Since most of my posts eventually turn to food, why not just start one that is food related..... :goodvibes

I have been craving real german Berliner, or Krapfen as they are known in Bavaria and Austria (jam filled donuts, covered in powdered sugar; usually filled with plum or apricot).

The last of the local german bakeries here has become North Americanized. I even had to endure New Year's day with no Berliner. I have yet to meet a North American donut I like - most are sickly sweet and light weight. :headache:

So... here I read quite frequently that some of you eat doughnuts at DLRP. I see them on some of the menus.

Please tell me - are they real Berliners??? or are they the light and sweet pastry which are called donuts in North America ie Tim Hortons or Krispy Kreme type confections? :crazy2:

All being well I will be in DLRP in nine days time:cool1:

I will certainly do some doughnut/donut research on your behalf - as a favour to you of course!;)

Doughnuts in the UK are usually a slightly sweetened bread dough with a jam/stewed apple/custard filling deep fried and rolled in castor sugar. I quite like Krispy Kreme and we can get them in some places in the UK now. I hope our traditional doughnuts can exist side by side with the American ones, as there is something to be said for both.

I'm sure I will be able to get some pictures - I quite like the idea of a food thread along the lines of the one on the Restaurants board.

Sounds good to me.

Restaurants board you say! - didn't know there was one until now. :flower3:

:drinking1 (can't find that drooling smilie face!)

I used to hang out on the restaurant board before I headed over here to the smaller but exciting DLRP board!

Love the idea of a 'food' thread, especially since there seems to be more restaurants per square metre in DLRP than in WDW, and the variety seems to be more diverse.

Thank you for the offer to check out doughnuts! I may have to give Father_and_Son that task as well - I believe that they head out shortly to DLRP.

Hello Bavaria,

nerver really had an eye on bakeries in DLRP and never saw real german Berliner everywhere.

But in 2 and a half week we will be there and I will search for them. Maybe you get them on the Character Tea Party or at King Ludwig´s.

Will keep you up to date when I am back.

ah, there he is!! Thanks!! helpful as always.....

I love the Amish donuts that they make on Fat Tuesday. If you are ever in the Lancaster PA area on Fat Tuesday give then a try. Most are not jelly filled, but some of then do make them. This is about the only day of the year DH and I eat donuts.

TOO funny! I am actually scheduled to be in that part of the world around Fat Tuesday. I may just need to go on a doughnut foray!

As promised I did research the Doughnuts/Donuts available at DLRP!

Rosie, great photos :teeth: but now my mouth is watering  and I have already had a cream egg and a bar of Turkish Delight tonight.

THANK YOU for doing the research! I've been away from the boards for weeks but just logged in and saw your response.

I'm sorry that I gave you such a difficult assignment but you came through - thanks for the photos!

Looks like I will need to wait untli I am back in Germany and/or Austria for my Berliner....but a chocolate waffle sounds great right now.
