Double Wide Stroller Should Be Banned

I'd like to see strollers not allowed in the stores as well - not only do the double wide ones block access (safety issue there) I've seen whole displays wiped out by a double wide stroller - not just one display, this stroller took out 3, in one of the shops at MK. Clothing, boxed princess stuff, and a jewelry rack, kerplunk! The parent tried to cram the stroller through a spot only half the width of the stroller, sigh...

Again, you too should email Disney (see my link above). Perhaps you should get wheelchairs banned, while you're at it - they're essentially the same width, and everyone knows that wheelchairs can be a real pain in blocking aisles. Sure, there are more strollers, but you might as well go whole hog!

Then again, you may not have to contact Disney... the epidemic of stroller-caused destruction in gift shops is reaching a breaking point. Disney may have to act soon, lest other families like mine ruin the Happiest Place on Earth! :sad2:

Common sense and manners. They can be missing from so many situations...

I have no issues with them in the parks. I would LOVE to see them banned in the stores, though!

I keep having people run into me on the sidewalks at Disney because they are walking while looking down at their phones.

Maybe Disney should ban cell phones. :rolleyes1

Gosh, that makes... four? five? already! Seriously, you guys should create a facebook group to recruit others to your cause. You should all email guest communications about the blight of double strollers in WDW stores!

If the big strollers are banned from stores, what are the families with several small kids supposed to do? How can you buy anything if you have to carry little kids? I don't see that as an answer...

If strollers are banned from stores, all those kids who would otherwise be contained will then be free to grab stuff off the shelves, throw it around, etc., etc. Even with parental supervision, it happens. Which would you prefer?

DD15. DD13. DS4. DS2. DS4 months. That's five kids, three age four and under (and the four year old will have been four for one month as of our trip). So no, two umbrella strollers won't cut it - baby will be too young to use an umbrella stroller, period. He'll be carried most of the time, but the double will allow him to lie down and wiggle a bit while the four year old takes a turn walking (or we perhaps carry one of the smaller boys).

I think that you should contact Disney (wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com) with your idea of banning us from stores, but graciously allowing us to use our stroller in outdoor areas of the parks. I'm betting that Disney will see it your way - they don't actually want the full $2500 or so that my family of seven will end up spending on incidentals, souveniers, and such during our eleven nights at WDW.

Sure, if we keep the stroller outside - which means that we'll have to load/unload the kids on every gift shop, which means that we'll just not go in them all - it will cut down on our spending, but I'm willing to bet that Disney is happy to forfeit our money - and money from other families with young children - so that we don't possibly inconvenience you.

You ought to send that email today. Maybe even organize a facebook group!

:thumbsup2 Great post.

On the other side of the coin, I'm sure Disney would prefer that toddlers be confined to strollers in the store. A 2 year old on the loose is probably about as destructive as the occasional stroller operator who takes out a display or 2.:lmao:

I understand the need for strollers, and we used a single wide when our kids were young. However, those double wide strollers are a pain to get around for everyone in the park. Worse yet is when they bring them into buildings. Often times there is no way around them. I can't imagine using a double wide at WDW is easy either. They should just ban them, even if that's what WDW rents.

BTW, at no point during our trip did I even notice the ECVs or wheelchairs, just the doublewide strollers plowing their way through the crowd.

I can understand why some are bothered by them, mainly because of the person pushing them, but sometimes trying to pull your tired children through the crowds is dangerous & stressful because the kids get shoved around by the people WALKING & running to get a great spot to watch the fireworks or parade. And I have personally witnessed an elderly couple, both in motorized chairs, going 2 wide in a narrow walk space right at fireworks time & they didn't care that no one could pass them. Several CM asked them to please get behind one another, but they never did. I had to walk behind them all the way from Adventureland, pass the Crystal Palace Restaurant, to Casey's Corner, going at a pace of 2 mph!

Or what about the family of 6 who decide to just stop in the middle of the walkway because they need to look at the map? And this always happens right when it's crowded, so getting around them is no picnic.

There are issues all around the park w/strollers, chairs, & with people just walking, so why should any one group be singled out & banned? Just trying to give perspective.

As a now stroller free parent........ (it's coming one day guys I promise and it's awesome!!) I totally

disagree! If you think strollers are a pain to navigate around you should have to walk anywhere near my DS when he was still stroller age. Constant suddenly stopping and picking things up, verring left or right, falling down (and crying), running over to see whatever catches his eye, etc. etc. If you plan was to just run over my kiddo on your way to Space Mtn as he poked his way thru the park let's just say your magical day would not be so magical. Do you really think it will help to have all those kiddos many of whom are toddlers walking in the streets? Is that really going to help speed up your pace or keep you on a direct path to your destination?

I've been cut off by my fair share of strollers and I apologize if I cut anyone off (and I'm sure at some point I did) but I've also been cut off by just as many rude people walking thru the parks with or without kids. Rude is rude regardless of what you are or are/not pushing and banning strollers will not help that, ban the rude people to stop it.

Well, you see the next logical step - ban two year olds from WDW stores, too. Obviously.

Cut this out! I may have to report this post to the mods. How dare you ask for personal responsibility! Much better to generalize a group of people that you can visually distinguish.

No, strollers are a blight on WDW, and should be removed post haste.

The nerve of some people, wanting good manners...

I posted this in another thread recently. What I see here on the DIS is a whole group of people who would be happy if Disney were actually just child free so they could have the whole place to themselves.

This is a problem with multiple causes..... not the least of which is rude and inconsiderate guests. Couple that with Disney's desire to pack the parks at all costs, every day of the year......... and it's not going to going to get better any time soon.

But banning double strollers (I refuse to use the term double wide as it is a very derogatory term meant to equate a stroller with a trailer home) would not solve the problem.

We are a family of 5 including twins with cerebral palsy, so a double wide is the only way to go. As a pp mentioned, these double wides are usually no wider than an adult size wheelchair......and I also agree with another pp where if the stroller doesn't fit, you don't go in. Not sure what the problem is, pretty ignorant POV. Not all double wide stroller owners use them as battering rams.

I would also like to point out that I am a pretty proficient stroller driver (you should see me in the grocery store with me pushing the stroller in front and pulling the cart behind) and have more problems with people trying to dash across in front of me more than anything. I patienly wait for people to be out of the way before I proceed as I know what it feels like to have a stroller attack your ankles.

You are extremely rude. You aren't the only person allowed to have an opinion.

Never had an issue with the stroller... never even been bumped by anyone pushing one... Now I have been rammed from behind in some jerk in the electric scooters... frankly I would rather they banned those things, it seems too often someone that doesn't really need one decides to rent one and because they aren't used to using them can't drive worth a flip... my ankles can attest to that.

Instead of double wides, I think people should use double ups!!

i have twins too, and would highly recommend a MacLaren. They are expensive but worth every penny. They are as narrow as double come and steer great and hold up to lots of hard use. I always had an older sibling standing on the back rungs (yeah, yeah, terribly dangerous if I let go and his weight made the stroller fall backwards - believe me, lots of old bitties felt the need to point this out to me regularly). And, I sold it used after 2 years and got about $125 for it used! (but I'm also a neat freak and it looked remarkably clean despite it's constant use).

Wow.

WDW could make its stores a little less cluttered, of course. I'm sure the CMs that had to clean up the mess left behind godzilla-stroller would have liked a store with more open space.

But why does the common sense idea of not having a humongously wide stroller blocking access in a store bring out so much vitriole? Why the personal attacks? I'd be glad to email WDW about the stroller dimensions allowed in their stores, but I don't need to be harangued by anyone.
