Today is a dancing banana day:banana: because it is LESS THAN A MONTH BEFORE WE LEAVE FOR WDW:banana:

This week's Question of the Week is not really about getting to know one another. It is someting we have nearly all thrown out there at some point, BUT now that we are getting to the point where we are all seriously thinking about packing let's get it all out there in the space of a few pages for easy reference:rotfl: What is your best packing tip? If you have cruised DCL before hopefully you have a DCL specific tip. If not, just general tips about how to get it all in, etc. are always helpful:thumbsup2

Here is my tip: bring along a "useless" card with a magnetic strip on it. You do NOT have to use your room key to lock the safe. ANY card with a magnetic strip will work and then you have to use that same card to unlock the next time. We always bring along a grocery store rewards card and stash it in an agreed upon location in the room. That way either of us can get into the safe at anytime--even if we are not together:upsidedow (not that we have found any great need for our passports when sailing, but . . .

Our Airtran flight was changed again as well!! We're now on a connecting flight coming back. What gets me the most is that I spent the extra $40 to choose my seats. Well, they are still there on my first flight and they are still there for the second leg of the return flight, but not on the first leg!! They're not getting any more of my money. I would think if they were going to put us on a connecting flight, the least they could do would be to give us our seats on both! I haven't called and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Any advice??

In better news.....

I applied for a promotion back in FEBRUARY, and right when I was supposed to get it, the whole agency went on a hiring Freeze!! So, no one, internal or external, could receive new positions. Well, it Finally came through, this week! :goodvibes I'm supposed to receive the details (i.e. SALARY!!!) from my boss, but he's out of town until next Monday! What's a girl to do?! :confused3
It's all good though, I'm just excited that it's finally coming to fruition. :)

Also, I'm starting to stress with everyone starting to pack! I know if I mention those words to my husband, it will not produce a good reaction! I guess I'll just have to try and sit on my hands for a couple more weeks. If that's possible. :lmao:

Those of you who are using Thrifty Car Rental.

Is it on site at MCO?
And is there free shuttle back from drop off in Port Canaveral back to the port?

Thrifty is not located at the MCO airport. There is a free shuttle from the Thrifty location in Port Canaveral to the ship. Tip the shuttle driver, if it is appropriate.

Yesterday was DS4's first day of Pre-K and he did great! No tears and he hardly even said goodbye to Mom! But now after his first 'school' day, he's got his first 'out of school' day because of Tropical Storm Fay. It kind of stinks because it would have been better to get right back into it today... and the storm seems to have fizzled.

HaHa...they started my 4 year old on a Monday 1/2 day, two days off then a full day....after the first full day he tells me "mommy I've done big boy school I can stay home today". Yeah...to smart for his own good that one.

Got my FE gifts in yesterday and I have plenty of extras for other people who sign up for it. I'm almost done with my FE itself (ok..a little worried....mine is going to be between 11 and 12 inches wide.....I'm hoping that isn't to big based off of Erik's dimensions and his photo......

:grouphug: to Stacy and Maureen, We are sorry for you loss!

We have had a Crazy busy last couple of days, I have been reading but not posting.

I cant believe we are 39 days from the cruise, I am getting REALLy nervous about packing, leaving my puppy, making sure everything is in order, we have never been gone for this long:scared1:

Kids start school Sept 3 and I CANT WAIT:cool1: Of course they will only be back for abiot 3 weeks before we leave but thats OK!

Cant wait to hear all the GREAT packing tips, I NEED THEM!

Fabulous QUESTION OF THE WEEK, Hadley!

I'm going to cheat and give two.

  • ZIPLOCK BAGS: Just pack the whole box! You'll be surprised at how useful they are throughout the week. From snacks-on-the-go (fruit, cheese, cereal, popcorn from Diversions, etc.) for the theatre or ports of call, to protecting things from the sand, moisture, or leaks as well as collecting all those FE goodies to take home or the confetti sprinkles from the Til We Meet Again gathering, you'll be so glad you brought them!
  • PHOTOGRAPH PROTECTION: Bring something to sandwich those precious Shutter's pics so they're protected during your travels back home. It could be sturdy cardboard in a gallon-sized Ziploc (see...another use!), a bubblewrap envelope, or something else your clever mind comes up with. For all of you scrapbookers and memorabilia collectors, you may also want something to keep the wrinkles off of your Navigator newletters.

[BTW, Hadley, if you have an idea I can help with in terms of tip consolidation, just let me know.]

Packing tips.

Bring along small 6 oz water bottle with sport cap.
Works great for flask and can be easily disguised

Bring small funnel to pour from liquor bottle into sport cap water bottle.

Jen, I saw them, and they were very cool. I think it might have worked if the slide show could have been much slower...then it wouldn't have been so "flashy". :) I'm impressed nonetheless!!

BTW, it IS good news that you have at least decided on which of the 2K magnet graphics you collected that you are going to use! That must have been a feat! I ran across 3 more this weekend that I want. So they got printed today. At some point I need to stop browsing even though I say I'm not going to buy!!

I *had* decided.....but like you I can't stop scrounging around for more backgrounds, clip art and designs. Kristine came back too and I had to hit her up..;) Also shopped the magnetic paper, it has really gone up in price. I could only find it at Staples and it was $14 for four sheets. Couldn't bring myself to buy it at that price so I will scour the internet.

Pack all the clothes you think you will need......then go back and take out half of them.

:confused3

Danielle, congrats on the promotion!
Don't stress...not all of us are packing. Its funny our first cruise I was packing like 6 weeks out. The second cruise we booked late (3 weeks out) so I started packing then. This time we probably won't even get the luggage out until the weekend before we leave....

I am off to buy my FE gifts! :rolleyes1

what?????? Your tip isn't related to packing underwear? or about underwear in general? I'm shocked. :scared1:

Well, it is about alcohol so I suppose its still fits in w/your established profile. :lmao:

If you went through Hotwire, I don't think there are any cancellations or changes allowed. Once you bought it, its yours. Double-check the mice-type though.....

We must be getting close. Yesterday we received an envelope from Magical Express with our transferes and luggage tags to get us from the airport to the Polynesian for our pre-cruise resort stay. Who-hoo.

Hey--the more tips the better--you are not cheating at all;)
I was thinking it would be great if we could consolidate all the tips in one place--but my feeble totally computer impaired mind has no idea how. I figure at least they will all be on what --30 or 40 pages:lmao: if we post them all in the same week:goodvibes

Marika has her OWN tip which she insists I post (and it is good). We tried packing nightlights or turning on the bathroom light early in our traveling career--but the light was too much and kept some of us up. Now we bring a package of glow bracelettes and hang a new one on the bathroom door knob each night. The glow helps you know where to go in the middle of the night but is soft enough for anyone to sleep through.

My DBF and I got our luggage tags and information for our pre-cruise trip in the mail the other day too! It's so exciting!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Come join us on the Sept 24th cruise!!

Drea did you get my pm from Sunday night?

Maureen

I forget.

Which day do we get the extra hour of sleep?

GC or Cozumel.

Both? We are going from Eastern Daylight Savings to non DST Eastern Standard Time Zone (Grand Cayman) to Central Standard Time (Cozumel).

Anyone know for sure?...I am just assuming.

WOW Look at those FL Residents rates for 9/25 cruise....:rolleyes1 That just may be too good to pass up. Of course Ron has no extra vacation time and I have only one spare day, plus the extra time out of school for the kids, but still.....
