And call me a moron...but what happened in 2004 to teach such a big lesson? I mean, OK, hurricane, but was it a bad one or a first? Sorry I don't remember....I'm deep in the heart of Texas and hurricane news seems so far away! :umbrella: :sail: :boat:

I believe that was Charley and yes, it did ALOT of damage and fast.. but people were warned but couldn't prepare for the strength and floods

Stacey and Maureen, my thoughts are with you and your family's big hugs:hug:

Also all you Fl residents keeping you also in my thoughts that it all blows over!:lmao:

Oh and Jen, I totally missed when it was a slide show.. how NEAT!

You have to come home and I have to head to FL for a funeral if Fay will let me. My uncle passed away suddenly on Saturday night and they live south of Tampa Bay. E/T is on hold until Fay passes.

Maureen

Maureen - so sorry to hear about your loss. :grouphug:

We're doing a pirate party for my 3 year old dd on the 20th of September. I am SO going to use this idea for her cake!!!! Thanks for the idea. We decided to to the pirate theme since we're going to be dressing up a little over a week later in those costumes, so we're telling everyone to dress up for her party. I think it will be fun. Now, I wonder if I can find some pink pirates for that little ship ....

.

Check out Oriental Trading company...they had all kinds of 'girly pirate' stuff. CUTE CUTE things that would be perfect for her party and are not expensive at all.

Not one, but FOUR. Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne all hit Florida. C, F & J all came across our area. Charley was the strongest of the bunch, as it intensified rapidly once it got into the Gulf, and made an unexpected turn before landfall (was supposed to come across in Tampa instead cut into the state south of us). For us Frances and Jeanne were much more of a headache than Charley. We lost some shingles and had to do a lot of yardwork. Didn't realize about the shingles until we got a leak....:sad2:
Of course that's the worst this area has had itin recent history. We haven't had a serious storm come through since 1969. Threatened by Elena in '86 but she stalled and then split. We always say this area is immune;) ...they're always forecasted to come through here then go somewhere else! I hope our luck holds out!

It was cool, but just too busy. My eyes hurt looking at it, and anyone on dialup probably couldn't load the page! :rotfl2:

Stacy and Maureen...thinking of you. I hope your travels are safe.

You may know that the last time a Hurricane came right up into Tampa Bay was in the 1920's. The tide surge was such that most of South Tampa was flooded. The flooding came all the way up to what is now Kennedy Blvd.. which is where I'm sitting right now. So yes, I also hope our immunity holds out!!! Best of luck to all!!!

On a brighter note, in about 39 1/2 days or so, I'll be sneaking out of the stateroom early, leaving the slumbering DW and Kiddo, to go up to Goofy's Galley to get freshly baked Stollen bread and fresh berries for Pre-breakfast!!

Yeah, that about sums it up. Central Florida had always gotten off pretty easy compared to the coastal areas to the east and west of us. Even when we found out Charley was heading straight for us (it made a sudden turn with only a few hours warning for most of us) everyone was pretty calm about it. Usually the worst we got was a scattering of tree branches and a few missing shingles. But Charley knocked out power for weeks for some people (our apartment lost it for 10 days) and destroyed a lot of property. It had gone down to a category 1 by the time we got it, and the aftermath was just......insane. The next morning everyone in the complex was walking around in a daze. Our "wood view" apartment became a "lake view" overnight! And of course we had NO supplies. I think we are peanut butter sandwiches and warm soda for a week. Those cold showers were the worst, though!

Here's hoping Fay behaves herself. :thumbsup2

Hi All !!
Checking In again

Spoke with my brother and Key West is safe and sound.. He said it really wasn't bad at all.. so my mind has 1 less thing to worry about right now.. Not too sure why the weather channel is saying it is still 70 miles away from Key West though :confused3

Still no cabin # :confused3

hmm.. is that because you didn't pay for your cruise yet? or did you pay and the special with the Credit Card means you just don't pay a credit card bill for 6 months?

That's how we are. Because of where we live in relation to Lake Ponchatrain we are always evacuated if it appears that a storm is going to hit. Usually we just get some very minor wind damage but we always try to be prepared for a storm anyway. I'm hoping that we won't have one this year (or if we do it will be a 'baby' Cat1).

We don't have one either. I think its because we said we would happily be paitent until the cruise :lmao: now I'm going nuts wondering where my 'home' for a week will be. I know that someone said when they have done the GTY status before they were assigned rooms about 30 days out, so I'm hoping that next week I'll find out our room number.

We have Rain !!!! not so much wind yet but we got rain... Winter Garden..

and on another note... GRRRRR..... I am soooooo MAD at Spirit airlines right now... I booked our flight for this cruise on August 1st for 9 people.. Well Today the price is $306 cheaper!!!!! :headache: Oh and Spirit doesn't give credit back to previous booked flights!!!!

oooooooooo Ok yea, I heard that too and I am waiting for 30 days or less to see is we are getting our Palo for 9 adults.. :confused3

That's the same thing I've read on the main boards - rooms assigned 35-30 days out. Should be soon.

Stacey and Maureen:
So sorry for your losses. Our prayers & thoughts are with you during the difficult days/weeks/months ahead.

Strange - I was on the weather channel.com and it shows that Fay hit Key West around 3PM. It's still a Tropical Storm and not very well formed so most of what she brings is a LOT of rain. They say that she still could turn into a Hurricane after passing Key West and before she hits the coast of FL.
Hope everything is nailed down!!!

Thanks for the history lessons, everyone! I do remember hearing about Charlie now that you mention it....

Oh that just stinks! But, at least you got your seats booked and didn't have trouble finding tickets for 9 people. That would have been much worse!

OK, I know we've covered this, but somone throw me a bone...

What transportation company are you using to get from the airport to the port?

Thank you friends ;)
