Dream CAME true! June 21-26, 2011 TR w/LOTS of pics! Update 8/1 Day 6, Part 4

Yup we were definitely one of 'those couples' who were completely decked out... full costumes and hats  - we'd been to Disney World in October and saw what great costumes people had for Halloween, so we assumed Pirate night on the cruise would be the same? ... you can guess how surprised we were when we got up to Deck 11 for the show and saw only about 1 in 10 people were dressed up! :rotfl: I'll post photos in my TR, should get to that night soon :thumbsup2

Emma princess: x

Really?! That's all you saw? On our way to dinner that night, it felt like everyone I passed was dressed up one way or another! I'm sure you looked fantastic either way :)

Great update! Sorry the food didn't taste that great, but it looks awesome! We are getting really excited for our cruise!

I wasn't too bummed about the food, considering I wasn't really 'paying' for it. I knew I had the option that evening of getting other food to eat! :cool1:

Excellent updates and photos!!! :)

Your Western Caribbean itinerary for December looks great! You are going to a few beautiful places, and you get to enjoy a couple of days at sea! Cozumel is great by the way! :thumbsup2

You guys looked adorable on Pirate Night! Sorry you didn't enjoy your dinner so much, but it looks like the desserts were the star of that meal for sure! LOL, sometimes I choose a restaurant just based on desserts...I see a unique one on the menu and I just have to go there and try it! ;)

I must say...your review is getting me more excited for Saturday's cruise! Unfortunately, DS4 has a sinus infection ...but it just started, I took him to the doctor today and she put him on Zithromax...he will be finished with it Friday, the day before we leave. She gave me a prescription for DS6 just in case, and I will bring it with us, but hopefully he will not need it. She said that if he is sick and we have to bring him to the ship's doctor, we could just let them know we already have the medication so we don't have to wait for it there, and hope that they have it. She said that DS4 should be fine by tomorrow night. Thank goodness! I was so nervous. :scared1:

Anyway, I enjoyed everything you updated and all the pics! :goodvibes

Oh gosh! How is your son feeling today?! I really hope your other son won't be sick before you guys leave. :sad2:

I love reading your trip report and seeing all of the pictures! It's definately one of the best ones I have read! Your dress for pirate night was adorable! I think I am going to try to find something like for our cruise in oct. Can't wait for the rest of your report!

Aww thank you so much! :worship: I got my dress at Forever 21 for like 18 bucks!!

Another great update. I kind of liked the Pirate menu..the crab cake was good and I also got the seafood pasta dish and my scallops were very sweet and tender..the shrimp in it were just ok and the sauce and pasta were odd LOL. We had a lot of fun with our table mates that nite we sat with 2 other couples around our ages and got a kick out the whole pirate thing. Your dress was adorable:goodvibes

I'm REALLY looking forward to this next cruise for that reason! I want to meet people!

Yesterday, DH switched our Bahamian cruise over to the 7 night Western Caribbean cruise.

While browsing around the website, we noticed that there was a 7 night Mexican Riviera cruise leaving, I believe either the same day or next day, out of LOS ANGELES. Which means we would not have to pay for airfare and could save us about $800 in airfare. The cost of the M.R. cruise is $200 less than the W.C. cruise.

We checked out the excursions for the M.R. cruise, and there were some great excursions!

Here's the other dilemma. The W.C. cruise leaves port on Saturday, Dec 10. DH's last day of school is Friday, Dec 9 at 1:00pm. We would have to take a red-eye (which is fine with us) to arrive in Orlando the next morning at 6:30am. HERE'S WHERE MY WORRY WART POPS OUT: I'm afraid of any flight delays, causing us to miss our cruise. I've only flown one time during the Winter to Orlando, and we didn't have any flight issues whatsoever, flying in to MCO or flying out of MCO.

