Dream Month in review *Neutral Discussion about Dreams, Yavn, State of VMK*

Really I see this as no different than the million dreams in the real parks. You only win there if you are in the right place at the right time. Grant it I have noticed way more stuff given out in Fantasy land than other places but you still have to be in the parks and riding rides or doing what ever thier random computer says to get picked. The stay at the Castle or Disney hotel is given to one person per day, thats it!! The person who is on the same ride with the winner didnt get anything just the person who wins. I think VMK dreams promotion is run the same as the parks.

DO I like it? no way!! I did win some ears and I wont ever complain about that. They said go about your VMK day like normal. I can say I have never once sat in a room all day not talking to hope they come before dreams month. I normally play games and talk to people. As far as i know not one person has had a pop up message as they exit pirates game or mansion game that you randomly win dream ears or anything like that so in that aspect I cant play my normal game if I hope to win a castle room or help my friends win dream ears.

Im of the school VMK may sell or something like that. They are putting ducks in order to pull out and since it may bring them in a pretty penny they are tying to appease us to keep the game profitable to sell. They are removing Disney names to make sure they retain control on that aspect once it sells with copyright laws. I wonder if it will sell and be pay to play? Probably in my opinion.

I would tend to believe that Yavn has good intentions, but just not enough hours in the day.

As witnessed in the early days, he attempted to answer questions on this board and others, but soon had to stop, because of time constraints, basically. Just as one of my favorite authors used to say (before he passed away last week) -- would you rather he spent his time answering our endless stream of questions, or instead, spend those precious minutes working hard on the project at hand, trying to get it finished and out for us to enjoy?

With Halloween swiftly coming upon us, followed closely by Christmas, and let's not forget, the much anticipated trading card game -- please, just imagine how busy the man must be. Look at all those items they have been creating, unbeknownst to us! I'm sure as soon as he has a spare moment to breathe, and something significant to announce, another Yavn Speaks will appear Did anyone else happen to notice one of the trading card game prizes is a YAVN PIN, btw? I highly doubt it would be there if he is no longer affiliated with VMK.

Lastly, Yavn periodically clears out his friends' list, so that's nothing new. I'm assuming that's to give new folks a chance to become acquainted with him, without the same old followers filling up any room he is in within mere moments of his arrival.

As for Dreams month and the difficulty of obtaining the coveted prizes - it's the same old story every time VMK introduces something "rare", so why rehash it again? You're either in favor of that concept, or you're not.

I've never had the pleasure of receiving a real-life Dream in the parks, but I sure don't let it spoil my vacation. I don't have those feelings of entitlement that seem to be so pervasive nowadays. I play VMK for the enjoyment, and if I win a Dream, that's just icing on the cake. My kids are taught to do their best and appreciate what they have, not spend their time being angry and jealous of what they don't. That's life... better to teach them young.

(And yes, I have one pair of Dream ears. I don't have to time spend chasing Hosts either, so I would sign in and park my character in a public room, hoping to get lucky. I finally did. Thank you to whichever Host granted my Dream!)

I do think Yavn is/did move on. I dont think fired, and I think perhaps even working still with Disney. I know he had some involvement in the spaceship earth exit area for instance. I think he just may have moved to a different post/role. Who knows.

What makes the game fun is the VMKers, not the game itself. So whenever a month doesnt go well, I think it's all in the perception of the players.

Since it is a game, there are winners and losers, but since the game is continuous, each day who wins and who loses is different. 1 week left, and it doesnt seem in the cards for a feather headed, blue HKDL wearing, blue jean adorning, green flips boy to have a dream room. My thoughts on that? OK. whats in store for me next month @_@

The other thing that is entirely possible is we had heard a couple months ago BIG changes were coming. Well there is no way we cant be sure thats why the sort of "freeze" on things going on in VMK. Maybe they have a sort of "code freeze" so they can port over to this new build.

I cant back this part up with facts, but I had heard the VMK pin sets were the fastest selling pins Disney ever released. That has got to have gotten their attention!

I dont see the game going anywhere and yes I could be totally wrong. But VMK has changed so much so fast I just dont see these last couple of months different because of that. This game is not the game we all got into in May of 05. The game has changed over several times. Why should the last couple months be any different.

