Don't appreciate WDW? Just go to Six Flags!

Yesterday, my girls and I made our first amusement park trip since WDW in February. We live about an hour south of Six Flags over Georgia, so we drove up and spent the day there. Needless to say, like most other WDW junkies would do, I spent the day comparing parks. And I think most of us would agree there is no comparison.

The atmosphere is just barely over that of a carnival or county fair. I got so tired of standing in line behind numerous people blowing smoke everwhere and using horribly foul language. I can't remember ever seeing anyone walking through WDW shirtless, but saw many men and boys doing this yesterday. And whoever came up with the idea of giving away those #@&! basketballs as prizes should be shot! All day, I constantly heard that dribbling noise everywhere. The whole park seemed very dirty, and most of the rides needed major TLC.

I guess the thing that bothered me the most was the fact that (including admission and meals) it probably cost more that a day in the MK would have! Are you kidding me? I was so disgusted!
My point is this . . . I know from time to time here on the DIS we fuss and complain about poor CM service or dirty bathrooms at WDW, but stop and compare this with other parks. I think we'll all agree that Disney is still "the happiest place on earth".

God bless you Walt Disney!:teeth:

I completely agree. After WDW nothing else comes close!!!!

We were just at Six Flags over Georgia this past weekend also, and I can't agree with you more. I knew SF would not compare to WDW, but I couldn't stop comparing it anyway.;) After going on certain rides I was able to better explain why Disney would routinely shut rides down to rehab them. Boy could Monster Mansion use a rehab?!? Anyway, we only went because the children and I were given free tickets. If only I knew that you had to pay extra for about 1/4 of the rides in there and that the food prices were outrageous :o , we might not have gone. It was a fun weekend anyway, but we can't wait to get back to WDW. :D

We get Season passes to Six Flags over GA. The did a LOT of work there over the winter. If you think it is bad now, you should have seen it the past few years! This is the first year they have even had trams from the parking lot in at least 3 years. But you are right--there's no comparison to WDW.

I went to disney world for the first time in 14 years this past may so that trip is fresh in my mind.

THERE IS NO COMPARISON at all!

Because of our location (Michigan) we have Annual Passes to Cedar Point. We got about 6-7 times a year and it is very fun.

The only 6 Flags I have been to was the one in Aurora, Ohio which has now been bought out by CEDAR FAIRS and turned back into Geuga Lake.

The 6flags ran their lines poorly and in many cases the park was not filled but they were only running 1 car per ride. While there was only like 30 people infront of us many waits were well over an hour.

My DW and I are heading down to Paramounts Kings Island for the holiday weekend coming up. This will be our first time traveling there as well... Many comparisons are going to be coming up.

The biggest difference between the Roller Coaster Parks and WDW is the themeing. I don't know how many times I said, they need a story about this ride instead of just making us wait in gated lines. I love how almost ever ride at Disney world has a story behind it that keeps you occupied and makes the waits seem shorter (i.e. TT, ToT, ARRc, BLY, MS)

And I thought it was just 6 flags Great Adventure that was sleazy. I'm glad to hear (or not so glad) that the others are just as bad.

Definitely agree. We used to go to Opryland when it was open and it was, I would say, not Disney, but at least clean and nice. The last couple times I went to Cedar Point in Ohio, I also compared, and again, while it's not Disney, it's heads and tails above Six Flags. I DID stay in one of the Cedar Point motels, it was the Breakers and we were in the old part. It stunk like mold to high heaven and I've never been in such a shabby old room, and we paid a dear price for it too. It was when the lights went out on the east coast last year, and walking down the halls in the dark reminded me of "The Shining". I'm not the pickiest of people either, but this was pretty bad. If it weren't for that extra hour in the AM for resort guests to get on Top Thrill Dragster, I would have left and stayed elsewhere. But it was for my 18 y/o "baby" and I was just happy to be vacationing with him!!!

For what it's worth, while Six Flags over Texas doesn't have the theming of Disney World, they work very hard at keeping the park clean and at having a good guest experience!

I don't know anything about Six Flags but I totally agree with your post anyway!

We just returned from Florida earlier this month and spent one day in St. Augustine. By the time we paid admission at all the various "oldest" this and that places and went to Ripleys because my DS wanted to, I was saying to DH how expensive it was for the day compared to the one admission price at Disney. And we enjoyed Disney sooooooooo much more. (Don't get me wrong, we still love St. Augustine and will continue to visit there, but going just about anywhere makes WDW look even better by comparison.)

That's funny because I thought it was just Six Flags New England that was bad. I've never been to any other 6 flags. Went once to Six Flags NE and will never go back. A man fell out of the Superman coaster in April and died at the 6f New England. I found it dirty, expensive, and the arcade games a rip-off. I'd rather stay closer to home and go to Canobie Lake Park, which is small but clean and well run. Of course nothing beats Disney :)

I couldn't agree more! DH and I took a weekend getaway to Six Flags over Georgia last summer without the kids- boy am I glad I didn't waste the money and time bringing them! They would have been so disappointed! The whole park was filthy!!!! And those BASKETBALLS- I don't only want to shoot the person who thought of this, I want to dribble one in their ear for at least 48 hours before doing so! The whole experience was disappointing. The fast food is more expensive than the fast food at WDW and not as good. Even cokes were more expensive. Then the things that you have to pay extra to do once inside- virtual rides, a haunted house, etc.- ridiculous! The rides all looked worn- Monster Plantation was a joke- it stunk, the whole ride looks 50 years old, and the poor animatronics. Anyway, we will not be returning this summer. We spent more one day at Six Flags than a day for two at MK- insane!!!!
Guess that's why I'm now addicted to WDW!princess:

Yes, I have to agree as well. Disney has gone and spoiled me for any other parks. We were at Six Flags in Ohio a couple of years ago (when it was still Six Flags) and it was close to awful. Dirty, stinking trash cans everywhere, food prices were truly ridiculous, and many rides weren't running. I also hate those carnival games lining the sides of the entire park. (Unlike many, I totally didn't mind the ones at Disney's AK. I found them reasonable and not too hard to win, and besides, there are only a few of them--I can live with that.) I thought about taking the boys to Cedar Point this summer...but, seriously, $240 a night at the Breakers Hotel!?! No way! We got two nights at AKL for that price.

I do still have fond memories of HersheyPark, but it's still not Disney, though they do keep it clean, and at least when we've been there, the other guests were well behaved and appropriately dressed.

Our local community fireworks were this past Sunday, and I had to laugh because about 5 minutes in DH whispers to me "This view sure isn't as good as at Disney." LOL I usually drive him crazy comparing things and now he's done it too. Of course I agreed, fireworks over Cinderella Castle sure are preferable to fireworks over McDonald's, LOL.

I hate Six Flags with a passion-- not only is it gross, but I went once and felt completely depressed...the annoying commercials make me feel the same way- I had the option to go as an end-of-schoolyear trip w/ my grade, but I chose to stay home and relax instead  On the other hand, I absolutely love WDW-- my favorite place on earth :D

I had thought about posting a very similar thread regarding Kings Dominion in VA. We just went this past weekend and my husband and I found ourselves comparing it to Disney the entire weekend.

The bathrooms were filthy. Trashcans all over the park were overflowing. Even in the queue lines you would find trash stuck in corners and on railings. Yuck!

Food was as expensive, or more so, than at Disney and was not good. If I'm going to spend $7.00 on a hot dog and fries, I'd at least like it to taste good!

Oh, and the language we heard!!!! We were there with our kids, ages 4 & 7. The language that we heard all day had me wanting to cover my children's ears. There were alot of teens using very foul language.

I kept wanting to go get a Fastpass for rides. LOL! But they don't have anything like Fastpass, so you just had to stand in line. I didn't realize just how much Fastpass had spoiled me.

The kids did have fun so I don't consider the weekend a loss, but we were reminded just why we love Disney so much. I'm SO looking forward to our trip in September. ::yes:: :earsgirl:

I LOVE DISNEY!!!!!

In the midst of my original rant, I totally forgot about the fastpass thing! Oh, you can get something like it at Six Flags over GA, but it costs an extra 10 dollars per person in your group to get one! Please! The ticket prices were bad enough, and I agree with an earlier poster . . . I couldn't get over how many "extra cost" attractions there were!

DISNEY FOR LIFE!!!:teeth:

I had a really good experience at Six Flags Great Adventure a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't grubby, the food was good, the bathrooms were clean, and the employees were all incredibly friendly and helpful. However, some of the rides really hurt! In any case, I considered it being in training for my WDW trip next month, even though the temperature was perfect and the crowds were very manageable. Too bad I can't have it all at once this year! :)

(I did notice and was surprised that the lockers cost $2 more than they did at Disneyland. Also, hats off to Disney for their grafitti control.)

I also hate Six Flags. I love roller coasters, and therefore amusement parks, and I often find myself going to another Six Flags to give it a try. I'm always dissapointed. The thing that gets me the most is how slow the loading times are for rides! They rarely have enough trains going on the roller coasters, which means more time in line watching teenagers make out. Gross.

On the other hand, I love Paramount's Kings Island and Cedar Point. They have great rides, clean parks, and it's possible to find good food at both.

That said, I want to go to Disney World!

I agree Joyciemc - I love Paramount's King Island - They have GREAT coasters! I need to go to Cedar Point sometime soon to compare it.

I have to agree. After going to WDW more than once we went on a trip with the WHOLE family to Six Flags over Texas (27 of us) and it just isn't Disney World. The theming isn't nearly as good, the eateries leave a LOT to be desired and being there with kids of all ages it seemed that all the rides are either THRILL rides or baby rides, not much in between for those that don't want to do the huge coasters but are too old to be happy riding little boats or cars in a circle.
