Since most of my posts eventually turn to food, why not just start one that is food related.....
I have been craving real german Berliner, or Krapfen as they are known in Bavaria and Austria (jam filled donuts, covered in powdered sugar; usually filled with plum or apricot).
The last of the local german bakeries here has become North Americanized. I even had to endure New Year's day with no Berliner. I have yet to meet a North American donut I like - most are sickly sweet and light weight.
So... here I read quite frequently that some of you eat doughnuts at DLRP. I see them on some of the menus.
Please tell me - are they real Berliners??? or are they the light and sweet pastry which are called donuts in North America ie Tim Hortons or Krispy Kreme type confections?
