Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hi Ducks! hope everyone is healing nicely. We had a nice day today, 40's and sunny it's supposed to be the same tomorrow, so I'm hoping to run outside. The plans for the Wine & Dine marathon trip are coming together. We just booked a Savannah view room at Kidani Village for Sept 30 - Oct 5 then 4 nights at Hilton Head Resort for some rest after all the fun at WDW. :cool1:
I'm looking forward to the trip, but I'll get excited for the trip after our May vacation to WDW & Vero Beach.

I saw this shirt on the Disney Store website, this looks pretty cool. It makes me want to sign up for the half marathon, just to wear the shirt.:hippie:

Have a good weekend everyone.

Joe

SamSam please let me know how you like the zumba class. I have thought about trying it at my gym, but wasn't to sure about it.

Glad to see everyone is getting out and enjoying some of this nice weather all over the country.

I take my first class next Tuesday and I'll let you know how it goes. I took a Samba dance class from this instructor several years ago, and she's a fantastic instructor. Very fun, upbeat, and boy can she dance.

I really want the woman's version of that shirt, but they only have it available in small right now. :sad2:

It's quiet around here with all of our injured ducks! Hope everyone is doing better. :goodvibes

I did 6 miles this week. Tuesday is a 25 minute run. Eek.

Hi all!
I just ran 4 miles around the neighborhood for the first time, it was much nicer than running around a track at Bally's. I used a gps running tracker program on my Blackberry it worked pretty good. Attached is a link to the report on my run. http://roadrunnergps.com/gps/shared/LP8M
The app is worth the $4.99, I just need some way to strap the phone to my arm instead of holding it, I know I will eventually drop it.:scared1:

Carissa good job on the 6 miles this week and good luck on the 25 minute run on Tuesday.:wizard:

Good luck to everyone this weekend that are running events.

Debbie and I are going to see Alice in Wonderland tonight. :ccat:
Have a good weekend!:donald:

Hello All,

Ran the Fort Eustis 10K this morning and figured I would give a quick update.

Over 200 people ran in this race, pretty small crowd. I was surprised that the active duty Army folks did not have a stronger showing, seeing as how this was on their base. Temperature at race start was 37 degrees and started with a canon being fired off. My knee was feeling pretty well at the beginning of the race, I had it taped up with some KT Tape, but next time I will need to shave the hair where it adheres to my leg. I read on the web that I should not have to, but it came off about half way into the race. Pretty amazing stuff though. When I started off and I took it nice and easy per doctors orders. At about mile two my knee started to feel a little sore, but still felt pretty good. The race was pretty scenic and went along the lake of the base, which I did not know they had. Ran for almost two miles with an older gentlemen and had a pretty good conversation, seemed like he knew everyone that was running in the race. With about 3/4 of a mile left I had caught up to a lady who I had been using as a pace gauge for my run and decided to pass her. I don't think she liked this very much because she sped up also. My knee was feeling OK and I figured what the heck lets kick it up a notch and then with about a hundred yards left we rounded a corner and my knee gave out. I thought I was going to fall on my face, I managed to gain control and finished the race in 52 minutes (unofficial time). My wife and son were at the finish line  which was a very good site after almost wiping out, but they did not see that :). My knee was throbbing so I did not stick around for my official time. I came home took some naprosyn and iced my knee all afternoon. It is starting to feel a little better now, but I know what an idiot I was for not taking it easy like I said I was going to do. My next race is not for almost two months (Marine Corps Historic Half) so I will definitely take it easy for the next 30 days and focus on some non impact activities and let the. A couple lessons were learned from this race, such as wear disposable clothing, because it was chilly to start out with, but ended up pretty warm by the end of the race and carry a water bottle, I ate some energy beans about half way through the race and trying to drink and run from the disposable cups is not that easy. Well hopefully I will get my knee totally healed this time. Overall not a bad race, but they did not hand out finishers medals. My son also wants to start collecting my race numbers which I think is pretty cool.

Take care and hopefully everyone has a good rest of the weekend.

Joe,

Congrats on the four miles, I am with you I cannot stand running around in circles. I bought a running app for my Iphone and keep forgetting to use it :confused3 . Let me know how Alice was, thinking of going on Sunday afternoon.

