Hey that makes at least 3 of us that homeschool Isn't it nice to be able to travel in December and not argue with a principal first?

Tammie--congratulations! Keep us posted on how the new enterprise goes.

Thanks Hadley! I speant last week kind of panicked, not knowing how to get my new life started! This week I am "On" again!

Hi, I haven't posted in awhile. I'm 56  and my DH will be 59 next month. I stay home and homeschool my DGD who is 5. My DH is pastor of a church which got flooded over the weekend up to the eaves. We live in SE Kansas and are stranded here right now. I hope the groceries hold out until the roads open up.
Cyndifan, We have your small farm. We have two horses, a pony, cats, dogs, ducks, chickens and 6 baby opossums that were orphaned. They'll be released as soon as they are old enough.
NHdisneylover, that makes 4 homeschoolers, and I sew and quilt too.
My interests are sewing and quilting, and wasting time on the internet.I play the trombone a little and sometimes do a solo at church.

Hope things are going better - how did your church end up?

I don't post that often, but I am always lurking and reading.....okay here goes: Me44, DH50, DD14 and DS12 - DH is a Captain in FDNY and I work parttime as a teacher's aide in our elementary school K thru 2. I am also a girl scout leader to my DD's troop (yes, they are still Girl Scouts - now working towards their Gold Award). My DD is very much the teenager and all that entails. She is active in school clubs, plays JV softball, Varsity gymnastics and will hopefully play volleyball in the fall. My DS is also very active..plays football in fall, roller hockey in winter and baseball in the spring and summer. He starts middle school (grade 7) in September. DH coaches my DS football team and his baseball teams. We all enjoy bike riding, going to the beach, watching movies and playing board and/or card games. DH and I will be married 20 years this October. We all also enjoy vacationing, especially at WDW and DCL. This August will be our
4th DCL cruise and next year will be our 1st 7 night DCL cruise. Can't wait to meet everyone.

Your description of your familie's activities makes me miss my DSs' childhoods! They were always in baseball, football or basketball. My DH was always coaching, mostly the basketball, and we were always at a tournament - I was always keeping score or bringing snacks! Thanks for sharing your bio!

Okay that last post was already long so here goes another to tell you about our experiences thus far with our Fresh Air Fund child who we picked up late Tuesday afternoon. Reminds me of just HOW MUCH we take for granted. (a quick recap for those who missed me type about it previously--Fresh Air Fund arranges for chidlren from low income families in NYC to spend two weeks with families in the country during the summer. They match up children and families and bring the chilrden up on busses. Many childrne return year after year to the same host families. We are hosting for the first time this year).

Our boy "D" just turned 7 last week. He lives with his single mom (29) and brotehrs 14 and 5 (yes you did that math correctly). He does have a bit more of an agressive personality than my kids (play that I really think he takes as just playing and no big deal freaks out my little guy as mean). His intentions are good and I am sure as he gets used to our rules and we get better at predicting his reactions things will run smoothly (yesterday was a LONG day with an early morning to be in a parade and a late night trying to see fireworks which is never a good way to start a bunch of kids off together!). There is just as much good as bad (if not more good) already and the boys love to play legos together.

Okay two major things stand out in our minds thus far:

1. D got in the car at McDonald's (the drop point) and did not buckle up. When asked to, he looked around quite confused and couldn't figure out how/what to do. I said something about I bet you are used to riding in the subway at home. He responded yes. He had taken a taxi once when his brother was sick but it didn't have "these things" in it. It makes complete sense--but we take riding in cars and seat belts so much for granted. Here was a 7 year old for whom this was a totally novel expereince (by the way, he still needs help with that buckle pretty much every time:) )

2. Our firend's BBQ got rained out and there was no indoor alternative so everyone had to leave. We were already halfway towards the town where our other friends live that we were going to see fireworks with. So rather than spend a half hour driving home for lunch we went to Chili's. Dave and I both got the distinct impression that D has rarely (if ever) eaten in a table service restraunt (makes sense). He kept asking where the menu was (and pointing up to where a fast food one would be) in the lobby, actually shouted with glee at chips and salsa (AFTER he learned that his corn dog would ALSO still come) and is sooooo excited to take home his kids cup.