M.R. Itinerary W.C. Itinerary
Day 1 - Los Angeles Day 1 - Port Canaveral
Day 2 - At Sea Day 2 - Key West
Day 3 - At Sea Day 3 - At Sea
Day 4 - Puerto Vallarta Day 4 - Grand Cayman
Day 5 - Cabo San Lucas Day 5 - Cozumel
Day 6 - Cabo San Lucas Day 6 - At Sea
Day 7 - At Sea Day 7 - Castaway Cay
Day 8 - Los Angeles Day 8 - Port Canaveral

I'm trying to weigh out everything..

Here are the itineraries of the two. I like that there are 3 days At Sea for the M.R., but there are some great ports out of the W.C. We've never been to Mexico before.

Basically we would save $1000 if we did the M.R cruise, but we're not sure if we should just say, screw it let's do the W.C.

What would you guys do in our situation, knowing all the information? Also is one ship better than the other? I believe Magic is W.C. and Wonder is M.R.

Sorry if I keep jumping all over the place..I basically just wrote as I was thinking, and my thinking can be very scrambled! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: For some reason Bonnie, I knew you knew what it was going to be about! And I thought Alison might have had an inkling too, since you guys have been there basically from the beginning :goodvibes

So the 7 night Western Caribbean will be on the Magic and the itinerary looks like this:

Day 1 - Port Canaveral
Day 2 - Key West
Day 3 - At Sea
Day 4 - Grand Cayman
Day 5 - Cozumel
Day 6 - At Sea
Day 7 - Castaway Cay
Day 8 - Port Canaveral

Actually you caught me totally by surprise. You made a comment (on your PTR, I think) which made me think you weren't quite ready yet. I think that it's great you are "planning" this, and you'll have a nice trip. My sister was "surprised" by all three of her kids, and that's indicative of how their lives have gone. I'm sure you'll have many happy years with your kids and they will end up loving Disney as much as you two! The next step....DVC! :rotfl2:

I love this itinerary, I've wanted to do a Western Caribbean Cruise since we took our first DVC vacation. We were going to trade out our points to do this itinerary, until we found out the point charts were per person, not per stateroom! :scared1:

Here is another Lesha Tip! To the ladies that have long hair, wrap it up in a bun, and put a towel over your head. Not kidding.

Anyways, DH bought some ‘cigars’ and we walked around a few blocks and ended up finding the Tortuga Rum Cake store. I’ve heard about these magnificent little cakes before and I was dying to try some! Luckily, they gave out samples and I was HOOKED! So I bought a 6 pack for $30! And boy, those things are STRONG! I believe someone could get a definite buzz off those little guys for sure! :cool1:

OMG you're not kidding! When I went on my first cruise, it was before the DCL, we did 4 nights at the GF and 3 nights on the Big Red Boat. We stopped in Port Lucaya and Paradise Island. It was the worst ship ever, and I'm surprise I ever wanted to go on another cruise after that. However when we got to Port Lucaya, I DID want to get my hair braided. Somehow some lady convinced me to choose her, but I guess they had to be licensed or something. She took me to this strip of grass off the main parkway and started to braid my hair. After one or two braids, she starts shrieking, "Oh my God! No, no, no........I'm, I'm, Aye just peed my pants."

I looked over at her and she wasn't kidding! :scared1: I was just about to get up and leave when a policeman came along (evidently he sort of knew her) and told her that she knew better than this (the braiding part) and to run along. My stupid ex-husband had run off somewhere and had left me alone with this woman, so here I was alone in a strange place scared to death! At least I didn't have to pay for it! :rotfl2: That was almost 20 years ago, so I can laugh about it now.

Those Rum cakes sound awesome! I think I'm going to want to make a rum cake once all the dust settles around here!

IMG_2685.jpg

I love this one! Dr. Evil meets Jack Sparrow! :rotfl2:

I would have starved that night, I can't stand coconut and it looked like half the dishes were made with it. You're right though, there are so many other options for food, so you won't starve! You will love Palo, I don't remember much about it other than it was one of our favorite restaurants we ate an on the Wonder!

Sorry the trip is coming to an end, but looking forward to hearing about your last day! And don't forget to tell us about that trip to New England too!

