Brandie--:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Michael--Thanks for the kind thoughts for Marika. I will pass along your message. It sounds like you have quite a bit of training yourself:scared: I will have to stay on your good side:upsidedow

 :scared: Why oh why did I admit to all that???

Oh, that's right... DH thought it was hilarious when I told him and egged me on to tell you guys why I became such a "goth" chick...

So, once again, it's all my best friend's fault. But, hey, I'm making him try on a tux today... so it's all good... unless you guys use my fear of Guess and crimping irons against me.... *glare*

:rotfl:

Brandie

Karate--Just bragging for a minute about Marika. I can't post a photo of her in her new brown belt because she won't actually receive the belt unitl Friday, but she passed her test with flying colors:cheer2: Of the 7 kids testing (at a variety of levels) she was one of only two who will not have to re-take any portion of it (she never does, she is a total perfectionist and woudl not test if she were not more than ready). We are very proud of her:love:

Awesome.... Congrats Marika!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

DS is a Black Belt so I know all the steps it takes to get to such an Honor... and How many classes and devotion and time and energy and Years it can take...

:hourglass Wow...that's the quietest 15 hours this thread has seen in a LONG time!

WOOO-HOOO:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: (that's four of us dancing here in New Hampshire;) )

Drea: Your family is in our thoughts

Hadley: That is great news about Marika :cool1: How exciting, you must be very proud!

We are applying for our passports this week. For those of you who have done this for young children in the past, since little ones change so much (my youngest is 2.5) should I wait until closer to the cruise to order his passport to make sure that his photo still looks like him??

I don't think that you will have any problems with thier passport....My children have had theirs for 2 years now and have changed quite a bit:clown:

charlie:woohoo:

I was at Home Depot yesterday to check out prices for a stand up shower stall. While I was there I decided to pick up a few Mickey paint cards. My wife asked what they were for and I told her they were to decorate our stateroom door. Then she said, "what if someone takes them?" , and I told her that's why I am taking extra.

Then it made me wonder about the larger decor that people put up. Has anyone ever had their door decor stolen? I talking about the larger ones that took you some time to think up and create. I would be really pissed if someone were to swipe my door decors:furious: .

We've only done 1 Disney cruise, so my experience is limited. But, we did have a decorated door with the following:
Chicago Bears emblem
The homeschool logo in my signature
A magnet for each port of call, personalized with our names somewhere

Nobody ever touched our decorations. It was funny, when you're in the bathroom getting ready, you can hear people comment on your magnets as they pass by.

I did hear someone say "A homeschooled kid? Poor thing."

Yea....poor kid on a CRUISE and his school work is each port of call...poor, poor child :) hehehehehe

Arin- My son had his passport photo done at 1 1/2 & he's now 4. Never have had a problem with it. The last time we traveled, my stepdaughter had changed the MOST in her passport photo and they sort of looked at her a bit, but no big deal.

Brandie-A Guess MODEL? You were the envy of my tween self! HA! At least with those baggy pants we could PINCH ROLL the legs baby!

Heather: We plan on having a Greenbay Packers sign on our door! Rivals, I love it :rotfl:

Don't we have to get another picture when they're 5? Can't remember, but for some reason I've had that in my head for a while. I'll go look it up.

Oh, and lemme tell ya, once I saw my hair, I would have traded places with you in a heartbeat!!! :rotfl:

I think only one pair of my pants can still be pinch rolled... I finally succumbed to "boot cut" and freecycled my old "relaxed fit" pants.

I still have a weak spot in my heart for button fly 505's.

I think you are thinking of them expirig after 5 years (because their looks change so drasically).

Rio was 3 months old in his passport photo and looked pretty different when he travel enary 5 years later, but it was a non issue. Marika looks NOTHING Like the little kid in her current photo (new one being appied for ver ysoon--photos already taken), but again we have had no issues.

Oh, was I the only one here who wore mostly ESPRIT? I did have some Guess and OP, but ESPRIT was my favourite:lovestruc

I think Jen (nenner1), who works for USPS, has said they're taking at least 4 weeks, but I should let her speak to that. I had my passport renewal done in (I think) October, and it took less than 2 weeks from the time I mailed it to the time the new one was in my mailbox.
I'm going to have to try that quiz sometime this week! I'm usually so bad that those!

Hi everyone...
Yes the regular passports are taking 4-6 weeks. That is the "standardized answer", anyway. They may come quicker, as Kimberly experienced. I haven't heard any complaints of them taking longer. Expedited ones are taking 3 weeks. We have really seen an upturn in passport applications recently...the phone rings off the hook. Also I don't know how many people are aware, but the new Passport card will be available to apply for Feb.1. It is the wallet card that you can use for the carribbean, Mexico, and Canada. It is wayyyyyy cheaper (less than half the price...at $45/adult, $35/child) of a regular passport book...and the fees (on the books) are also going up in Feb. to $100/adult and $85/child. So if you only plan on needing a passport for cruising you may want to consider just getting the card. That's what we are doing!:thumbsup2

Oh, and yes, we know that when a child's passport is issued that they will likely not resemble the picture any more once time passes. It is not a problem, so don't worry!

That Quiz was awesome..though I didn't do so good. I scored an 81. Its funny how you think you know the words to those songs until you really have to sit and think about it. For example, how my eight-year-old-brain turned "You spin me right round, like a record baby" into "You spin me rice round, like b-read and gravy"...:confused3 And Brandie..Holy crap! I'll bet you looked HOT!:firefight

Don't forget those Coca-Cola shirts! I never had guess, or palmetto jeans, I had some acid wash Bongo jeans though. I couldn't afford Esprit either...though I did have that Forenza t-shirt every other girl had...the one with the bright colors and the palm tree... Sadly, I pegged my jeans (what I called pinch rolling), until 1993. Not cause I was a dork, but cause I had skinny ankles......:upsidedow And I still wear Liz Claiborne perfume to this day, I don't care what anyone says!!!:rotfl:

Congrats Marika on your brown belt! Way to go!!:cool1:

Drea & E, so sorry to hear of your loss. Thinking of you.....:grouphug:

IT'S SNOWING!!!! :woohoo: I just had to tell everyone that it is finally snowing and STICKING!! We got around 2 inches tonight, not a whole lot compared to what some of you have gotten this winter, but very exciting for us!!

We have new cabin numbers.

For about $10 we went from Cat 9 to Cat 8.

Thanks, Kelly! I've made the change for you both. BTW, that's an awesome deal!!

BTW, I love your family picture on the beach that is in your signature here as well as your avatar on the website. Very nice!

What an awesome deal! The Disney website keeps laughing at me when I price out an upgrade. :rotfl:

And I second Kimberly--that picture is really touching!

Kelly--sounds like you got a great deal. We are not even loooking for an upgrade--we are excited to try out the sideways cabin:rotfl:
So before I went down to Concord today and plunked down obscene amounts of money for new passports for the kids I called DCL and double checked that I had been given correct info about them having to have passports which do not expire for 6 months after the trip (Marika's is the following Jan. and Rio's March). Their website indicated that I did NOT need to renew them and we have previously traveled to Mexico within the 6 month window. But, I wanted to speak to a real live human being and confirm as the rules seems to change nearly by the day lately. We do not need to renew before the trip:cool1: Oh I am so happy to not have to spend the time and money on that:cool1:

Hadley: Awesome! Oh, and after looking at kiddo's passport and the INS website, you're right; her passport expires 5 years after she got it. So we have 3 different dates for passports in this house, even though she and DH got them at the same time. Oh well. She'll just -have- to have another passport before we cruise on the new ships, I guess. *melodramatic sigh* :rotfl:

Oh, and if I ever start looking like my passport picture... wow. :scared1: That haircut/color did not flatter me! :rotfl:

Ya'll have a great day!