Yep, we are lucky people to do all that we do.

Thanks for the reminder of how blessed we all are.

We are back!!! Man what a trip....Ashley stood infront of Cinderella castle and then looked down at the ducks and only talked about the ducks....:confused3 WE WERE at the WORLD and she wanted to talk about ducks..

It was really awkward..but at the end of the week she started coming around. She loved the fireworks, and even finally hugged a character. She hates rollercoasters and only wanted to ride on the merry-go-round. Maddie loved it all as usual and YES I GOT TO RIDE THE ROCKIN ROLLERCOASTER!!! The two year wait was well worth it....PS POTC has changed and included Depp.!

Funny, this sounds like my niece and nephew at the beginning of our WDW trip in June! I guess you just have to look through the eyes of a child and realize some of it is what feels familiar or comfortable for them. I kept thinking, "we came all the way to WDW...." I guess I already said that in my TR. I'm glad you had a nice trip.

Hello all, DH, DS(8), DD(8 months) and my inlaws are booked for this cruise. We booked it on our last 3 day Wonder in May.:thumbsup2

This will be our third Disney cruise.

:) More later, it's late here and I must sleep!!

Welcome Aboard!!!

Welcome back! We were there in November and saw Depp on POTC. There were some ladies in the boat in front of us that got so excited I thought they were going to fall in.:confused3 My DD was 3 at the time and she went between the merry-go-round and the It's A Small World ride. When we got home she asked Santa for her own Small World ride for our back yard - she even asked for the person sitting in the booth above the boats waving to be included in her ride. :confused3

That is just too cute!

What do you enjoy most on Castaway Cay? Have any of you rented the snorkeling gear, or participated in any of the excursions, or do you just enjoy relaxing on the beach? Since we wil have two days, wondering what is the best way to spend our time. Thanks!

Leslie

My DH and I loved going to Serenity Bay, laying in the sun, walking on the beach, snorkeling a little, and drinking Konch Koolers. We felt like we were in the most perfect place in the world. Of course we started the day with the Rasul at the spa - we arrived at the beach quite later than everyone else, completely relaxed and all set for a quiet day! :cloud9:

Here's the official warning: I'm going to whine & whimper a bit.

I broke my pinky toe this morning. Ouch!! While trying to get my daughter ready for 'school' (daycare), I caught my toe on the edge of her toy box. I did it just right to break it apparently. :sad2: After multiple hrs spent for dr visit & x-ray, I received the official word - it is broken, not sprained. At least I don't have to wear a 'boot' & there's plenty of time to recover before our cruise. :woohoo:

I know its a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but it surely does hurt at times! I sure could do w/one of the Italian Wedding Cake Martinis I've heard mentioned here. <sigh>

Ok, done w/the whining now. Thanks for the indulgence.

So sorry about your toe - Hope you are feeling better.

You both are just wonderful to do such awesome things. Hadley - your story made me cry. You are such a blessing to this boy and Rhonda - what a great ministry. I just love it!!! My great news is that my husband has a job interview within the next week or two in Lakeland - 30 minutes outside of Orlando - I am soooo excited and I bet you can guess why? Anyway, bless you both!:)

Wow! exciting! keep us posted! I would love to live near the world! WE had some really special Air Force friends from Lakeland! We somehow lost track of each other in the moves - I have tried to look them up, but haven't gotten the right number.

As I've been catching up, I realize that I have not introduced myself and family as most of you have. So without any further ado...

