Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hey Ducks! Not much to report here...I ran once since W&D...went out with a couple friends who are doing C25K on Sunday morning, and then went out again that morning with my 11 and 9 yr olds who are training for the 5K we're doing on Oct 30th. In total between the 2 runs I did 3-something miles. woohoo. lol Yeah I'm definitely in an "in between a race and starting to train for another race" mode. I'll kick it back into gear soon....

Karen~Next time for SURE! :goodvibes Congrats on your time and I'm sorry you got ill too! It was a crazy post race for so many it seems.

Sharon~I never stepped on one of those shot bloks but I heard a father/daughter have a funny conversation about stepping on several of them. I can't remember what they said but I was laughing. (I'm horrible at retelling stories, can you tell?!)

Augie~I want to see that pic. lol Way to go on your 5K, gosh you are so fast!

Joe~Sorry about the little toe issue! Surgery, yikes! Yeah I'd opt out of that too. I enjoyed following along on your HHI trip. As I told you we went there last year for the first time and fell in love! And we're heading back in November for the same long weekend. This year and last I booked us on cash using a Disney Visa deal-awesome price for a 2br...of course it's the fall so not a summery-beach trip, but a fun fall trip!

As far as what to do for long runs and such now...I will not be doing any LONG runs again until my January half training calls for them. My body doesn't do well with lots of long runs (currently it's, of course, my runner's knee).

I started doing the 5/1 run/walk thing and I really like it. I can totally tell it reduces the stress on my body. And my overall time is better (whodathunkit). That's great Deb is doing a half, and let us know what you decide! I'm sure it is tempting... ;) Sounds like a neat race, in two countries!

Renee~Welcome home! I'm glad your 2 week trip was a great one! Sorry about the walkers getting in your way....ick. I made sure I was a courteous walker when I took my walk breaks and waited until there was a gap between myself and the next people behind me and I moved over to the right. Of course I was back in Corral C so it was less of an issue. There were actually a lot of people around me doing the run/walk thing.

I'm fine with a new thread, I'd be happy to start it if no one else wants to. Tricia, you out there?!? :)

bounceliketigger/Shannon~(I'm guessing that's your name since that's what Joe called you! lol) Welcome to the Ducks! :donald: I started running in early 2009 so I still feel new. I did a couple 5K's last year, the January Half and then W&D. I look forward to getting to know you!

Megan~Way to go on your races! I'm sorry about your arch though, ouch. Take it easy so you can heal all the way up and get back to it! :goodvibes

LadyD- where in NJ are you?

Joe- thanks, will do the survey for sure. Did I read correctly that you have a boo-boo toe?

Welcome to the Ducks, Shannon!

I had a race on each of the previous weekends and both were awesome!
October 2nd: Don Cathcart 6k! I finished the 5K in 32:08 and the extra k (which my coach *swore* I'd never notice! HA I noticed, trust me) put my time at 38:20.

Last Friday we had a invitational 5k in Smryna against 4 schools and I finished the 5K in 32:08 again! I was so pleased....

Great times! :thumbsup2

I picked up my bib and chip for my first race on Saturday. The weather is looking great for Saturday (a little windy, but sunny and high 60's). :cool1: Wish me luck! :goodvibes

Since I just moved here I am not sure exactly where you would call it.

I am in Union county, Rahway to be exact.. does that help at all?:confused3

I wish I was closer to some of you because I could sure use a running buddy.. I think that would help me pick up speed a bit. I am way to slow!

Best of luck!!! Can't wait to hear ALL about it!!:woohoo:

run like the wind!!!!

Hi Ducks! Welcome to Shannon! (did we meet at Boma?) Have a good race, Carissa! I might do a duathlon this Sunday, but it depends a bit on the weather. Have a good weekend, everyone!

You're going to do great C!! woohoo!!!:cool1:

Thanks to you both! And good luck, Augie, if you end up doing the duathlon. :thumbsup2

My outfit is all ready to go - bib attached, chip on my sneaker. We'll be leaving here around 7:15 tomorrow morning for an 8:30 race time. We live about 5 - 10 minutes away from the start of the race, but I'm worried about finding a place to park. I want to give myself plenty of time and not feel rushed. I'll be stressed enough as it is!

Yes, Shanonn was at Boma. She sat to the right of me....she had the long pretty strawberry blonde hair. Now, she has white feathers and a blue hat.:donald:

Well best of luck getting the little guy to heal!:flower3: Nothing like a sore toe to thwart progress. Funny, we don't realize how significant they are till they hurt!

I finished my first race! Completed the 5k in 38:44 (my Garmin time - don't know my official time yet). That is more than 2 minutes faster than my previous fastest 5k time. :cool1:

I was so nervous about how crowded it would be (and with over 10,000 participants, I had reason to worry!). But, there weren't that many competitive runners who were wearing a chip. I had lots and lots of room throughout the race so not an issue at all.

According to my Garmin, my fastest speed was 8 mph, which is very fast for me! It must have been at the beginning when I felt the pull of the other runners. I really had to work to slow down. I also decided to go with a 5:1 run/walk interval instead of the 5:2 I usually do. Seemed to work just fine. I also tried to run most of the last mile with just two short walk breaks.

Besides some wind once we turned and ran on the boardwalk and some sand blown in my face, the weather was perfect. :thumbsup2 I felt pretty good although my legs have been feeling it all day. I don't normally get sore after running so I know I really pushed myself today. I know I can't do that for the longer runs, but knowing it was just a short 5k, I felt pretty confident.

Thanks to everyone who has cheered me on along the way. :cheer2: I had the best cheerleaders today! :grouphug: Now I have two weeks to get ready for my 10k! :cool1:
