Drea: Oh honey!

kb111570: Which part of town are you staying in? We're staying at the Marriott by the lake, so we'll be close to most parts of town. I would suggest Mother's, but if you aren't staying close to the financial district, it's quite a haul to just get a good po boy there. How familiar are you with getting around town? What's your favorite place or part of town?

Brandie

I am so sorry for you loss, lots of hugs to you and E's Family

 Drea

I'm so sorry for the recent losses in your family. Hugs and prayers are sent to all of you.

Good morning everyone...........

Drea - Sorry for your loss! We are all here for you!

Crissi

:grouphug: Group hug from your fellow DISers.

Hi All,
My email notifications have mysteriously stopped again. So here i was blythly thinking that everyone was just off enjoying their weekends and not DISsing--uh, yeah NOT:rotfl:

Drea:  I am so sorry for your and E's loss.

80's night: I loved the list of things:lmao: So many were so true. And Kimberly, can I shamelessly "borrow" from your write up about the DIS 80s night when I make the evites to the 80s party I am throwing for Dave's birthday next month? I was never a NKOTB fan (I think I am a tad too old), but some concerts I really remember are Michael Jackson (in my Thriller jacket:rotfl: ) and a few years later, the Cure (Brandie I was NOT a goth girl, but my best friend through Jr. and Sr. High was--we saw The Cure at McNichols Arena when I was in 9th grade--great show, and the first I went to sans parents). HE-HE I can't wait for eighties night.

Drea--Big hugs to your entire family. So sorry to hear about your F-I-L's passing. I hope your DH makes a smooth return to the states & that God blesses you with the strength you'll need to support your DH.

Were they Palmetto jeans? I had a pair of those, I ripped off the triangle. As if no one would know.....hehe
I was also a crimper. Ye-gads. Did you notice the turned-up collar is back?

I am SO there.

I think I can say yes to everything on that list! LOL

Oh, and when Universal first opened up down here, I went to the Nickelodian Studios tour with some friends. They pulled us into a studio audience for a taping, and do you know who they were interviewing? One of the New Kids! I forgot his name.....I was a little too old at the time to be into them, but I remember thinking to myself girls would claw each other's eyes out to be sitting where I am right now.....four feet from a New Kid.

YESSSSS~! They were Palmetto jeans. Ugh. I was so ashamed :)

Just the other day I ran to Hobby Lobby & looked down and realized I was still wearing my slippers. My, how far I've fallen....

Hello all -

The 80's list was the BEST!! There is a picture floating around somewhere of me in my leg warmers and headband singing Sheena Easton's "Telephone" in my Elementary School talent show.......I really meant to BURN it!

We officially applied for our passports yesterday.......I am curious to see how long they are going to take.........they are saying 4-6 weeks. We will see! One more thing to check off my list before the cruise......We only have 243 days left!!! MUST START PACKING NOW!! HA HA !!! Maybe if I do start now I will figure out what we really need and do NOT really need by then!

Crissi

Drea, your 2008 sounds like our 2006. Very sorry to hear about your loss

Drea our prayer go with you and yours. I too believe there is a reason for all things. Although that reason is not always clear. Please have safe travels. Lois

Like you need to ask!! Of course you may! Of course we all expect to see some photos after his party!

Hmmm...I wonder if that picture could reappear??? :rotfl:

I think Jen (nenner1), who works for USPS, has said they're taking at least 4 weeks, but I should let her speak to that. I had my passport renewal done in (I think) October, and it took less than 2 weeks from the time I mailed it to the time the new one was in my mailbox. Hopefully it will come soon, because it feels so good to have that biggie out of the way!

Speaking of packing....I was at Dollar Tree this afternoon, and found some more goodies for Fish Extenders, including supplies for my craft project!!! I need to put them in the box I've started of things that will get shipped prior to my departure from CMH!!

Hey Leslie!!! Great to see you back with us!!

http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html

I'm going to have to try that quiz sometime this week! I'm usually so bad that those!

Since I'm a Double Dip virgin, I learned something today from another thread that I'm sure will be news to others.

DCL gives you a special price if you rent equipment for both days we are on the island. The "catch" is that you apparently need to secure your rentals before we get to Castaway Cay. So keep in mind that if you rent them once we are on the island, the fee will be full price for both days.

So for you seasoned Double Dippers, did you find this special listed at a discount when you were booking excursions online? I would assume so (meaning you wouldn't have to wait to get on the ship), but you know what they say about assuming. ;)

I was at Home Depot yesterday to check out prices for a stand up shower stall. While I was there I decided to pick up a few Mickey paint cards. My wife asked what they were for and I told her they were to decorate our stateroom door. Then she said, "what if someone takes them?" , and I told her that's why I am taking extra.