I'm 43 and I have been the director of a non-profit youth center for 15 years
(www.rhinosyouthcenter.org). I am very active in youth(teen) advocacy both locally and nationally. I'm a native Hoosier who's lived in Bloomington Indiana for 26 years.
I've been married to my lovely and challenging wife;) Cheryll for almost 14 years.
She is the business manager for the local parks department.
We have the most beautiful and special daughter in recorded history, Samnatha who will be 9 when we cruise.
I love her more than I could possibly express.
I also have a 24 year old stepson, AND a 24 year old daughter who has graced my with an amazing 4 year old grandson ( I don't get to see them enough. Samantha has been my redemption. Its a very long story. Look for the movie version of Lifetime soon)

Also, I have been the Host of the longest running 1 night comedy show in the country for 10 years (www.comedycaravan.com).
I am an anti-tobacco activist who helped pass a clean indoor air ordinance in my town and works with a state-wide youth led anti tobacco industry marketing campaign.
I am a musician who has toured the country in a satirical rock/comedy band.
I'm currently playing with a bunch of other old guys just for fun.
I'm also an ordained "Internet" minister who has performed 24 weddings in 8 years ( I'm 22 and 2 so far).
I also formed a comedy wrestling league that performed locally until my wife made me "retire". (FatherForce was my wrestling character's name)

I am what some of you may call a bleeding heart liberal, but I'd like to think I'm "progressive". My wife, on the other hand. is almost completely apolitical.
I believe almost fanatically in the sanctity of the Constitution.
I'm pretty cynical when it comes to pop culture, but I tear up watching movies, listening to music, and seeing WDW commericals on TV.
I love baseball. My team is the Cincinnati Reds ( shut up).
I play computer games and PS2 games. I love old Marvel Comics and think the 80's DC comic series "The Watchmen" is one of the best pieces of modern literature.

I like food and beer.

When Warren Zevon was dying of lung cancer, as a guest on Letterman, Dave asked him what he could tell him, in light of his situation, he may have learned about life and death.
Warren responded, "Enjoy Every Sandwich."

That sums it up for me.

Wow Fatherforce, you're my hero! You are doing exactly what I am hoping to do when my business grows a little! My dream is to get what I am calling a "boys and girls" club here in our town - although I don't want to go with United Way, because our hands will be tied politically - I want to be able to have the churches involved. I will have to check out your center online - could I pick your brain a little?

ROTFL This reminds me of my 26th birthday. My dad takes me out for Lobster every birthday and DH was working so we took along DD3 at the time. The waiter brought out my Lobster, and darling daughter SCREAMMED GET THE BUGGY OFF OF THE TABLE!! She had the whole restaurant looking at us. LOL it was priceless. The manager had to take the lobster back in the kitchen and deshell it for me. :rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao:

Sports? What are those? Actually Marika does like karate, arhery, tennis, rock climbing and kayaking--but none of the traditioanl team sport type things. Rio likes archery, gymanstics and wants to take fencing (he also dances which is most certainly exercise--but insisted on dropping tap the year the recital song was Take Me Out to the Ball Game becuase he "couldn't stand to listen to tajt baseball song all year long") but no ball sports AT ALL. Hurray for other science and reading enthused kids:woohoo: I can't remember, how old will your DS be on the cruise? Rio will be 9 and Marika 11.

:rotfl2: I was speaking about our "sports" above. I guess our family is the "jocks" ha! Although I was quite the Geek in high school, my DH converted me. My DS, 24 did love his video games and CAD program and Sim City more than his basketball, so I think he qualifies - can we still be on the boat???:rotfl2:

Oh please do! Make sure you get one with Lionel shaking his head in disbelief of all your cruise forecasting! :rotfl2:

You girls planning any scrapbooking overnighters? I'll be doing that next weekend as I'm going out of town to a friend's to play with paper, scissors, and "glue". What more can a kid ask for? ::MinnieMo

I'm jealous! My DILs and I did a scrapping retreat last fall, before they both got so big and pregnant - we are hoping to get back to it once baby Londynn is born - any day now!

Good evening everybody. Lot's of fun posts today! I will try to catch up.

Kimeberly--way to go recruiting more geeks for us.

