My son is a Christmas baby. He is turning 3 this year and we r holding his brithday next weekend. Not many kids [3 infact and few adults]. Now I do not have to worry over invites and decorations [DH is doing that] but the cake is my department. Till today I had thought I would order a store bought cake with dora deco. Now my son's best friends mom made him a cake for his brithday last week so my son now wants me to bake a Dora cake for him. Now I have never baked mych but I looked up some deisgns on the net and have a basic idea of what I will be making. Now here is what i want help about

1. For the Dora/Boots/Swiper and if possible Diego figures on the cake should I use plastic figurines? Where can i get them? [ONLINE is not an option as not enough time left]
2. Where can i get those transferable edible images which can be transferred to the cake?
3. If anyone has done a Dora themed cake what colors did u use i mean the Dora pink and green. Did u use white frosting with edible colors or do u get them readymade?

Ok lets start with these question and see how it goes from there.

In the past I have seen a set of small Dora toys at Walmart or Toysrus. I think they come 3 or 4 figures in a pack. You could also check the bakery dept. at the store, very often they will sell you the decoration kit they use for a couple of dollars.

I can e-mail you a picture of the one I made a few years ago. I used a Dora candle and used Fisher Price figuires for Boots and Swiper. You can get them at Wal-mart, Kohls, etc.

I made a rectangular cake and used green, purple and pink Wilton colors. I made a "path" out of crushed graham crackers and did lollipop forest, chocolate lake and m&m mountain.

Our local grocery store (Giant) has some Dora cakes that they do as well.

You can get a dora cake pan at Hobby Lobby, or Michaels maybe even Walmart, and they sell the icing kits also that have the colors you need to use. If you can pipe a simple star with Wilton tip 16 then you can make that cake. You will also nee tip 3 to outline the figure but it is soooooo easy.

go to this website( you might have to create an account) it is FREE

cakecentral.com and search DORA..there are 2 pages worth of Dora cakes

good luck and I am sure anything you make for him he will aboslutely love it!!!

Sounds like you've already gotten lots of good ideas. I just wanted to add that when my ds turned 3, I bought a Wiggles cake kit from the Wal-Mart bakery for $5. I baked my own cake, but the kit I bought had the decorations for it (big red car, Wiggles logo 'flag', stick balloons and music note sprinkles). Just ask at any bakery that has a Dora cake if you can buy the decorating kit.
