to location, but the seating area just seemed so tiny for 8 people. Mmm... I love the idea of Earl of Sandwich. We're looking into catering from Whole Foods, and I found a company in the area that will deliver from Whole Foods to the resort for a nominal fee. Earl of Sandwich would be really convenient as well, we might have to do some "research" during our vacation in May. popcorn::

I'm glad our new plan doesn't seem absurd, we know everyone is going to have park tickets so it just seemed like a good idea. I joked with Drew I was going to make him run into the park and get us fastpasses to Splash Mountain before the ceremony. This is the first time we're going to see his parents and best friends in over a year, and we wanted to make it kind of a family reunion experience where we happened to renew our vows while everyone is there.:grouphug:

 Now that you say that- the Golden Girls vibe does come to mind. It's supposed to be laid back like (obviously) Key West. lol OKW has the largest DVC rooms since it was the original. SSR is pretty close in comparison. We stayed in a 1BR villa at BLT and that might be an option for you too if you wanted, everyone could ride the boat over from the ceremony.

Earl of Sandwich will deliver to Disney property free of charge! ;) My wedding is 5/5 so I'll make sure to report back on this!

That definitely sounds so fun going into the parks with everyone, and if they all haven't been in awhile I'm sure they will love going with you! We have a bunch of family coming who see each other all the time, but it will still be fun to experience the parks together!! We are organizing a time to go in with whoever wants to come with us and can't wait to see everyone's faces doing all the stuff we love so much! :goodvibes

I love the idea of BLT! That would be perfect due to it's proximity to WL and MK, and it being sans Golden Girls vibe. Thank you so much!

Jumping to say thanks to my wedding twin for the info about Earl of Sandwich. I had no idea they delivered to Disney hotels for free. You totally solved my breakfast dilemma. :woohoo:

Hi Ashley!!! :)

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. :) I've been meaning to get to your PTR, but I just haven't had the time to sit down...

I've read through all of your plans so far, and I love everything you have planned out. I think that Disney weddings are sooo romantic.

Your dress is fabulous - very classy.

I just love your monogram too - how adorable to have a hidden Mickey in it.

And I just have to say, I love how you met and how Drew took such good care of you... It's just so sweet. :)

I can't wait to hear about the rest of your plans!

D~

NP! We really like the modern vibe there and I think the space was pretty big-we also had a double balcony that had a lot of room for people to look out and give some extra space. We actually somehow got a room on the top floor, so we had all day-every day acces to the lounge/bar at the top of BLT, which was awesome (and people think you're super cool when you have to insert your key in the elevator every time... ahaha). Might be worth a request for the top floor! ;) I know I took a lot of pictures in there, I'll try to find them to post. I'm also not sure if it was just our room or not, but we had two full bathrooms which was a nice added bonus!

Thanks for visiting my vow renewal PJ, D. Thank you for your kind words. I just love your PTR, and you're definitely my inspiration to tackle my sewing phobia. I am going to attempt to make a garter and possibly a bridal cape for my vow renewal.

So sorry to hear about your heath problems! I hope things improve!

Thank you for your well wishes. I am feeling better everyday :)

I can't wait to see pictures. It seems to be a great option.

I don't really have any wedding updates, being we are over 10 months out. I started school today, and I should be done in 9 months. I am thankful my injury has a few silver linings, such as meeting Drew and finally getting back to school. I just adore accounting, there is something about numbers and excel that I find fun. :yay:

We ended up celebrating Valentines Day on Sunday. I surprised Drew when he returned from walking our dog with an UP themed lunch. I served nathan's hot dogs and grape soda, decorated with balloons, and we of course watched the movie. Our girls joined us, Katy (the black one) reminds me of Alpha Dog and Brooke reminds me of Doug.

CUTE!! This is so stinkin adorable, I'm really jealous I didn't think of it first! :rotfl:

Catching up on all of your planning and so excited for you two! Happy Valentines!

The inspiration video from the Disney Wedding blog was great. It shows that you don't have to go overboard when it comes to planning your special day. I think the new plans sound like a lot of fun. I know there were a lot of things that we ended up cutting out because of budget and in the end we never noticed those things being missing. Spending time with our family and friends was the best part of the day/week.

The UP V-day lunch was super cute. I have a friend who did an UP themed 1st b-day party for her son and it was so neat to see the creative ideas that can stem from that movie. :dogdance: The pictures of your girls checking everything out are cute too. Our cat's name is Katey (with an "e" added) too.

What a cute idea! Your dogs are adorable too. Good luck with school :)