What would you guys do in our situation, knowing all the information? Also is one ship better than the other? I believe Magic is W.C. and Wonder is M.R.

If you went on the Mexican Riviera Cruise I would be soooooo jealous, but then I would also get to hear all about it and be able to plan my trip. I hope that we can take a trip on the Wonder in the next couple years, hopefully sooner rather than later.

If it were me, I would do the MR for the simple reason you stated with the plane flight and the fact that you would have to take a Red Eye. I like to make sure that my vacations start out relaxed and a Red Eye would not be that! If the cruise out of Los Angeles leaves a day later then you can have a day off after school gets out to relax and get ready for the trip.

I've only been on the Wonder, but the Wonder & Magic were both built at the same time. They share many of the same features so the ships are almost identical. The three days at sea might give you more time to work on that souvenir! :rotfl2:

I would do the MR also. We fly in the winter and been fortunate to not have issues, but I would not chance that. You never know where your red eye is coming from and if it's on the east or north where there could be storms, you could be affected.

OMGOSH!!! :rotfl2::rotfl: I can't BELIEVE that even happened to you! That's something you'll remember for the rest of your life! Did you end up keeping the 2 braids in?! :lmao:

The sad thing about that picture of DH, is that his pinky is stuck like that for life!!! :rotfl: it's called a bouteniere (sp?) injury so his pinky is permanently like this! I feel bad for him, but it's just so funny to look at!

I'm very much looking forward to booking Palo :cloud9: I've heard great things about it, i'm just really hoping I can book it whenever pirate night is!

:rotfl2::lmao: LOL! DH literally died laughing at the last part! And we definitely didn't look at our days 'at sea' that way! What a great/fun way to pass the time!

And you're right about it being more relaxing. Literally as soon as DH would drive home from school, i'd be waiting outside with our luggage so we could drive to the airport the second he gets home.

I would do the MR also. We fly in the winter and been fortunate to not have issues, but I would not chance that. You never know where your red eye is coming from and if it's on the east or north where there could be storms, you could be affected.

Wow. I never even thought about WHERE our plane is coming from...I guess I just assumed it would be there :lmao: Thanks for that angle! :thumbsup2

I would just be so devastated if our flight got into MCO at 4pm, when the boat leaves :sad2::sad1:

It may just be wiser for us to book the M.R.....

I was probably about your age when that happened. I actually don't think too much about my pre-30's life because the divorce ended up pretty ugly. Crack tends to do that. I've heard through friends he's sober now, but anyways. I think that was one of my most bizarre experiences of my life. I am really afraid of the island people now!

I'm sorry about Daniel's finger. As woodwind musicians something like that would be devastating. We would have to play a brass instrument, the disgrace!

If you find a TR from the Wonder to the MR let me know, I've been looking to find out the nightly itinerary. I think we'd like to do this cruise before the dream to build up our cruise credits book a better night once we finally get on the Dream.

You know I'm kind of kidding about the "souvenir" like Bonnie I'm sure you'd love to claim that but I certainly would not be suggesting anything Disney would not consider family relayed! :lmao:

First of all, I loved your update. That beach looked gorgeous. I didn't know that Disney does fireworks on the cruise ship! That is SOOOO awesome! It made me think of this part of the Little Mermaid.

When you posted your itinerary for the Western Caribbean cruise I was going to tell you that you should definitely look into a Sting Ray City excursion in Grand Cayman. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done!

But then you said you were considering the Mexican Riviera cruise instead and I know nothing about that itinerary or Disney Cruise ships so I don't really have much to offer about those aspects.... But about the flight - you know what happened to me in January when I was supposed to fly to WDW. I think having the peace of mind that you don't have to worry about missing a flight or missing the cruise :scared1: would be worth it. Plus you'd save money that you could use towards some awesome excursions!

Castaway Cay

So today was our last full day on the ship! :sad2: But I wasn’t going to start cyring until AFTER we experienced Castaway Cay for the second time!