Dan: Alice was really good, we saw the 2D version and Debbie & I really enjoyed it. There's some things a Disney geek will catch within the movie, I think I saw a hidden Mickey also. The theater was packed, it's been a while since I've seen that many people at the movies.
Congrats on the 10K today, ice that knee and take it easy tomorrow.:wizard:

Dan, congrats on the 10K, not a bad time for running with a questionable knee. And some good lessons, right? Thanks to the WISH boards here, I was all prepared with the disposable clothing for the half. And I also purchased at the expo a tyvek top which also was tossed at about the two mile mark. I did ok with the water provided as well as the Clifshots they handed out. I had brought some Gu with me but never used them. Not sure if I could carry a water bottle for a race. At the ToT I carried my camera the whole race, did not get any good pictures as I tried to take pics of the mile markers but never stopped, took them on the run, and they all came out blurry, so for the half I did not bring it with me.

Joe, I also do not like running in circles, I have to run around my neighborhood twice to do a bit under three miles, and I worked out a route where it is one big loop, which I like much better.

Have a good Sunday! Today was beautiful here, and they say tomorrow will be the same!

Hey Ducks! :wave2:

Another week. The bad: I'm think I'm going through a quasi-mid-life crisis now. TMI for Ducks, so I'll spare you the details. I didn't run once this week. Zip. Zero. Nada. I ate chocolate. I'm sure the Lady Ducks here can relate, eh? I didn't step out of the house on Saturday.

The good: I quit feeling sorry for myself today (Sunday). Went to Church and did the grocery shopping. Then I FINALLY went for a run this afternoon. OUTSIDE! For the first time this year. Woo hoo! I ran 4 miles. Felt good and bad throughout. I need to get in gear here soon. I've got that 10K in late May. Must...stay...focused...

I'm bagging the curling lesson tonight. Don't want to risk another blow to the knees. That, and I'm still feeling a bit sorry for myself and want to go to bed early. Snif.

Dan - I pulled similar stunts like you. You think you can do something, only to find out you're mortal. The truth can be painful. Keep up the ice!

Glad so many Ducks are finally getting outside and fluffing their feathers in this early spring weather. It feels good to get the down feathers in the sun again, eh?

Hope everyone has a good week! I'll try harder, too...

BTW - Anyone hear how Deb did at the Princess 1/2 Marathon?!? Can't wait to hear her report. Been thinking and praying for her...

deb, way to go on the princess half!

carissa, i want that shirt too. i swear, it never was available in any size other than small. i need to check out champion tees at our sports' store to see if i can squeeze into a small. if it runs like a disney tee, there's no way.

dan, great finish on your 10k! i think that's a great time! take care of your knee though--take it easy for sure!

joe, isn't running outside great? i have been enjoying the sunshine and actually got to wear shorts on friday!

my week wasn't so great. i've just had the blahs. plus, it's been a busy week. i work with a preschool (photography) and took their spring pictures this week. so, that prevented me from running during my normal times. and DH worked long hours. i just didn't feel like getting out to run five miles after 9 pm. so, i only ran twice this week. :( i just didn't have the time for more, unfortunately.

another thing is those who mentioned the loop (joe). my neighborhood loop is one mile. if i run in the little townhouse neighborhood across the street too, it adds another 3/4 mile. i just don't like to go too far from my house in the evenings. if i run during the day, i have a bigger loop through two more neighborhoods and i don't have to keep running the same small circle.

Happy Monday Ducks!

Just a FYI, several of us are connected on FB now so join in if you are on there! :)

I am still sick with a cold. I could have run this weekend since it's not in my chest, but, well, I just felt too tired. I'm planning on a few easy runs this week to get ready for the IWISH race, which I will probably do next Sunday.

Sharon~ You are an inspiration with all your classes! Let us know how zumba goes.

