Denise, so sorry about your experience on the other thread. For what it is worth, I am the Chairman of the School Board for my children's school and work very closely with the principals. I am taking my kids out of school for the cruise and a couple of days the week before for some pre-cruise fun. I believe that this is absolutely appropriate (in particular given that school will only have been in session for a couple of weeks) and can be very educational. The principlas and teachers in our elementary schools agree and, for the most part, value the opportunity for families to have these kind of bonding experiences.
In our system, all that is asked is that you talk to the teacher ahead of time to discuss any make-up work and any concerns the teacher may have a couple of weeks prior to the absence. The aim is to make sure everyone is on the same page with respect to any make-up work and so that parents are aware if the student is already behind and the trip may exacerbate the problem.
I love your attitude. You are the mom, you know what is best for your kids and it sounds to me like you take responsibility for their education. This is all any school can ask. Good educators will value this and be happy to work with you.
AMEN SISTER!![]()
That guy is an A$$. I literally laughed out loud when he wrote "o.k. not trying to start a problem here, but............."![]()
PA-LEASE! Trying to start a problem was EXACTLY what he was trying to do. What a pompous jerk.

Many people on the DISboards are willing to personalize some graphics to make magnets from or share a generic graphic. Cyndifan gave you very good direction by going to the Creative DISigns Forum. Also, in Post #1, we have a link to a list of some of the popular creative threads where many get their magnets. That would be a great place to start. Of course there are others who are simply a creative genius with all the right software tools to make their own designs. Sometimes something as simple as Word or PowerPoint will work, too.
How to make them? Several options. You can buy magnetic paper that you either run through your printer or you can glue your graphic on paper to the magnet. You could laminate paper and put magnetic strips on the back, or even use a page protector, slip your graphic in the sleeve, and add the magnetic strips on the page protector. Magnetic paper can be found on-line, at Michael's Crafts, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, and I'm sure many other stores.
Does that help??
Now...if I can only settle on just a few graphics...and not totally plaster my door on the cruise...
Shell, DD's autograph book is awesome!!! What a wonderful keepsake!
I also love the negative from your Cricut cuts! Since you're offering, I would LOVE to have one!! I don't have the Cricut Expression, so I can't get the full 12x12...I'm stuck with the original Cricut.
VERY CUTE! LOVE IT.. ok if you want you can "BORE" me and email me all the pages I love seeing that stuffgreat job!
GREAT IDEA for a background.. oh wait this would mean I would HAVE to scrap lol
Told the boys teachers at back to school night, and they both thought our vacation sounded just heavenly! J's teacher (1st grade) said she will get some independent studying stuff together for me. P's teacher (4th grade) said she would get whatever they were working on for that week but nothing much at all..Told her we were planning on having him read for hit 30mins a day along with keep a journal of the day and she said PERFECT. He can come back and give an oral report about his vacation...he was right there and sort of made a face.. so she said OR you could WRITE a 5page report on it. HE perked up.. an oral report sounds great, Ill even bring in any suviners I get to share1 more crisses averted
!
Shell that is gorgeous you are very talented!! She will just love it!
That is so cute!

Shell: I love the book!!![]()
LOVE THE Scrapbook Shell!
What? Not plaster the door! Seriously, I was thinking about starting a new thread on the cruise board to ask if anyone has actually measured the door! I've started compiling my door signs in Power Point and plan to print them on glossy photo paper and put magnet strips on the backs. Then when the cruise is over I have instant Scrapbook material! (I have to admit I'm like Drea and collect stuff with the good intentions of putting books together)I have signed up to meet with a group of scrappers once a month - Perhaps this will get me going!
SOOOOOO. . . Interesting week here!
Grady takes the bus to and from school and the plan was that Megan will start taking the bus by the second week of school. But, the district changed our bus stop from in the cul-de-sac where we live to the stop sign down the street. I can't see the bus stop from my house, nor can I hear the bus coming so I will know when to step outside. Our bus stop has been in the cul-de-sac for 4 years - Why cange it now????
Well, Tuesday I went to the principal in charge of busses and told him about the change and he said it would be an, "easy fix" because it was a, "safety issue". I also submitted the request in writing and he turned it into the bus garage. Wednesday morning I walked Grady across the street to our normal bus stop, in the cul-de-sac and waited for the bus. She pulled into the cul-de-sac, but told me she had not received any word about the change. I called the school, but they never called me back.
I thought the fact that they did not call me back was an indication that all was OK, so Thursday morning I walked Grady to the bus stop again. This time when the bus pulled up they did not pull into the cul-de-sac, but instead turned the bus around and just before leaving stopped and opened the door for the kids. We were about 100 yards or more away from where she was stopped. I told the kids to make a run for it and I would call the school and find out what was going on, but before they had made 10 steps she shut the door and left!!!!!! She left Grady and my little neighbor girl standing there. I went straight to the school to talk to the administration and so far have called the bus supervisor for our area, emailed the Superintendent and the Bus Superintendent too. I'm seriously considering letting the local news in on this one also! I just can't believe she just left them!!!! And I know she saw us because we could see her looking at us through the open doors. Well, needless to say I am now driving my children to school!
Thanks for letting me vent!
Oh, and I've had vertigo all week too!![]()

RUNNERS: The DDD Walkers have decided on an official start time each morning (7:45 on Deck 4). If you runners want to come up with a meeting time, I would be happy to add it to Post #1 for you. Just let me know!

Wanna know what's sad?? I've been 'scrapping' for several years now with my friend Kerrie - if she heard me ask that question she would keel over......Now...if I can only settle on just a few graphics...and not totally plaster my door on the cruise...
Got one with your name on it, Kimberly!
Val, you're tripping me out with the new Avatar! I keep thinking "a new friend has joined us!".