I also wanted to show any new Cruisers what some of the excursion tickets look like, along with your dinner itinerary.

excursiontickets.jpg

Disney just makes it so easy for you! There were some nights that the CM’s asked to see our Dinner ticket and some nights they didn’t ask, but after the 3rd night, we only carried one one us, not both.

Also this is given to you the night before…

CruiseTips.jpg

This is the breakdown of what they suggest you tip the Server, Assistant Server, Head Server and Stateroom host/hostess. You are also given little envelopes (like the ones you see in the picture) and you can put cash in there if you brought cash. Otherwise you would go down to guest services and drop off the filled form so they can charge your account. If you decide to do cash, you give your tips to the servers either the last dinner night or at breakfast on departure day. Same with the Stateroom Host.

This morning we decided to not work out, since it was our last day and all. So we got up around 8:30ish and got ready to head down to Castaway Cay. We decided to skip breakfast since we were DETERMINED to make it to the lunch buffet that’s served at Cabanas. Everyday we kept saying, alright today we’re going to go have lunch at Cabanas and it NEVER happened!

We got in the water for a while, laid out, got hot went back in the water, and so on for about an hour and a half. I really wanted to get a drink of the day and a waitress had walked by just in time. So I ordered two. You know, for just in case I didn’t see her again ;)

DB and Dsil made it out there about 40 minutes after we got there, so they (DB) started drinking too. It was now close to 11am and we were starving! So we decided to head up to the Dream…but I wanted another drink, so we went over to the bar, where we met a really nice CM (can’t remember his name but I believe he was from Czech?) Well, he made us something, I don’t even remember then name, but it was along the lines of a Long Island  Boy were these good and dangerous.

Here are some pics of the bar area and view.

IMG_2723.jpg

Well, we ended up staying at the bar for an hour having a few more drinks and talking to the CM. He did NOT want us to leave! He was like, oh just go grab lunch right here around the corner and come back! :lmao: I think he just enjoyed talking about random stuff not related to the cruise. At this point it was getting close to 12:30 and we were starving, so we payed him (he comped two drinks for us, so we tipped him well) and made our way back to the Dream. But we wanted to take a few pics!

The bolded had me busting up! :lmao: You're too much but I love it!:rotfl2:

I'm going to be searching today for a TR, since I JUST got off the phone with DCL to change our cruise. So i'll let you know if I find one!

:laughing:It's exactly like the Little Mermaid! The fireworks were awesome! They even piped in music to go along with it! :cheer2:

You know, I actually thought about you when I was thinking of delays :sad2: and it made me realize how sad/angry/upset I would be if I missed it..ESPECIALLY if I had the opportunity MONTHS before when I could have changed it.

I was telling Alison, I just got off the phone with DCL and changed our cruise over to the MR for December 11.

Beautiful pics of your second day at Castaway Cay! Looks amazing there!

I like the last few pics of you and your hubby...too funny and too cute! :)

Thanks Bonnie!

WWWOOOOO!!! Only 3 days left!!!:woohoo::yay::dance3:

Are you ready?! How are the kids?

The hubster and I talked it over last night, and we DID decide to change our WC to MR.

All of you had brought up some really good points, which I did relay to DH. We're just going to be much more comfortable and not stressed about trying to get to the airport, worrying about delays, and stuff.

I got off the phone with DCL not too long ago and made the switch, so we'll be sailing, December 11-18, 2011 on the Wonder!

So I just need to post the last few Parts of this TR, then onto make another TR for the Mexican Riviera! :dance3:

We made it back on the ship and made it to Cabanas! I regret not taking a picture of the buffet but at that point I was hungry and buzzed. But I did manage to take a few pics of our plates!

IMG_2735.jpg

IMG_2736.jpg

And our view from our table

IMG_2737.jpg

Just can't beat this view for lunch..

IMG_2738.jpg

And of course some dessert!

IMG_2739.jpg

We were SO happy that we were able to finally experience Cabanas! There was so many options and not enough room on the plates!