Brandie--yes Rio is a huge Oingo Boing fan. He likes "Dead Man's Party" best. Careful asking Marika for book recomendations--she may never stop listing them once she starts:rotfl:

Erica--I hate to tell you this but there will probably be an 11 year old girl on the crusie taller than you are. She suddenly seemed taller to us last night, and three other people commented today that she looked taller (and she was wearing totally skinny, flat flip flops) so she may have already caught up to you (don't worry I am only 5'5" and I figure she'll be taller than me on the cruise also). Too bad they didn't measure her heighth at the ER today--which conviently leads me to today's story of the day:

The kids had gymanstics today (which, by the way, D absolutely adored). Marika managed to fall sideway into a small spot with no matt (off a spring board she was jumping hard on no less) and land with all of her weight on one wrist (and the "regular" floor is astroturf covered concrete). Needless to say she now has her first borken bone. We were at the ER for about 2 1/2 hours. This was by far the most trying expereince I have had with D (hard to be calm when one of my babies is in pain--and boy was she, fought back tears and little sharp intakes of breath with every movement, etc). He was mad that he had to leave gymanstics early and BORED and had no qualms with shouting about this, etc. After the X-rays had confirmed that her wrist was indeed broken and while we were waiting for the splint he very intentionally grabbed said wrist and squeezed with all his might (you should have heard my poor girl shriek). I seperated them as quickly as I could without harming him or causing her mroe pain and then held him restrained on my lap for about 30 seconds while I breathed slowly and deeply and coutned backwards. Once I could talk without yelling I turned him around, looked him right in the eye and used my best, ultra stern, this is not a bluff voice to let him know that if he so much as put a pinky on her, or any other injured person again he would be staying home all weekend with no computer or TV and could be bored then while Marika and Rio went and did the fun things we had planned. Thank goodness I have had years of teaching and mom experience to perfect that voice as the message seemed to get through (and luckily we only had to wait about 30 minutes after that). He may only be 7 and far from home but I do not tolerate injuring people like that. Period. Other than the ER time, it was a good day with Pizza Hut buffet for lunch, weaving class and then gymnastics and then we ended up at Outback for dinner because it was past dinner time when we left the ER and it was Marika's choice.

Hadley, I'm so sorry Marika got hurt! I wonder what set D off? Kudos to you for handling it the way you did when your baby was hurting! I hope she heals quickly!

I think I am now all caught up! There is so much to read if I miss a few days! Have a great weekend everyone!

I have to share the neatest thing that happened yesterday! I volunteer at church on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a couple of hours to bring a new ministry to our community called Angel Food Ministries (The ministry is not new, but it is new at our church). This ministry lets anyone buy a box of food for a great price. Yesterday I was there taking orders and there was a lady standing where I keep the menus. I asked if she was here to order Angel Food and she replied that she was just out for a walk with her daughter and she needed to use the bathroom. Well the lady just got laid off of work and couldn't believe her luck finding this program when she just needed to use the bathroom. There were several of us there at the time and we couldn't believe how she just happened to come into our church! She was in tears telling us how scared she was and didn't know how she was going to make it.

I hope this makes sense! I'm not sure I can put into words how big this was! By the way I go to the same church as Cindifan.

Happy Friday everyone!

Tiffany--thanks for sharing this great story! It's nice to start the morning with a smile.

Tammie--It was fun seeing you post replys to so much at once. It was sort of like a review of the thread for me;) As to what set D off yesterday: he was bored (we sat there for 2 1/2 hours with nothing to do but look at the books which we luckily had in the car from a morning stop at the library), tired (library, lunch out, weaving and gymanstic is a big day) and hungry (we had eaten lunch at 11:30 and it was 6:30 before we were through). He wasn't getting a response he wanted (leaving) just by complaining, etc. so he went for the big attention getter. I do get it--which is why I managed to remain calm. I had actaully thought about how hungry everyone would get (I had planned to take them all for a sanck between gymanstics and karate before our day was interupted) and if there had been a drive through anywhere near the Urgent Care I would have detoured and picked up a snack on the way there. But, there wasn't so we just had to cope. I'm spoiled by two kids who can drive me nuts picking on one another, but actaully have bucketsful of empathy and REALLY handle things like that well (even when they were tiny) and would never dream of hurting each other or someone else like that. They are also good "waiters" (probably because we travel so often). Rio and I tried to teach D some hand jives to pass the time but he was too tired/hungry to learn a new coping skill at that point. He HAS learned plent yof other new skills thiese past few days. We haev been reading a lot since I realized how far behind he is there and he has picked p a few new words and is gettign the use hte first letter sound and picture clues thing. Also, the child who did not know what a map was when he arrived now carry's around his USA map and loves to show everyone where New York and New Hampshire (and Texas!) are. Poor kid had no chance there--Rio is a lover of maps (I swear some AAA member could just give him a box of maps for a birthday and the kid would be estatic). D is a bright kid and ready to learn if someone just has the time/know how to work with him even a little bit.

Hadley, This program with D sounds wonderful and you are the perfect person/family to host him. I know he will have awsome memories that will last him a lifetime! Who knows the effect all of you might have on his future! I love hearing about his progress in reading too!:thumbsup2

Tammie - I haven't quite figured out how to do so many multiple posts, but it was great reading all of yours! Like Hadley said - It was a mini-update!:)

Hadley, I just wanted to pipe up and say you handled that situation in an inspiring manner. Thank you for posting that. I'm currently struggling with Fiona going through a phase of only hitting me (when she's bored or wants my attention), so I appreciate the pointer.

Brandie

That gives me chills! No doubt she was led there. Very cool story!

Hmmmm......I dunno. I mean, I've already sucked her into the world of Disney, the world of pedicures, and back into the world of tea. If I suck her into scrapbooking too, I will never hear the end of it!

That said......I will need to get back to my very soon book to finish LAST year's cruise. So many things to scrap, so little time. :rolleyes1

SOOO apparently i'm missing updates now...erica what did you do to MY updates?!?!

Um as far as scrapbooking goes..um NO. I worked in retail for several years at a place that sells scrapbooking stuff and having seen the markup on all the things involved in scrapbooking i will never bend to that habit.

And before you say...ya never know. i still haven't started collecting PINS yet have i?

I'm contemplating more parts for my potatohead though if there are any fun things :)

Oh...and BTW...

best birthday present ever today.... getting to arrive in orlando to spend a glorious 9 days with erica and lionel! WOOT!

Tiffany told me that story yesterday when I spoke to her about OUR Angel Food Order. :) It gave me cold chills then & was just as great reading about it on the boards!! BTW, I'd recommend Angel Food for anyone (anyone can order - no qualification or anything like that) - tons of restuarant quality food for not much $$. Ok, done w/the commercial now. :cheer2: I can't help myself, its such a great program.

Tiffany:
I thought you were going to be online some when you go to Oregon?? & your comment about just having to get a Venti from Starbucks - Yeah, like you NEED an excuse to go to Starbucks. Who are you trying to kid, girlie?? :) In case anyone's wondering - Tiffany & I both are self-confessed Starbucks speciality coffee addicts. Ok, well, I'm confessing........ :surfweb:

Hadley:
You are the right person & have the right family for D's 'sponsoring'. No doubt about it. Had I been in that situation, I know I would have been VERY reactive rather than cool, calm & collected. I'm glad to hear things turned out alright & hope Marika will heal fast w/very little pain.

Tammie:
I'm in awe of your thread-replying abilities! (I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy.... There isn't an icon for that, is there?)

Sarah & Erica:
Have an awesome time visiting & celebrating. Much libation involved, I'm guessing. :rolleyes1

My good news for the day:
I just sold DD's never-out-of-the-box Thomas the Train lot of stuff via Craigslist!! :woohoo: It listed for less than a day. So nice to get it out of the house & have a little extra $$.

Happy Friday everyone!

