I am planning on taking a seven day cruise. Has anyone ever seen a gentleman wear Army Dress Blues or another branches military dress uniform. I have one, I don't have Mess Blues, but I thought with a cumberbund and bowtie it would suffice for a Tux.

I think it would look great, but I love a man in uniform.;)

My husband is military and although I can't convince him to wear his dress uniform on formal night (trust me, I've tried!) I say go for it! I'm sure everyone would love to see a man in uniform :)

Iron...

I work for the fire department here on HHI. I was always proud of them...looking so spiffy and neat, but, especially since 9-11,
nothing makes me any more proud to see my guys in their dress
uniforms.

I think everyone on board would be proud to see you in your
dress uniform....wear it!!!!!!!

I seen this question asked before and the response hasbeen overwhelming in favor of wearing the dress uniform...

Go for it .....

This question comes up occasionally. The response is always an enthusiastic "yes", although it always seems to be a lot of women saying this.

Yoo Hoo! Yes, go for it. Okay, I AM a woman and love a man in uniform, but DH also agrees. ;)

In all seriousness, I would personally want to salute anyone who has (or is) put their life on the line for our great country. By all means, proudly wear your uniform.

On a previous cruise, there was an extremely handsome Marine who wore his dress uniform on both formal and semiformal nights. His wife and daughter seemed to approve--so did everyone else!

Please feel free to wear your uniform. We all appreciate your service to our country.

Ok, an independant comment from a very straight male, I think being in dress uniform would generate a great deal more respect than even the best tux. And I'm not military connected either. Go for it! :D

I appreciate the input. The question that I will inquire within my command is about protocol. The issue I had was Dress Blues versus Mess Blues. They are both very impressive. I have one and not the other. For those of you who don't understand the difference here it is. The Dress Blues jacket is similiar to the Army Green. The Mess jacket is cut just at the waist. For those of you have seen John Wayne Westerns I believe they wore them at a ball in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" with Henry Fonda. I hope that those who are in the military and are planning on going a cruise take all these wonderful messages and wear theirs.

Ironmike,

I'm "4nana's" son, and I serve with you. I understand your question to be a 2-part question. 1) Yes, the Dress Blue is appropriate (w/ bowtie) for formal military & civilian events in lieu of a tux or Mess Dress. 2) If you are asking whether a cumberbund can be worn with the Dress Blue -- no, the jacket is worn buttoned-up, and your cumberbund would not be visible.

Please be sure & see your S-2 for a security brief since you're leaving the country (this is required). He/she may advise leaving the uniform at home for your safety.

Whatever the case, have fun & represent us well -- with or without the uniform.

I am retired Air Force. I definitely feel that the dress uniform is appropriate attire for formal night.

Dress Blues would be fine. It represents the best in our country and our fine citizens. In wearing them you represent yourself, your family, your branch of service, and all of us old veterans who have gone before. Wear it with pride!! Thank you for your service to our nation and continuing the long line of freedom for our nation and fellow citizens. Mike

I would have to agree with 4Nana's son about checking into security first. My husband doesn't bring his dress uniform for formal nights for that reason. I think they are told not to "advertise" that they are military when they are out of the country for security reasons. It is sad that things have come to that!

My son is taking leave from the Navy to give away his old Mom when I get married in January. He's even joining us on our honeymoon cruise with his brothers and sisters. I'm so pleased since he'll just be coming off the USS Normandy, and I know he'll be sick of the ocean!

I've asked him to wear his dress uniform. He talked to some guys on ship, and was told that they request you not to wear your uniform at private events out of the country right now. He's going to check further, but it makes sense. Not for a Disney cruise maybe, but you know what I mean.

In uniform or out, he's the apple of my eye and I'm SO proud of him!

Definitely security first but if your command isn't restricting it, I say go for it! Nothing like a man in uniform! And thank you.

Please go for it if you are allowed. Speaking as the daughter-in-law of a retired Naval officer, it would bring tears to my eyes to see a gentleman dressed in the uniform of our country in these troubled times.