A point of view from a "somewhat" newbie.

I started in June on VMK. I pretty much knew no one during June, July and August. When I look at my friend's list now, it has many many people that I actually visit on vmk and chat with. Not just people who add you for the heck of adding you just to invite you to some "cute or boot" game (which is not my thing anyway!). hehe. Yes, I have won dream items twice, but I am not as excited about those items and I am about having some fun buddies in the game.

I do think it would be nice if VMK has some special pin (not given out yet) that everyone who logged into vmk this month receives on the last day. That would be a nice touch, so everyone at least gets something.

Since I am not an old timer on here, I can't really comment about the old days of vmk. When I look at vmk history, the past few months do seem slim in comparison. As many of you said, Halloween month will be the litmus test.
And if VMK does something nice in honor of EPCOT's "be day", then that will be an even bigger sign to me. hehe

Heh. I don't see this Sleeping Beauty fan having a dream room, either. That's why a lot of us hoped we'd be either able to buy it later or play for it on a quest. I actually think having the dream items linked to the Sword Magic pins would have been very cool, too.

But when I think about how awful certain aspects of this month have been, I am reminded about how previous contests and events have been run, almost from the beginning. And I'm sure most people can remember how less than stellar we thought of the VMK Parade, the first Halloween "maze" event, and the Everest event prize distribution.

But, beyond those misses, there have been plenty of "hits". I was thrilled with the introduction of my credit earning staple, the Haunted Mansion game, even with the lag and crashing. I enjoyed all the "eye candy" we got, with pin sets, costumes, and furniture.

For every frustration the game has given us, it has been the people I've met who have kept me coming back.

Hosts have already said that Dreams items will not be out again. Which I can understand since the "Year of a Million Dreams" is just about over.

Actually it goes on for another year. Disney extended it and made the announcement about a couple of months ago.

I agree with all perspectives I have read about this month. I will say that I was not a fan of this month at all. The biggest difference between the real parks and on vmk is at the parks you had no idea what time any rewards were being passed out. I had hoped that vmk would be the same way. By giving the times in which awards were being given ppl went to there respective public rooms and go afk. (guilty as charged) If I had no idea when the times were I would of probably played my normal way. (mini games deluxe)
Now during this month they have switched up a bit which was a fantastic change. By allowing us to gift ears I can maintain a list of my friends that have not received them so I can gift. (ok if I see a host ) And I have heard of hosts popping around after hours. Once again very cool and unexpected.
So I feel the hosts have listened to our complaints and have done everything they can do to make this month as good as they could. For that I thank them so very much.
As I mentioned in the first paragraph I am guilty of going afk in a room and probably will continue to do so to get these illusive dream items until the end of the month. And OMG I am going to be busy playing mini-games for Halloween! Woot!!

Okay I have heard and Listened and btw I am pretty new here but have been on VMK for almost a year now And am Friends with Timonrn and Melp.

I so understand everyone's pro's and con's about this month. I have spent many the hours ( I am an Adult Mother of three) Hoping and waiting to just get a pair of ears ( which has not happened yet ) I saw my first host last week in Snow White's Forest And me and another friend asked for ears we got pins. Now Albeit I am thankful for something but I do not trade pins and they are not tradeable anyways so to me it is a usless gift. The only pins I wear are my MAgic ones. All I wanted or really cared about was getting a pair of ears and now i find out some ppl have 6 pairs!!! OMG what for!! I really agree with whoever said the ears should have been a host room prize. And I am sorry to say this and hope no one hates me. But I think it is totally unfair for those ppl who win rooms when AFK!!! My Feelings are if you are AFK then you lose! Give those a chance who are taking the time to be there. Yes I understand it is a game and I really am not angry or anything just think there would have been alot less problems with vmk also if so many were not on and afk. If you do not have time to play then log off. so the game will move better. Just my thoughts. Take them or leave them.

I'll leave them. I don't think everybody has the same sense of entitlement about winning/not winning.

A lot of us have lives and do not live on the PC, whille others spend their ever waking moments glued to the all mighty HP (or Apple, Dell, IBM, etc).