Then it made me wonder about the larger decor that people put up. Has anyone ever had their door decor stolen? I talking about the larger ones that took you some time to think up and create. I would be really pissed if someone were to swipe my door decors:furious: .

We had heard about that before our Double Dip in 2006 and were excited for it. DCL did not offer it on our cruise:confused: I sure hope they have brought that package back.

Michael--we hae never had door decorations stolen. However I do know otehrs have had issues. Anything we have is always personalized (and not really htat good:rolleyes: ) so perhaps that is why. I would not put up anything I would be devastated to lose.

Karate--Just bragging for a minute about Marika. I can't post a photo of her in her new brown belt because she won't actually receive the belt unitl Friday, but she passed her test with flying colors:cheer2: Of the 7 kids testing (at a variety of levels) she was one of only two who will not have to re-take any portion of it (she never does, she is a total perfectionist and woudl not test if she were not more than ready). We are very proud of her:love:

80's party--Kimberly, the party is 3 weeks away, but I will be sure to get soem photos and post them:rolleyes: Marika is probabl going to go for hte Madonna look with the tafeta "skirt", leggings, tank top, jacket and lots of odd jewlry, and i will go classic leg warmers, leggings, side ponytail, etc. Rio is debating. He could go punk, or do the Don Jonson thing with the jacket and T shirt, maybe suspenders and a bolo tie, etc. Too many choices and none readily available in his closet so his mind is just boggled at the moment:rotfl:

I'm pretty sure it's offered beforehand. You can rent bikes and snorkels beforehand as well, you just bring your ticket to the rentall counter :thumbsup2

On our second cruise, we put our "welcome back" magnet on our stateroom door and it was stolen. Our dry erase board remained......

emsip - :confused3 I know people have had that happen, but it didn't happen to us. I put our room number on the door decorations, though, along with our pictures.

Marika: :cool1: Woohoo! Congratulations!!!

Hadley: eBay has "vintage" tuxes for $30... DH and I were cracking up at the colors and styles. Sage Green, anyone? What about baby blue (with the ruffled shirt)? Seriously, though, it looks like he's going to go for a Jean Yves "Mirage" in black - jacket length is past his hips, and it is a mandarin collar. Hopefully, he'll be able to try one on at a local tux place at lunch today to make sure he's got the right size. We're looking at $235 from eBay, plus alterations (done locally). :cool1: *crossing my fingers*

For the 80's party, I keep thinking of "morbid" clothes to wear... Like my Sandman shirt. Death on it (which, by the way, is female in this comic, and quite gorgeous), with the phrase, "You get what everyone gets... You get a lifetime." However, I think I bought that shirt in the 90's. *hrmm*

Ok, and if you guys SWEAR to never tell a LIVING soul this... I was a Guess runway model. Once. ONLY ONCE! That is the source of my nightmares about 80's fashion. I had waist-length blonde surfer girl hair, and I swear to GOD, that hairstylist had a wicked gleam in his eyes when he found out he was doing my hair. You'd better BELIEVE there are no existing pictures left of the horror I was made up as! He crimped ALL of it, and poofed it, and lacquered it with hair spray... and *sobbing*... and... it was AWFUL!!!! I had 4 different colors on my eyes, and my lips were radioactive pink... The outfit was that acid-washed fuschia nastiness (not the nice teal I had tried on before) and was 4 sizes too big, so they did that "cool" baggy thing to me.

So yeah, after that, I wore black as much as possible, listened to Depeche Mode and The Cure, and never wore makeup again. :rotfl: It evidently is taking me years to recover from that horror *looking down at my all grey outfit*...

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I need therapy.

Hi mom! :rotfl: I have all your pictures (unless you're holding out on me!), so I know you can't blackmail me here! :duck:

*running away*

Tell her Congratulations for me. :thumbsup2

I received my brown belt ten years ago, but in Tae Kwon Do. I would have my black belt but my instructor passed away unexpectedly. Now I train in brazilian jiujitsu. My brother has his black belt and owns a Karate school in Houston.

My father is a black belt in Judo and is a great example of the benefits of martial arts and exercise in general. He just turned 80 but you wouldn't be able to tell. He still works out on the punching bag and does a 30min walk/jog every morning without fail. He had quadruple bypass surgery a few months ago, and doctors told him that his heart was as strong as a 40yr old's.
