Double FP for resort guests with seperate tickets.

FP lines haven't been noticeably longer this week and headliner FPs don't seem to be running out faster than they normally have.

Maybe it's been due to which particular park we've chosen each day, but the crowds in those parks aren't too bad right now.

This is what I experienced in mid-July as well. It was the usual delay with the BTGs, but we never had a problem with FP running out with the exception of Space Mountain- and that was at 9 pm. There was not a mad rush on the FPs at all.

I am at BLT beginning August 25. I have UT tickets. So, is it correct, that as of now and I know it may change, I can get FPs with my room key as well as my UT tickets? I have not registered my UT tickets in MyDisneyExperience App.

Thank you.

Yes that is correct.

Thank you. If as of August 25 I can use my UT AND room key for FP can I use them for different FP attractions at different times so I can get two at the almost same time for two separate attractions?

Thank you.

That would seem to be the case. I plan on trying it myself with my AP and room key when I stay onsite in a couple of weeks.

I don't care if it's Disney policy or not, I don't care if I hear it from a CM or not. I will do this if the system allows it, and I will sleep just fine each night.

::yes::

Yes, also true.

I'll bet it will still be that way when you get here. I wasn't shocked that the AP and current KTTW key worked, but the previous KTTW surprised me. I just happened to still have it in with my passes from the day before, so I thought I'd try.

Distance at which it can be read is a factor of the antenna configuration and the size/strength of the magnetic field at the reader. Most applications like this they don't make the field too strong, so it requires practically touching the reader.

It is my understanding that the bands (not the cards) have a battery and support distance reading. This will enable future support of future futuristic capabilities. (Like Mickey knowing your name without asking you or something like that.) Think EZ-Pass, but more in the future.

The cards are the suggested alternative for people who do not wish to be "interrogated" (identified) from a distance; they do not support distance-reading. So your RFID can only be read (in theory) when you present/allow it to be read.

Are you certain about that?

Josh at EasyWDW reports this:

The FASTPASS machine does not check to see if the ticket inserted is valid or has been used to enter the Park. And on top of that, it doesn’t check to see if the card is even a Disney ticket – just that it has a magnetic strip.

Based on my experience last week, this is not true.

At rope drop at Disney Studios, I'd go bagless and "run" to the TSM fastpasses while my wife and daughter took their time getting in to the park. The first day I did this, I made it to the FP machines before they entered the park. My ticket produced an FP, theirs did not. I was just about to exit and get back in line when I thought to just try it again - and it worked. The next time, I told my daughter to text me once they were in. Rather than waiting for the text, I just tried their tickets - it worked but my phone beeped just as the machine was spitting out valid fastpasses for them.

I also had some old park hoppers with leftover Pluses (and no majors entries) on them converted to RFID tickets. I did test one of these in an FP machine and it was rejected. I don't recall the error message.

If I have linked my UT tickets to MyDisneyExperience, is there a way to unlink them so I can use both my ticket and room key? Thank you.

I think when you arrive you'll have to ask for them to be unlinked. Ask either the conceirage or go to Guest Relations to have it done.

FWIW, this is why I'm NOT linking my UT tickets.

You don't want/need to unlink your *tickets* from MDX. That's what allows your MagicBand to work as admission and allows you to make FP+ reservations. If there's no admission linked to MDX, no FP+.

(Well, sort of. Before I linked our admission, we had phantom/fake 10-day park hoppers listed in MDX and we could make 10 days of FP+ reservations. I deliberately waited until after we had upgraded our UT tickets to link them to MDX - some of our UT tickets were 5-day passes and I didn't want to run the risk of losing FP+ reservations so I only linked the tickets to MDX AFTER we upgraded mine to an AP and the others to 10-day PHs. Now that wife and daughter's tickets have been used up, I can still make FP+ reservations but they cannot.)

You will get KTTW cards when you check in. Unless you go out of your way to have the admission put on the KTTW card, you'll have both.

I don't believe this is entirely true. I can probably test again tomorrow. But I think they have to be valid Disney ticket media, but since they are all linked to your profile, they are all "active" once you enter the park with one of them. However, the old Fastpass computers can't tell if one card or the other is part of the same profile - it seems them as separate but active.

I tested this today. Instead of using our four APs, I used two APs and two KTTW cards from the same two people - and got four valid FPs. The ticket codes at the bottom showed a difference - two had AP codes and their activation date, and two had different codes and yesterday's activation date (the KTTW cards).

I checked DMX, and sure enough the KTTW cards have magically appeared as active media on my profile and my kids.

Passive units can still be read at a distance, if the magnetic field is large and powerful enough, the antenna is large enough to induce enough current at the desired distance, the chip puts out a strong enough signal and the receiver is sensitive enough to pick it up without interference. Some new EZPass-type transponders are actually passive stickers - SunPass gives those out now.

The active transmitters in the bands are independent, operating at a different frequency (and presumably putting out a different code for security reasons). It doesn't require the magnetic field to induce the transponder to send the signal, so people don't have to be standing in a field so strong that it might not be too healthy for long-term exposure. :)

The cards are the suggested alternative for people who do not wish to be "interrogated" (identified) from a distance; they do not support distance-reading. So your RFID can only be read (in theory) when you present/allow it to be read.

With the right equipment, those cards can still be read at a distance. Said equipment is not necessarily portable or easily hidden. :)

Our RFID APs only worked for us if the person had entered the park (we used magicbands to enter the park) and the KTTW cards worked whether the person had entered the park or not. This is how it is working as of this morning.

THAT is interesting. so the KTTW cards worked for someone who did not enter the park at all, even with separate media?

Sounds like the KTTW cards might be "always ON" then right now.

I should add, I'm not staying at a test resort, but our KTTW cards did work - but we all entered with our APs.

I wonder if I can enter with my KTTW card...

Yes. My wife stayed in the room this morning while the kids and I went to the park. We entered with our bands and got FPs with the AP cards (my wife's gave an invalid FP) and then just a bit later all the KTTW cards worked with her not in the park.

Actually we haven't been double dipping much. The lines haven't really been too long for the rides the kids have been wanting to ride. Star Tours was a walk on most of this morning and we can only ride TSMM a couple of times before our arms wear out. :)

It gets freakier and freakier... :)

Yeah, I didn't actually double-dip - I just selected a pair of each type of card and got 4 FPs, which is what I would have done.

You don't want/need to unlink your *tickets* from MDX. That's what allows your MagicBand to work as admission and allows you to make FP+ reservations. If there's no admission linked to MDX, no FP+.

Sorry if I am dense, but can I ask a point of clarification? If you are *not* part of the Magic Band/FP+ test group, should you keep your tickets unlinked from MDX? Can you pull separate fastpasses with both your KTTW card and park ticket if they are linked on MDX?

We have been in Disney since Monday and have been enjoying multiple FPs all week. We use our APs, room keys, and a plethora of old room keys that I brought with us. All have worked. Very glad that I heard about the glitch prior to coming down.

Should have never thrown away those old room keys LOL