If somebody is on waiting for a host traveling from room to room for hours and days on end and at some point the hunger pangs hit, the bladder gets full or their favorite sitcom is on, they have done their due dilligence to win just like the same people who have won 5 or 10 times in a matter of a week. If they want to go afk, let them. Who is anybody else to say who should get dreams and who should not?

I don't know why all of you people get so worked up over virtual stuff that is worth zero, zip, zlich, nothing!!!!! If VMK closes, it is all 100% compeltely worthless. Honestly, it is pretty worthless now.

I won 2 pairs of ears and a dream room. I do not wear the ears right now bc there are too many kiddos and people who do not feel entitled that do not have them. I rarely go in the room unless somebody wants to see it for the same reason. I am grateful that I have won all 3 items, but if I didn't I would not pout about it, I would still just be without.

I like the game, it is fun. It is something I can do with my sister and my kid, but if I do not log on for two weeks, so what. There are items I am disappointed that I cannot have, (Haunted Mansion room & Minnie hat) but certainly nothing that I feel entitled to. I also would never wish that anybody in VMK cannot have something because they do not deserve a virtual item.

I don't play VMK for virtual gain, but instead to chat with people in the game and play online with people I care about. I am thankful for the items that have been gifted to me, my daughter and sister (shout out to Mal2, Aengus, delicious, bevgray, Berry, SlavicPride, Amber and a handful of of others that did it privately) but I certainly do not feel entitled to any of it and I would not be pouting if those items were in somebody else's possesion but mine. As a matter of fact, most items that have been gifted to me are in my kid's inventory, not mine.

What I was trying to say was ppl who are afk all the time clog up the game making it more difficult for some of who want to play. when I can play which is usually after my children have gone to bed. Or taking a nap. I do not sit there for hours on end. waiting for a virtual item that i may or may not get. I would love a pair of Blue Ears and wether i get them or not has nothing to do with this. There were over 8,000 ppl on last week and probably 80% of them afk when the whole vmk shut down and went into disarray. This is what I am meaning by afk ppl. If you have been there and run for a potty break or to eat that is one thing but to turn it on and totally leave come on!

At any rate. I wasn't on long tonight And got to see Phinny two times. 1 time I got a red tent hmmm.. not sure what that is lol i did not even go look at it. And the 2nd time my friend lady sent me a message and said come quick so i did it was phinny again in small world imports handing out a room and then she give whole room ears! So there I am happy and done i do not care if i get any more I got my ears thanks to Lady watching out for me.

And Like I said i wasn't mad or anything just stating a point. I know it is virtual and if vmk were to disappear ( knock on wood ) I would lose all the items never to be seen again. I Love being on vmk with my Disney Friends we have alot of fun on there.

I understand your point. I know people have left their characters on for the entire day knowing they would not be on for the event. One day, I saw a girl in the same spot from right after VMK opened until closing. I guess if everyone thought they were worthless and plain old pixels, they wouldn't be trying so hard to get them.

While I do see where you are coming from, I would add - we all value different things in life. Some people go for the material (virtual or real) and count their possessions while others dig much deeper than the surface.

If VMK shut down tomorrow or even the end of the year, many would be so ticked for the countless hours they spent looking for Dreams items. Just a thought.

I think I see where you are both coming from.

One of my most prized possessions in VMK is actually a regular pair of blue cargo shorts.

It isn't worth anything, but the fact that they were given to me by my first friend on VMK made them extra special. I wear these shorts all the time.

I haven't spoken to that person in almost 2 years. Their account was deleted.

So I completely understand the whole value debate.

If VMK ends today, tomorrow, or 3 years from now, we will still have the memories of our wonderful game and I'm sure many of the friendships made on VMK will continue much, much longer.

I must say, I didn't like the past month.
(and I have won the room, three pairs of ears, and the logo pin)
they made it much too hard to get the items (which are rather nice i must admit)I was lucky to have time this month to play as much as i did, had this been the other end of the year i would have been studying the entire time.
If one has to buy items, its a lot easier, build up credits when you have time, then log on and buy the items and log out again (instead of "room stocking")
i was very disappointed at the lack of pins, dreams furniture and anything to do with the month at all
the tiki table should not have been released so late, tiki month is when vmk should release tiki items (not in dream month )
well its almost halloween, and lets hope theres lots of new stuff to spend our credit overflow on