I can't do the multi quote thing either (way to go Tammie) but "Oooooh, ooooh I know this one!"
:worship: :worship:

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments about how I handled D last night. I obviously really needed to vent about it when I got home--thanks for being my sounding board all:thumbsup2 I really felt like yelling, grabbing him plenty hard enough to hurt and locking him away somewhere! But things went more smoothly today (we had a "in no uncertain terms" talk before we went down to get Marika's cast).

I paid the $50 extra for a gor-tex liner so Marika can swim, shower, etc. The cast will be on for 4-8 weeks depending on how it heals. It better be 7 or less, I don't want her to have to wear it at WDW (though my good natured kiddo said she wouldn't mind too much 'cause it would be cool to have the characters sign it :lmao: ). She actually felt up to going to karate this afternoon--so she is doing pretty well.:thumbsup2

More surprising D stories: I took the kids to the Pizza Hut buffet for lunch yesterday. As I expected D was totally in awe and excited that he could keep going back and get as much as he wanted. What I didn't expect was for him to pick up the paper napkin which was wrapped around the silverware and secured with a paper ring and ask what it was!?!:rotfl2: Man, we take the simplest things for granted. And last night at Outback it muct have taken us 5 minutes to convinvce him that the big white square of fabric was REALLY a napkin. :rotfl: The cloth napkin thing was just too much for him. Other things we discovered today that he has no experience with are rice krispie treats (I kid you not, how is this possible?) and water color paints.

We talked to Ds mom this afternoon. His 14 year old older brother had not come home Monday night and been picked up by the police 2 days later (after she filed a missing persons report). He was just out with friends. Mom said this had never happened before and she still sounded (understandably) upset. It's a good thing D is here to have missed that drama (he is not aware of it at all--I'm not going to be the one to tell him). I have to keep all this stuff in mind when I feel like throwing him through a window at the ER:goodvibes

I promise not to try and convert you to scrappin' ever again!

Okay...so I've seen postings about Mr. Potatohead parts before. Am I missing something? Do you just collect the various body parts and accessories???

That gives me chills! No doubt she was led there. Very cool story!

Ok - Ok! So I like Starbucks Coffee - and my kids can order my coffee for me :confused3 In fact I usually have to ask them to stop yelling my order from the back seat in the drive thru:lmao:

Way to go with the sale on Craigslist! Cay you say Spa Savings?

"Oooooh, ooooh I know this one!"

I love these!! I am icon challenged! Where did you find this guy?

I'm glad Marika is feeling better today - Did you make D a whole plate of rice krispies?

I'm outta here and will try to catch up while in Oregon, if I can bum a computer. (insert waving man here)

:scared1: Glad she's doing ok, that sounds like an ordeal! I can't stand the ER on a good day, let alone one like yours :guilty:

SOOO apparently i'm missing updates now...erica what did you do to MY updates?!?!

Um as far as scrapbooking goes..um NO. I worked in retail for several years at a place that sells scrapbooking stuff and having seen the markup on all the things involved in scrapbooking i will never bend to that habit.

And before you say...ya never know. i still haven't started collecting PINS yet have i?

I'm contemplating more parts for my potatohead though if there are any fun things :)

You know.......they have POTATO HEAD PINS. Just throwing that out there. :rolleyes1

Oh...and BTW...

best birthday present ever today.... getting to arrive in orlando to spend a glorious 9 days with erica and lionel! WOOT!

She'll be here in an hour! :woohoo:

Sarah & Erica:
Have an awesome time visiting & celebrating. Much libation involved, I'm guessing. :rolleyes1

My good news for the day:
I just sold DD's never-out-of-the-box Thomas the Train lot of stuff via Craigslist!! :woohoo: It listed for less than a day. So nice to get it out of the house & have a little extra $$.

Happy Friday everyone!

Now whatever would give you THAT idea? :rolleyes1 ;)
Congrats on your listing, that's great!

I promise not to try and convert you to scrappin' ever again!