Dan~ Congrats on the golf win! And your 52 minutes 10K with a hurting knee is awesome! I know it's hard to take it easy when you just want to RUN and go for it. I have a hard time with that...it's so hard to hold yourself back. That's neat about your son collecting your race numbers. :goodvibes

Joe~ Your wine and dine trip sounds wonderful! We went to HHI for the first time last (early) November. We fell in love with it there!!
I use to hold my iPhone in my hand while running (used an app called RunKeeper). And I dropped it last year. I was actually trying to wave to my neighbor and ended up throwing it. lol I blamed it on him. haha Fortunately, the rubbery skin I have on it kept it protected, it actually bounced.
Glad you enjoyed Alice!

Carissa~ 6 miles is great!

Renee~ Sorry you're going through a low spot...hang in there. That's great you were able to run outside!

Emily~ Sorry about the blah's. I think this time of year doesn't help any of us. We need warmth and sunshine! (And for some us, to not be sick or injured! lol)

I hope Deb is enjoying her vacation this week and celebrating her Princess finish!

Hi Everyone! I am just poking my head in the door for a message on today's Monday Mixer.

Since Corinna is traveling today, I have volunteered to host the Mixer for a day.

So have a drink, relax a bit and join in the Monday Mixer with us…..
In honor of those who ran the Princess Half as their favorite princess (and other Disney races as their favorite characters), tell us all a bit about your favorite Disney characters.

Did a very slow and steady 3.2 miles today, did not want to stress the knee to much. I think the trick is Motrin, KT Tape and ice after. Very beautiful morning for a run though. SUpposed to be in the 60's this week :goodvibes . Heading out to Oklahoma on Friday for about seven days. Busy trip season starts again for me, so lots of hotel rooms for the next few months, blah.

Hello Ducks - sorry for being MIA lately. I too have been feeling blah. Alot has to do with my DH not feeling well (inflammatory arthritis) and with the medicines he is taking he isn't very hungry. He always was a skinny guy so of course now he is losing even more so it has me worried. Needless to say I didn't end up going to Orlando this past weekend but I did end up getting out for a 4 mile run for the first time since the Virtual Valentines Day 10K. That helped me feel better. But there is still the thought of my DH being sick and not working and do extra income beyond mine and so finances is a big damper on my mind as well.

Congrats Deb on finishing the Princess half. Is Deb the only on our team that did the Princess this year? If not I want to make sure I say congrats to everyone - I know a couple of my WISH friends from other teams that did the Princess but wasn't sure if there was anyone else from the Ducks.

Liz - you mentioned being connected by Facebook - I am friends with some other WISH friends but if others want to send me a friend request that would be cool - my name on FB is Tricia Wiebelt McFadden - can't wait to keep in touch via FB - since it seems I end up on there more then I do on here.

Almost forgot about the Virtual St Pattys race - it gives me a good excuse to get out running again!!

Hope everyone feeling BLAH will start feeling a whole lot better real soon!!

Tricia, I hope your dh is doing better. Arthritis can really be difficult to deal with, I hope he's able to get some pain relief.

Well, I took my first Zumba class this afternoon and it was a blast! Now, I'm not a dancer so I felt a bit awkward but it was still very fun and a great workout. Our instructor is actually a dancer, originally from South America, and she can really move. Great dancer, very fun personality, which makes the class super fun but a little more 'real dance' than some Zumba classes might be. It was actually so fun, that after each dance set everyone in the class would clap because we felt so up, and so invigorated. I'm really looking forward to the next class. :)
I'll have Zumba Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sat., and then Kickboxing on Mondays and Wednesdays. To fill that out, I'll walk (treadmill or outside), 4 or 5 days with mileage varying. With the days getting longer, I plan to walk to my classes and back (weather permitting) which is a round trip of 4.6 miles. I'm so happy to have nice weather returning, so I can be outside. :)

Hello Ducks!!!!!

Pretty uneventful day today. Spent the morning doing teacher observation hours and the afternoon writing a term paper on adolescent development. Some where in the middle of all of that I managed about an hour and a half of eliptical and weights at the gym. Very beautiful day here in Newport News, VA today.

Hi!
Maura just sent me over here to join Donald's Defiant Dashers - I hope that's O.K. :lovestruc

I'm registered for the 2011 Marathon, but the most I've ever done is a 10k & I'm VERY rusty at running.
