Drawf mine train - are we setting ourselves up for disappointment?

It seems like these cars might feel more like a suspended coaster rather than the inverted version. Thanks for posting the pics.

SDMT seems more like a suspended coaster than an inverted coaster.

Here's a picture of the suspended coaster Iron Dragon at Cedar Point...as you can see, the vehicles still swing. Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens was another suspended coaster. The swinging definitely adds an interesting element to the ride experience.

Or like Pteranadon Flyers at Islands of Adventure which swings from side to side.

Both of these suspended vehicles still swing around the corners. The point of suspension is just higher than it will be on SDMT.

With an inverted coaster like Dragon Challenge, there is no actual swinging.

Very helpful, as always. I've ridden both BBW and PF and considered both of them as inverted coasters owing to the track placement above the rider. I never considered a further distinction of a suspended coaster with a swinging element to them, and you're right I suppose DC doesn't actually swing--the rider's orientation is directly related to the track's orientation.

All that said, the 7DMT is unique in its design in that the vehicle swings, but does so above the track. My earlier assertions still apply. ;)

Disney's tactics are evidence that are trying to incentivise guests to stay on property and visit Disney parks by secondary means and Universal's tactics seem to be more primary...."come to Universal for this attraction".

Yeah, Disney has the Fantasyland expansion, but it hasn't that much in the way of attractions. Maybe Avatarland and Carsland will change some of that.

Oh, I definitely get what you're saying. :) I'm hoping for Star Wars Land myself!

Maybe it's just me, but I sense a LOT of anticipation for the Drawf Mine Train. I think it's been a long while since Disney dropped an awesome ride on us (this while US has done HP) and it feels like there is a pent up hunger for something really cool.

And it seems like everyone is waiting for DMT, and even though we know it's a kids coaster (given placement in Fantasyland) I still feel like people are unconsciously anticipating something awesome.

I know that I can't quite help myself and sort of unconsciously am expecting something really cool.

Could it be crazy amazing? Yes.

But that seems unlikely.
I wonder if we're just setting ourselves up for disappointment by expecting too much.

Why in the world does Disney making something crazy amazing seem unlikely? I'm not following that logic at all, but it could just be because I find a LOT of what Disney does crazy amazing. If your definition of "crazy amazing" is RnRC, then maybe not so much in Fantasyland. :confused3

As it is, I expect nothing more than a goofy rollercoaster that goes in and out of a mine which plays music from the movie and has giant jewels on the walls, broken track here and there, maybe a witch with a red apple here or there, and rocks back and forth a little bit.

Sounds awesome! :thumbsup2

I am wondering if we will be let down. They have tough thing to pull off. They want to make it cool but in order to do they need to add excitement, But too much and it is going to scare children. It seems really tough to pull off. I was wondering if Universal was planning on doing Mine ride. With them building Gringots I would kind of figure that mind ride would be the attraction. They have such advantage as it can be for older audience.

I also find much of Disney crazy amazing - but not everything can be or is even intended to be.

To be clear, As OP I never said amazing = thrill ride!

Toy Story, PoTC, Haunted Mansion, Soarin are all awesome attractions that have a low thrill quotient.

But I say "unlikely" because I feel like unconsciously we're sort of hoping for an E ticket type ride (thrill based or not) that will be a true anchor in Fantasyland... Yet I take it that's not what 7DMT is intended to be.

I'm just suggesting that if Disney said "we're making a Barnstormers type kiddie coaster" our expectations would be "oh, that's nice". If they said we're making a family style ride but with all the quality, size, scope and technology of Splash or PoTC our expectation would be, "awesome! Can't wait!"

All I'm suggesting is that I don't think Disney is intending to make an E ticket attraction, yet some of us (e.g. Yours truly) can't help but get E ticket excited.... Which is a recipe for a let down.

Often contentment is more about how something fits in with your expectation than its absolute quality.

If Disney had somehow magically opened Fantasyland with no one's prior knowledge everyone would be over the moon about it. But after months of walls and cranes and speculation lots of people were a bit disappointed - not because it's bad, but because it's less amazing than the expectations they had built up.

I just had a mental image of the dwarfs dancing around like the multiplicity oompaloompas in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. :lmao:

The visuals I just got in my head won't leave for WEEKS now. So.....thanks. :lmao:

As for the 7DMT expectations, I'm excited no matter how 'intense' it is. I'm a kid at heart, so even though I love thrill rides, the simplest kid rides can make me smile, have fun and make memories, which is what matters to me. That's what I go to Disney for! :goodvibes

Rumour is that they are planning an amber mine family ride of some sort in the new Jurassic Park expansion set to open Summer 2015 along with another dark ride. That is purely speculation though(the exact rides not the expansions)

amen! I'm 38 yrs old and can't wait!!!! :goodvibes
Hi Ppl

alot of people keep saying MK is in need of a thrill ride, i dont think so, MK dosnt scream thrill rides to me, its about the stories and the magic to me anyways.
i always think thrill rides belong at Universal Studios. Disney needs to stick to what has worked since opening, look at jungle cruise, pirates of the carribbean, peter pan, Its a small world, haunted mansion, their all rides with audio animatronic dark rides some with a slight thrill aspect which make it intresting. thatys what disney does best, rides for everyone for every age.

just my 0.2c anyways

Anyone expecting anything better than mediocre is just setting themselves up for disappointment.

I'm sure this has been said before, but I think that if you think you are going to be disappointed, then yes you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Personally, I am excited for SDMT because I like new rides, I like the Snow White story, and it sounds like it will have minor thrills with major theming. Perfect. I'm a bit of a pansy about thrill rides: BTMRR is as about as thrilling as I'll go...and only because I've been on it a million times growing up and I know the ins and outs and what to expect. Prob won't do Space Mountain again because it's too jerky, won't do EE again because I nearly crapped myself...

Well, enough about me.. my point is that I am having the same problem with DisneyQuest. I went from fitting hours of it into my schedule, to thinking maybe 1-2 hours max, to maybe not at all - all because I keep reading negative threads here on Disboards. After all, all I really want is an arcade to play some classics, skeeball, air hockey... but even that sounded like a drag after some reviews. So now when I do go, all I will think about is the negative crap instead of what I thought I was going to like. And I have, indeed, set myself up for disappointment.

Yes, this. :thumbsup2 If people were going to Disney mainly for thrill rides, the park would have tumbleweeds rolling through it by now. People go for the "Disney experience" more than for specific rides.

We have been going to Disney for many years and it's never been a 'thrill ride' destination. As you say, it's a Disney experience that people go back time and again for.

If teenagers 'outgrow' it (a lot of them don't, ours didn't), there are many more young families, preteens arriving to keep the parks full. I don't think Disney would have any worries there. They keep the parks plenty full!

I hear couples start planning babies first trip to Disney even before they are born. :)

The Mine train has a bench seat (from pictures) with a bar, wouldn't think it would be very wild when it's billed for families. I surely hope not.

We will not be let down... I know the new coaster will be great.. we were blown away last month with the rest of fantasyland... so we know it is going to be great!

Yes we are. Its probably going to be shorter then u think. There just isn't a lot of space there

But I hope it improves the area

At the end of the day... I expect it will be a nice, smooth, somewhat short little trip into a piece of Snow White's world....and I'll be thrilled with that!!!
