Don't Hate Me for Knowing More

Well, I have to say that the first thing that comes to mind is an alternate meaning to the word mad...perhaps "insane" or "rabid". That said, on our Thanksgiving 2007 trip, I was completely blown away by the number of angry people at WDW, particularly MK. Yelling at children, raving about their children's bad behavior to any (poor soul) in earshot. I think that people spend a lot of money (even off site guests) to go to WDW and some expect to have the red carpet rolled out for them. They forget that they (probably) are here for the children in the first place. I am definitely one who will step to the shorter line and always have my ears perked up to hear "I'll take someone over here"-- although I always try to prod the person in front of me to go first. The sense of entitlement is astonishing (me first! me first! even if I came too late...) and the rudeness when you play by the rules-- FP, dual lines, etc. is sad. What does make me sad is to see children dragged along, yelled at for being tired at a 10 p.m. dinner or hit... yes, saw that too... Sometimes I am afraid it is the times we have come to live in. I for one am all for holding my own, but am happy to pass along (or receive) any unused FP or a sweet space for the parade

I usually do this, too. I was surprised the other day at the Electric Umbrella when the cashier took three orders from the other line before taking mine. (I'd walked up to an empty side.) I guess he'd been-there-done-that and didn't want to deal with the drama. Usually, they'll take you next to keep both sides of the counter even.

We actually had the same experience at Electric Umbrella as well during the Pop Warner week. There was a group of kids, each ordering his own meal and paying for it, but the CM took the group individually, then took mine. I didn't really mind, but it was really crowded in there and all that did was cause a bigger back up.

...the mother got a bit upset....So I stopped and asked the CM if just the kids could ride up front he said yes...So I went and got the other family and our kids and there kids rode up front and we were in the cab right behind them....They mom thanked me over and over...I just told her no worries, we are all here for the kids....My oldest just smiled and said Dad that was very nice of you...I hope it rubed of on him some....

That was really thoughtful of you; a great way to display a gesture consideration for the kiddos to see...it's scary how many parents yell and carry on right in front of the kiddos (not just at WDW) without realizing what they're doing to them.

i will admit that i can be kind of sassy back to people who are rude to me, so to the guy who called us cheaters, i just turned and called back, "cheapskates!" which wasn't nice, i know, but it was my birthday so i was feeling especially spoiled.

I'm so thankful to have read this thread...the constant reminder that there will be 'not so nice' people at WDW too and I need to just relax and enjoy our vacation.

O.K. guys - keep your knowledge coming. We are planning our 3rd trip in 4 years in June and I have this long list of WDW tips. I have earned the nickname of WDW guru where I teach because I live on the Dis boards trying to soak up every tidbit of information I can to make our trip better. Everytime you mention something that is not on my list - I go back and add it. So far I have added to the list about fast pass lines at Soarin', taking the resort monorial into MK if the express line is long, look for the shorter line in the corner at Electric Umbrella (one of our favorite CS) etc..

A lot of the threads about WDW tips are park knowledge about hidden Mickeys, waking up Tinkerbell and other trivia. You guys are throwing out the stuff that makes that trip run smoother and easier !!

My husband and I are no strangers to rude people at WDW. We have been told twice (on two separate days, by two separate women) that we should allow them and their children to go ahead of us in line because we have no children. Literally, they were both pushing their strollers along in line and commenting that since we were without children, we should have to wait longer and allow them to board the ride first. Once was on the Winnie the Pooh ride at MK and once was on It's a Small World.

I'm also no stranger to the rude teenagers! We took 40 of our graduating 8th graders to Grad Jam last year. While our students were well-behaved (at least, every time we saw them, they were behaving and we had no complaints about them...) we saw TONS of other rude kids. They talked non-stop through all the rides, cut in line, etc. I mean, there really was no reason to cut because it's Grad Jam and there are no lines, but they were doing it anyway. It was especially annoying on ToT because I like how creepy that ride is and the kids were just blah-blahing the whole time. When my (usually loud and immature) 8th graders are annoyed at other 8th graders, you know they must be REALLY annoywing!

On the ride switching issue, I think more people wished the knew about that one! My sister is six years younger that me, so it was a program my parents took advantage of when we went to Disney. I don't remember ever getting any rude comments, but I was ten years old so I wouldn't have been paying attention. And this was long before the Internet, but my parents were avid readers of the Birnbaum Disney books, so they knew all the "tricks" even before Dis!

Well, yeah. It's also the ride where one woman following the instructions of a CM and filling in all available spaces was viciously attacked by another woman!

This happens constantly at Citizens Bank Park in Philly (where the Phillies play!). People don't realize that you can go to the other open cashiers!! It boggles my mind.

I am also of the FP machine hunters, and regularly go to the furthest one to get my FPs quicker..the DBF and I have almost gotten into quite a few fights by other annoyed guests who didn't realize, yes, ALL of the machines work!