So what does Sun + Alcohol + Food = ???? That’s right…a NAP! We passed out for like 2 hours before my brother came knocking on our door asking us to go chill by the pool. Sigh, what a rough days work :rotfl2: So we eventually made our way out to the pool and had a beer and chilled with some folks in the adult pool.

It was sometime around 4:30 that we left the pool, and when we got to our room, this was waiting for us

IMG_2740.jpg

UGGH, all of it was so scrumptious…yes, I did say ALL OF IT! :rotfl:

We took showers, packed up a little bit, and got ready to go watch the 6:15 showing of Disney’s Believe. It was such a sweet show. I even saw one mom tearing up at the end. A great show for the last day of the cruise. Please do not miss out on this show. Your kids will love it, and if you don’t have kids, you will love it. Even DH (who HATES musicals and shows) said this was good.

After the show, we went back to our rooms to finish up packing. Luggage needs to be put outside your room between 8:30-10:30 that night, so we needed to pull out clothes to wear the next day, including clothes for that evening to wear, and any toiletries we need to use. Make SURE you don’t pack any documents that you’ll need for the return trip home, like Passports, Birth Certificates, etc.

Also during our packing, DH and I were discussing our cruise and talked about how much fun we had. Then DH said, I think we should re-book another cruise. I was like :cloud9: Really?! He said, I can’t believe how much fun I had and how apprehensive I was about coming on this cruise. Before we even boarded the ship, he was talking about how it wasn’t going to the be like WDW and that he would have rather picked WDW over a cruise. So this TOTALLY took him (and me) by surprise that he wanted to go on another cruise. So we decided that after dinner, we would go and talk to someone at the Future Cruises desk.

So we packed up really quick, and went down to our final dinner at Enchanted Garden (which we missed out on the first night)

IMG_2782.jpg

It was so cool to see ALL the waiters/waitress line up at the very beginning of the restaurant to greet you as you walked into the restaurant. We felt very loved and special!

They handed us our menus and I wanted to cry

IMG_2741.jpg

Sigh, at this point I got sad, then realized that we were going to book another cruise for next year! I got happy again!

Here’s the rest of the menu:

IMG_2742.jpg

IMG_2743.jpg

So if you recall, we did not dine at Enchanted Garden the first night, so this was our first time being seated here. We were seated at the little half booths up on the main aisle and it was such a great seating..

The fountain in the middle of the restaurant

Let me start off by saying this was by FAR the best meal on the cruise (besides Remy of course)

Appetizers.

DH ordered the Artichoke, Spinach, and Jalapeno Cheese Dip with Pita Bread

IMG_2747.jpg

Very tasty and warm and gooey! Yum!

OH! I need to add that the bread and dipping sauce you are given when you’re seated are RI-DICULOUS good! We even asked for seconds AND THIRDS! But by the third time, he brought a salad type bowl filled with the sauce since we kept asking for more of it…I believe they’ll show up in the pics…

For my appetizer I ordered the Sesame-Crusted Tuna Sashimi, Wakame Salad, and American Caviar with pickled ginger wasabi and soy sauce.

IMG_2748.jpg

This is all I have to say about this dish →

Okay as you can see in this picture, there’s the original dish that the sun-dried tomato dipping sauce came in. And I’d like to point out, I have absolutely NO idea what’s going on in this picture. DH looks like he’s hitting on Dsil, Dsil looks appalled, shocked and somewhat happy by what’s occurring, and DB is like, “Dang this sauce tastes good.” :rotfl2:

I’m very ashamed about this next part. DH and DB usually ordered two entrees at every meal and I was embarrassed by the amount of food on our table each night. But tonight, I was REALLY torn between two entrees. So I decided to get over my embarrassment and order TWO entrees! :sad2:

I ordered the Roasted Half Cornish Hen with Couscous, Mediterranean Vegetables, and a Lemon Herb Sauce

IMG_2750.jpg

Oh goodness! What a fantastic combination of flavors. The hen was juicy and tender and the sauce complimented the meat so well

AND I ordered the Oven-baked Orange Roughy filled with Crabmea, served on a Spaghetti of Leek and Carrot with a Dill-Saffron Sauce.

IMG_2751.jpg

I didn’t think anything could beat the Hen. But this dish blew my other dish out of the water. Oh man. Scrumptralascent, this dish was. I couldn’t stop eating this. I wanted to just because I looked like a pig and I knew I wanted dessert, but putting the fork down on this dish just wasn’t going to happen.

Dh ordered two entrees as well. First was the Yachtsman Steakhouse Center Cut Grilled Beef Tenderloin (can we say we tasted something from Yachtsman Steakhouse now?! ;)) served with potatoes, Asapargus spears, baby vegetables, and Bearnaise sauce.

IMG_2752.jpg

Wunderbar! Delicious! Especially that little potato mountain!

And he ordered the Garlic and Rosemary Marinated Lamb Sirloin, with Onion, Leek, Potato Gratin, and Sun-dried Tomato Jus

IMG_2753.jpg

Melt in your mouth lamb, folks! Awesome!

Here’s a picture of our spread. As you can see there is NO room for anything on this table considering there was 7 entrees between 4 people

IMG_2754.jpg

During our meal, the chefs came out holding Flaming Alaska (I’m thinking that’s what it’s called) and the waiters and waitresses all did a sort of conga line. It was super cute and fun.

IMG_2755.jpg

After our entrée, I had wanted to take a picture in front of the fountain before dessert (before I got fatter). So here’s a pic my DB took for us

Another table shot, and in this shot, you can see the BIG bowl of dipping sauce our server brought out for us on the third time! :lmao:

Congrats on your upcoming MR cruise:goodvibes Can't wait to hear about your planning. I loved your last installment. It made me miss the Dream so much though! We really loved Serenity Bay on CC and drinking Konk Koolers while sitting in the water in our chairs:rotfl: So relaxing. The last night on the ship is so sad.... but you have a fun new cruise to plan:thumbsup2

Okay, I've decided to quit lurking and finally comment! I loved your previous TR, so I was happy to find this TR last week! I am finally all caught up. While a Disney cruise has always seemed interesting to me, I've been more scared/against trying it. I'm claustrophobic, so I just don't know how I'd handle it. But wow, your experience has got me interested in it again!

As always, I love your TR!!

Oh my! The Konk Koolers were DELICIOUS! I had the opportunity to try all the Drink of the Days and the Bahama Mama and Konk Koolers were my favorites! It was so nice to be able to drag a chair out into the water and just sit and relax with a drink in hand! :cloud9:

Tinkgurl, hello!! :) I do remember you from my other TR! Honestly the Verandah rooms were very spacious and the verandah itself helped open the room up even more. I'll be trying out the inside stateroom on the Wonder, so we'll see how that goes. I'm somewhat claustrophobic myself and I did great! Probably because we were always out doing something and were hardly in the rooms. AND the shower in our stateroom was fairly large! Perhaps you should consider doing just a 3 night cruise - you're not on the ship too long and it would give you an idea of if you would ever like to do a longer cruise! :goodvibes

Great update!

We went to Remy on the last night so it is nice to see the food we missed out on at Enchanted Garden :goodvibes - all looks delicious.

Was the barman on Serenity Bay called Dragor or Dragov?! I remember we got a drink from him while sitting on the beach and then I noticed he worked at the Cove Pool on the ship too lol.

:goodvibes You remember me! You've been one of my biggest influences on trying some of the nicer places at WDW for our honeymoon next year!

Hmm..I'm going to have to look into doing a 3 night cruise! I'm sure if we ever do book one, I'll be asking you lots of questions.

Yes! I think that's his name! You can kind of see him in one of the pictures I took of the bar and he ALSO said he had served us at the Cove Bar but we didn't remember :sad2:

He was very nice and talkative.

Can't wait to read your TR about Remy!

And thanks for that nice compliment! :goodvibes