Okay...so I've seen postings about Mr. Potatohead parts before. Am I missing something? Do you just collect the various body parts and accessories???

They sell Disney-themed parts now at all of the parks and DTD. I made Tinkerbell and a tourist:

Aren't they great? They sell all of the princess hair, and shoes, and lots of other stuff like a Dumbo car (instead of feet), and the Incredibles, etc etc. I might have to have an Incredible next. Lionel thinks Sarah and I are crazy. But look at them! How could you resist? :upsidedow

DH looked over and admired the Potato Heads. I'm telling you, with everyone of your posts, I get more convinced that we'll get along just fine! :thumbsup2 You keep convincing him the cruise "idea" isn't that bad! :rotfl:

Get out!!! I LOVE it! Shoot....I MUST resist another "collection"! I've never seen these before. Thanks so much for sharing!!!! As you can imagine, I highly appreciate you posting Tink. You know, you once asked if I was sure I wasn't you. I'm starting to wonder myself!

Enjoy your visit Erica, Lionel, and Sarah!! :bday:

Way to go with the sale on Craigslist! Cay you say Spa Savings?

That's what I'm talking about!:thumbsup2 Now, if someone will just buy our massage chair that's just holding clothes & gathering dust!

Now whatever would give you THAT idea?

Geeeeee.......I wonder. Let me think about that one a while <scratches head> :rolleyes1

Just one word: A-DOR-A-BLE!!!

"Oooooh, ooooh I know this one!"
D'oh! I should have looked a little harder. That's exactly what I was thinking of!

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments about how I handled D last night. I obviously really needed to vent about it when I got home--thanks for being my sounding board all I really felt like yelling, grabbing him plenty hard enough to hurt and locking him away somewhere!

More surprising D stories:

That's probably the reaction I would have had. :sad2:
Glad that Marika is doing well & adjusting.
Keep the D stories coming! They are great to hear - the good & the bad. popcorn:: Oh & the part about his older brother being gone & arrested - I can't imagine going through something like that w/a child of mine (heaven forbid). Wow.:scared:

Sarah: happy birthday. I want to be there celebrating with you.

Icons--My icon ability is limited to those right here on the DIS. All I did was click the "more" button at the bottom of the box and then scroll down (yep that is my limit).

Potato Heads--These are sold at a set price per box. You can cram a lot of parts in a box if you do not get a potato (cheaper to buy the potato at Target when you get home). If you do get the potato be sure you fill it with parts before it goes into the box. Do be sure to get plenty of hands--the "regular" hand do not hold the Disney items. Not only am I a geek--I am also a tightwad:rotfl2:

So we had an utterly geeky evening here doing one of our favourite Friday night activities: Laser Show in the dining room. Lest you are ever so slightly less geeky than us, I offer a brief set of directions:
1. Remove your speaker cover.
2. Tape a small (think quarter siezed) mirror to the woofer so that it is aimed at the ceiling (electrical tape seems to hold fairly well).
3. Place a laser pointer in a tripod and aim it at the mirror.
4. Turn the pointer on and be sure the dot from the laser pointer is showing up about mid ceiling.
5. Pop in a CD with a good, strong baseline (Blue Man Group works great), turn out the lights, crank up the volume and enjoy the show on the ceiling.
Yep, totally geeky and we love it! D seemed to enjoy it also. Oh, and KLFs the White Room track #8 had a fanbulous repeating baseline so you can show a budding young geek how the visaul and the audio are linked (you get a repeating pattern on the ceiling).

I MUST resist another "collection"! I've never seen these before.

You know, there's a place somewhere in WDW where you can get a potato body & then stuff it w/all the different kinds of body parts/accessories the inside will hold. The shop had lots of 'themed' type accessories. Then you pay just one set price. I think its in Downtown Disney, but not positive about that. Got the info either from Mousesavers.com or The Unofficial Guide.

Around Christmas this past year, there was a line of Star Wars themed potato heads, including Darth Tater. Cute, cute! My dad got one of those from me for a Chrismas gift. :)