This is totally not even a Disney problem. It boggles my mind how often this happens in the real world too. The walmart I work at has about 12 lines and for some reason people always jump in lines 10-12. Even if there is a super long line and there are cashiers completely free if they walked a little further. Christmas Eve I was at register one and kept telling people that I had no line and people would just stare at me. So I was like okay then keep waiting in your super long lines. I even had people come up while I was telling people I was open with no line and ask are you open?

my favorite way to start the morning is showing up to a park with huge lines at the turnstiles and noticing a line that is completely empty with nobody waiting. many newbies will disregard this line as closed or broken, but i absolutely love watching the faces on those guests as i run right into the park with no wait at all

My husband will always say (as we pass all the fools waiting on line on the RIGHT side of the entries) "They always say go to the left for no line, its such a RIGHT handed society" Usually people follow us in!

In thinking about this, since I'm going solo in March, I think I would be tempted to say to someone that made this sort of comment "Thank you for rubbing my nose once again in the fact that I am barren. So not only is it not enough that I CAN'T have children, but you think I should be penalized further for it???"

.......encountering ramdomingly "silly people" at WDW since like when I encounter the VERY SAME type out on the open road while driving my car, I just simply slow down, get over a lane & let them pass me....as they are driving recklessly, over the speed limit,etc.
I mean hey, there is no such law against people acting like morons huh? So let THEM be the moron here while YOU go on about your day..."Moron Free" while YOU ENJOY your day at WDW.

My family was driving up to our house the day after Christmas and encountered the infamous "I have got to be faster & flashier than you" driver (not a wise mantra to have on New Hampshire highways).

My sister was driving, and she just moved over, (after he rode her bumper for a few miles) and stayed to the right of the other driver from that point on, shaking their heads as he sped off into the distance (weaving in and around others as well).

They saw that driver soon afterwards--pulled over by a NH State Trooper.

Oh yes - the knock down drag out in the line at Mad Tea Party - she is from the same city where I live. It was well talked about for weeks around here because it made the front page of the paper. Don't know her and we all were relieved to find out her children were not in our school system. She is not one I would want to meet up with in a parent conference without a bodyguard !! That topped the list as far as totally unacceptable behavior goes !!

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm a little guilty of this. In March 07, we got FP's for Splash Mt. We walk up to the FP entrance about 5-10 minutes into our FP window and there is a line to Kingdom Come and the CM wasn't letting anyone in! We check with the people around us and they are all WAITING for their FP window to open! So, I took my friend, marched to the front of the line and the CM let us in in front of the line that was already queued up. I didn't think anything of it but she said as we were moving along the queue "You just got a lot of dirty looks" I said "Well...then they obviously don't understand the rules..."

It's happened again to us at EE but I refuse to feel guilty about it. I thought the whole idea of FP was that you don't HAVE to wait in line?

My story is slightly different. I'll admit I was rude.

We had a photo shoot at the Grand Floridian with my large, extended family. There was eleven of us total. For those who don't know about the phoot shoot, you get 20 minutes with a photographer at certain resorts.

We took pictures on the staircase and proceeded outside for photos of the resort as the background. We all got into formation by the photographer. Then he just stood there. I turned around and there was a woman putting a stuffed animal on a bush. She started to take pictures of the stuffie, with her rear pointed in our direction. We waited, thinking she didn't see us, but she looked up and seemed to adjust the stuffed animal in the photographer's suggested direction for the best view of the hotel in the background.

She kept taking pictures, then her daughter? and granddaughter? showed up and she sat the child next to the stuffed animal and proceeded to take more pictures. The dozen of us just stood there in disbelief! I couldn't believe it! A stuffed animal has endless patience for picture taking. A dozen people to pose can be a nightmare!

I finally said, "please we have limited time with the photographer". She ignored us a few more minutes, but then walked away, making nasty gestures and saying stuff (luckily she was out of hearing distance before she let loose).

The photographer was very gracious and gave us an extra 5 minutes. Unfortunately when we returned home we found that all the pictures taken after that episode didn't make the CD.

We were married at disney last year and had some of our wedding photos taken at the grand floridian. Well, we were on the staircase posing and some kid throws a frisbee right by my head. His dad was just rolling on the floor, thought it was the funniest thing. I thought my husband was going to have a fit! I have to say that we did pictures taken at the poly and the grand and the people at the grand were the rudest bunch I had ever seen! Several men were hollering to DH, "Don't do it! Don't do it" and one man came up and had a 10 minute conversation with us about how his fiance had given him an ultimatum and he has been a free man as long as possible. Then we was winking and coughing and kept asking, "So, what are you going to do tonight, when you get back to the hotel???" It was weird!!

I had this happen but we had the child swap pass. I forget what ride it was on but I heard grumbling as I bypassed all these people waiting for their window to open up and went right in.
