So who's starting this vacation the earliest? I know Hadley and Erik leave before September 20, which is when a handful of us are leaving, present company included. It might also be Tania. It it you & the boys who start this party first?? When are you leaving New Zealand?

Kimberly - We leave NZ the evening of 22nd, which is the 21st US time. We arrive LAX on the 22nd (lunchtime, which my kids think is really funny - arriving before we leave ). We fly to Florida on the 23rd . I think Lois is also leaving around the 20th.

Heather - looking forward to your email . I like hot tea, although just boring normal tea like English Breakfast.

Seriously...that is the cutest magnet! Where do you people come up with these magnets?? How do you make/get them? This will be our 5th DC and we've only had our Castaway Club magnet on the door and after seeing all the cool stuff everyone else is doing I want to be in on the action...!!!

Yep. The kids are telling everyone they are time travelling - going back in time .
Although when we come home we miss a whole day like it doesn't exist (leave on a Sunday, get back on a Tuesday - where'd Monday go ).

Thanks guys...all the encouragement helps alot. You know we are veterans of this now...I've lived here all my life and you sort of get used to some of this after a while. The storm is still several days out so we are in a 'wait and see' status right now. When we all get on the cruise I'll be able to laugh and tell stories about it but at this point....Sept 27th can't get here quickly enough.


OHHH and I can tell you this....you will NOT SEE me drinking 'hurricanes' on the trip.

Maybe we should notify the crew on the Magic to do away with 'hurricanes' for our cruise!!!!

Seriously, I keep seeing the path and hoping it strays away from the gulf. I mean they had a lot of trouble predicting Fay and she did what she wanted to do anyway, so just hoping

BTW, if you do need to evacuate for any length of time, you better let me know if there is ANYTHING that I can send you to help out while you're away from home or once you return. Denise, I to you! I LOVE your response on YOUR thread found on the main board inquiring about letters for schools to the Off-Topic posters. It was brilliant. I'm not quoting exactly here, but the "Wow...I thought so many people wanted to help me" was an AWESOME statement.

Besides the point that no one needs to interject their insulting opinions, I hate it when I go to a thread with an interest in a topic, and it turns into something else with a sprinkling of those who actually address the OP...so you wade through pages and pages to get info you were seeking. Great comeback!

What I think is REALLY sad is that someone felt that they had to PM you an example instead of posting it because they thought that it would be against the grain of those who felt they had to be judgemental of others and potentially get flamed. Sad.

Here I was going to PM and thank you for sticking up for me, you always know the right thing to say, it was nice to have a friend on that thread with me I truly did think everyone was trying to help when I saw the responses! The funny part is and maybe some will think this is wrong, I DONT care if the abcenses are excsed or not and I wasnt asking if I should be taking them out or not, the last time I check I was the Mom I agree, the woman who PM'd me did eventally post her letter she is Itutorfortravel, we have had some PM's going back and forth over the craziness. Had I thought it would end up that way I wouldnt have posted, I just wanted a letter not opions :::::::::::: stepping off my soapbox now:::::::::::::::::::: Times like that I wish I did homeschool!

Anyone here like hot tea? Totally random question...I KNOW...but I was just making myself a cup of tea & the Yogi teas I just looooove. Curious if anyone else has a favorite type. Always looking to try new stuff

I am a tea JUNKIE. Seriously. I have an entire cabinet devoted to loose leaf tea, most of which I either get from adagio.com or englishteastore.com (the former sells samples for about $3 that last for about 10 cups, the latter sells giant bags for the same price). My favorites? Hmmm......I love love LOVE "French blend" which is Earl Grey with some extra spices plus lavendar and rose petals. It's awesome. I also really like the strong black teas like Scottish Breakfast. And Monk's Blend, which they also started recently selling in the Yak and Yeti shop at AK: it's black tea plus cherry and vanilla.

Don't get me started. You think I'm addicted to ebay? Come see my teapot collection.....

I was suprised by all the negativity on that thread. It amazes me how rude some of the people are !! I have teachers tell us all the time, I wish we could take off time and go to Disney off season, it is so much cheaper etc.

at our school there is no letter, just a vacation request form. it has to be signed by the principal. I have heard he will make a fuss for some, mine hasnt been a problem. The teachers have been good about not giving too much homework. ( we had the same looping teacher for 4 years, she just asked the girls to write a journal everyday.)


Valerie: I am sorry but I had to laugh about the hurricane drink comment. Never even thought about it...just stick with the Miami Vices. hope everything goes okay with your family etc.

I have read this thread. All I can say is WOW! I find it amazing how a simple question turns into a debate with people not actually answering the original question. I'd hate to thinnk what they'd they say about us taking our kids out of school for 12 days. And they have already had 6 days in April too. Luckily here we don't have too many rules about taking time out for trips. and my kids don't have to make up any work. My DD's teacher asked if I wanted some work to take & DD said NO. She laughed & said she completely understood.

Sorry all...this is what I get for reading my "home" emails and the DIS while working.. I then save stuff to get back to when I get home, and by the time I GET home.. I forget about it.. please dont take it to heart. If it makes yall feel any better I just found and email from my aunt asking for something from March HOPE she doesnt get mad LOL

I'd hate to thinnk what they'd they say about us taking our kids out of school for 12 days. And they have already had 6 days in April too. Luckily here we don't have too many rules about taking time out for trips. and my kids don't have to make up any work. My DD's teacher asked if I wanted some work to take & DD said NO. She laughed & said she completely understood.

Believe me, they probably have a LOT to say about the homeschoolers that some of us are. They just want to complain and fuss because they have to have their panties in a wad about *something*. Such is life. We all have to do for our kids what we believe is best. I believe that my kids will get a wonderful education about the countries and areas we're visiting. It's irreplaceable, in my opinion. Ah ... but there we go with opinions, again.

To those taking their kids out of school - I don't blame you one bit. This will be a fantastic experience for you and your families. Kudos for you having the guts to go against the system.

Hey I took my youngest out of school her senior year to go to Las Vegas. You should have seen the note for that one and she graduated 7th in her class and went on to graduate tops in her college class.

The timing was the craziest thing when we flew to and from Australia! We left Sydney at 6:30 am, the sun set, it was dark and it rose again and we arrived in LA at 6:30 am their time! LOL!!!! It's crazy how the timing thing works!

I'm so worried about everybody regardless of where Gustav is heading. At least we know that if a hurricane/tropical storm starts up when we're on the boat, Disney will keep us safe.
