Don't yell at cast members

I appreciate the spirit of this thread.

Guests can come complain to me without actually yelling at me.

I've been yelled at because Guest's did not have the park hopper option and wanted to use and extra day to park hop.

I've been yelled at because major attractions ran out of fastpasses.

I've been yelled at because there were no dining reservations left.

I've been yelled at because a child was (obviously) too short to ride an attraction.

I have been yelled at for the price of luggage carts at the airport.

I've been yelled at because Guests were stuck and evacuated from an attraction (justifiably frustrating) after I gave them fastpasses for any attraction to make up for their time.

So thank you for all of you who are taking the time to support us not being yelled at for simply doing our jobs correctly, doing our best to fix service breakdowns and trying to make things a little more magical for our Guests :goodvibes

I remember when I was a kid, we were at MK for rope drop, over by the way to Liberty Square. This guy started screaming at the CM about how it was &$^^@*% that they wouldn't let people in the rest of the park, what the (&#% was wrong with the CM for not letting him go through, how he thought the CM was getting off on how much power he had, how the CM must feel like a big man for telling families they can't go into the park, etc etc. Just constant verbal attacks to this CM for not dropping the rope early. Then we heard over his radio that a stampede of people had overcome the rope attendant at Fantasyland and they had gotten through, the herd of the people of which we saw run by on their way to Splash or BTMRR I'm sure... And this guy lost his mind and just swore up and down at the CM, threatening to beat him up, etc etc. It's been like 20 years since that happened, I still remember it vividly. Another example of a guest acting poorly and not considering how that impacts the experiences of those around him.

This last time, we saw:

*A lifeguard getting screamed at by a parent for ejecting their child because they were peeing against a tree...

*A woman at 50's Prime who could have been my grandmother getting screamed at, I mean SCREAMED at, because there were no tables left for the day... It was raining, he was hungry, all other places to eat were full, what the f was he supposed to do, etc etc...

*A man who screamed at a front gate official at AK for letting people in for the Tusker House breakfast while he had to wait, which apparently wasn't fair because he just wanted to go get a FP for EE...

*A family yelling at a costumed CM because they wanted their table visited first because they had "things to do" and when the handler said no, they freaked on the costumed CM when they came by

*A man at CP going up to Tigger and demanding (I kid you not) he bounce on his tail and when he didn't, loudly saying that "he gets it" and that the whole thing was bull*. When he was told he had to tone it down or leave, we all heard how far he came and how much he was spending and that they just had to deal with his behaviour because it's what he's "paying to do."

*A guy yell at us, my fiance and I, because at Tusker Mickey came and did a full-on little silly production with us and how it was unfair because he had kids with him and we didn't so Mickey should just go to their table

*A person yell at a bus driver for driving too fast. Another at another time for going too slow. Another at another time for seating a scooter and his party of 20 who had just walked up to the bus while the line of 200 or so had been waiting several minutes...

It goes on and on.

Honestly, I think it's a sign of the death of the considerate consumer. People believe that spending money not only entitles them to a good or service, but it is a waiver from decent behavior. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "I spend good money here, so..." I wouldn't need to work.

The one chuckle I always get is when you hear "Well I'm never coming here again." Every, single time I've ever heard it, it's always been from somebody we would love to have never come back again. :D

:thumbsup2 We tell our kids that as soon as they are able to get a job they are getting one in retail. It's a good learning experience.

LOL..luv it! We live within walking distance to several chains and local businesses and I tell my sons all the time...when you're 14...get a job! It isn't just the money...it is the life long experience that comes with it!!!!!

I blame the people who complain about the people who return outside the FP window.

I blame the people who complain about the people who complain about complaining about the late FPers. I'm pretty sure Universal execs are behind it.

After being a CM for a year and a half now, I don't know how many times I've been yelled at by guests.

Most of the times its because I wouldn't let them into a show... but they showed up 10-15 minutes AFTER the show started. I'm not going to let you in late when I've already turned away a bunch of people.

And if you are rude to me and yell at me? I'm not going to try to accommodate you at all. If you are super nice, act respectfully to me, then I'll see what I can do... maybe give you VIP seats for the next show, or something like that. But if you are rude? Yeah, not getting anything from me except a fake smile and a 'have a magical day!'

I’m a firm believer that EVERYONE should have to wait tables for 6 months; it gives people a totally new appreciation not only for people waiting tables but also for anyone in customer service.

I am sorry to tell you that this does not necessarily work. A friend of mine worked as a waitress for six months (or more), but this did not make her more compassionate even to other waitresses. Fortunately she wasn't loudly rude, so I never saw her yell at anyone, but she expected perfection and would gripe when she didn't get it. Worse, she didn't tip, even when she had no complaints! :confused3 I'd tip for her and she'd say it wasn't necessary (although at least she didn't go so far as to snatch up the waitress's tip money, which I've seen others do :sad2: ).

If you're the center of the world, then you're the center of the world, I guess. :p

Now there's a difference between yelling at a Cast Member when they deliberately are being rude, and another for doing something they're supposed to do, but you don't like it. An example of this would be child too short, ride broke down, Faspasses gone, etc.

After being yelled at for ridiculous things, no wonder some CMs arent so magical at the end of the day ;)
I saw a bus driver get yelled at because they got on the wrong bus.
I saw a lady scream at the GG people cause there was no tables. They had to walk her out, and were keeping an eye out for her return. Geeeez...
but there are sooo many great CMs that put up with this crap and still smile at my kids. That makes it :)

:thumbsup2 I'm always amazed on how people treat others in their quest of 'me, me, and more me' I'm more than willing to give people a pass for a moment of insanity or when the day has been long and they are loosing it. I think every person has a moment where later on they regret doing what they did, or how they handle a situation. However, there is a huge difference between a moment of insanity and just being rude on a regular basis. Believe me after so many years working with the public you get to know the difference.

I see people yelling at CM's often and what gets me is sometimes they yell at things that had nothing to do with the CM.

I used to be a CM.

Most CM's (when I worked which was some time ago) earned minimum wage and worked while other have days off including holidays. I washed strollers, sold hats, served fast food, and dealt with unhappy guests on occasion. It's hard work like any job and you have your good days and your bad days. I learned how to be diplomatic and I learned that wasn't what I wanted to do with rest of my life career wise.

I don't yell at CMs even when given attitude. Some people do regardless and it is in some ways a power trip.

Oh and I got yelled at one time because there were too many Brazilians in the park cutting in line and I was merchandise.

:sad2:

Oh and I also realized that BTMRR is a great stress reliever.:woohoo: Really it is.:thumbsup2

I agree. People don't know how to act nowadays. No respect or courtesy. I also agree that everyone should have a customer service related job just to see how difficult it is.

Unfortunatley, the lineup for BTMRR could be the cause of the stress.:lmao:
