Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Liz-

I LOVE the curling hats! I'll have to look for one of those while I'm up here. And the smiles? They look like Japanese...they always smile, pain or not.

Dan-

SQUIRREL!

Hope you're almost off the drugs and feeling better soon. Running be damned, there's golf to play!

those curling hats are hilarious!

i was able to get a 5.35 run in this morning. it felt good. i could feel a little tightness in my knee around 4.5 mile mark, but i kept going and it subsided. normally, it only bothers me if it's cold, so i'm still wearing my cold-weather compression pants.

i ended this week at 14.43 total (so, made my goal for the week).

for the month, i averaged 13.825 per week. that's a little under my goal for the month. :( but i did have one week of illness that set me back a little.

i hope to do better next month. i'm trying to decide if i want to shoot for 15 miles per week (barring illness and injury! lol!).

i have run over 100 miles in 2010! :woohoo:

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! I may have done a dumb thing. I played soccer with my boys outside yesterday and again today, and I'm feeling the pain a bit more in that hip/back/leg area now. Oops. I'll cozy up with the heating pad for awhile tonight...

Renee~ "SQUIRREL!"...:rotfl:

Emily~ WooHoo!! Over 100 miles so far this year, that's great! :cool1:

Hello Duck's, I hope everyone is healing up. If this keeps up we might think about changing our name to the Aflac Duck.
Liz I bet you have fun playing soccer even though you are paying for it now. I am ready to play outside also.
I just registered for the Dexter/Ann Arbor 10K on June 6th, this will be my first race.
I didn't do a good job of training this week, only managed 2 runs for 8 miles total and one day swimming. I had a tough time getting over the effects of my Las Vegas meeting last week (jet lag, etc. ;)). The Olympics this week didn't help with catching up on sleep. I start my intermediate training on Monday, so 4 runs a week.
My wife (Debbie) trained last summer to walk the Detroit Half Marathon and that got me thinking about running a half at Disney. Since I have been running, she has started to run and I think she is going to do the 5K at the Magic Kingdom the morning of the Wine & Dine Half. It will be fun to watch her run in the morning, play at the Magic Kingdom for awhile, then rest up for my run in the evening, then play till 3 am at the Food & Wine Festival.
Happy Weekend everyone. Go USA Hockey!

While on my five mile (treadmill) run today, I heard Seal singing his song, "Crazy".

Slightly paraphrased, "In a world full of people, only some want to run, isn't that crazy?!? Crazy?! In a heaven of people there's only some want to run, isn't that crazy?"

I thought of the Ducks here when I heard the song (and changed fly to run). We're not crazy! It's the others who don't want to run that are crazy, if you ask me.

And as John "The Penguin" Bingham says...

Waddle on, Ducks! :thumbsup2

I have no idea who Seal is, but while running yesterday (I did 4 1/2 miles) I thought of Back to the Future III when Doc Brown is telling the cowboys in the saloon about the future, and he says, "people run, but just for fun". Sometimes I wonder how much fun......And then I remember a time last year, I was running at lunchtime, and caught up to a friend also out running, and it was July, and we were dripping sweat, and I said, 'why are we doing this?", and he replied, "because I like burgers and beer." Sounds like a good reason, I guess. I also like burgers and beer! It lets me check off the box that says 'athletic' rather than the one that says 'a few extra pounds' on the internet dating sites.

Looks like a nice day today, I think I am going to go for a bike ride. Have a good weekend, everyone!

I definitely wasn't thinking running is fun today. :sad2: Very hard time with my breathing by the end of the 2nd 8-minute jog interval. But, I made it through.

Just a smidge under 6 miles this week. Wish I could say it was all running/jogging, but more than half was so that's cool. :cool2:

Hope everyone's injuries continue to improve!

We got a foot of snow on Friday - oh joy...but I leave Tues - and will be on vaca for 2 weeks, so I won't whine too much!

I ran 5 miles last night and run the Princess 1/2 on Sunday. Very excited to be in FL and out of Jersey at this point!

Not sure how much internet I'll have - but i'll have my netbook. Will try to check in, otherwise, I'll see you on the flip-side of my vacation.
---

Tricia- enjoy your trip, and hoping you find your motivation again!

Emily- hope you get your runs/strength training to work out for you so you're satisfied with the results - oh no! Just read you're injured too now - but yeah, you're bcack to some runs

Liz- thx for the well wishes, one week to go! glad you're starting to heal - Liz, I have big feet and wear a wide, but I switched to mens - since the toebox is more square, less narrow. Play with sizes, find what feels best for you. The running store put me in support shoes, and my knees felt wonky, i trusted my own gut, went back to neutral and any pain went away for me...so also trust yourself as to what feels good. The right pair "feel right" for me..hard to explain - they feel like a glove/perfect fit now...love them. Knew when I put them on...oh, and apparently my walk gait and run gait are different, so keep that in mind too.

Joe - ew on root canal, i'd choose running too! Congrats on registering for your first race!

Dan - oh no, you too? Hope you're okay - oh, and get your paper done (FB) - stop stalling

Renee- I'm stumbling along on my TM too :) glad you were laughing and didn't get hurt with teh tripping! Crazy- one of my all time favorite songs - except Gnarls Barkley's! LOL

Sharon- glad you enjoyed your time with grandkids and vegas. Glad you're still chugging along!

Rich - yeah on the mileage and glad you're in good health still!

Back in the years when Mike and I biked a lot, we always would say that "we biked to eat." Now when I'm out walking, especially when I don't feel like going on, I just remind myself of how much I enjoy a big order of Chili Cheese Fries. :goodvibes
It's going to be in the mid 40's and partly sunny today, so it's outside I go for 4 miles. I really need to start building up again and with the weather finally warming a little it will be much easier.
Have a great day Triple D's.

I guess 2 miles on the dreadmill is better than 0 miles on the couch!

Hey, who on here has Facebook? Would love to add some of you to my Friends list (and so I can see what y'all really look like). LOL!

If you want a new FB Friend and don't want to post a link to your profile on here, PM me! I will "accept" your requests! LOL!

We got hammered a couple of weeks ago but am still in contact with many of my NJ friends and have seen their snow photos of FB! I don't know what I would do if I had signed up for the Princess! It must have been so hard to get those miles in! Congrats - what an accomplishment!

Hello All,

Hard to believe we are starting the month of March of already. Looks like a lot of you were able to get out and enjoy some of the nice weather this weekend.

Been a very boring weekend doing nothing but writing my paper on adolescent development, don't even think I left the house yesterday.

Feeling kind of dumpy since I have not been out running in about four days. I go back to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully can find out why my knee still hurts. As long as I am 75% by Friday so I can golf and jog the 10K on Saturday I will be happy. Thinking about trying to go over to the gym this afternoon to at least do some upper body work. We shall see.

Cheers,

Augie,

You can keep the snow up north with you. Hopefully it will be gone by the time I get ready to come up to NYC next month.

I hope the snow is gone soon also. I come into work a back way and 1. it is not plowed, and 2. in the afternoon it becomes a half mile slog through mud.

When you say NYC next month, do you mean March or April? Is this for business or pleasure? I will be in the city at least twice this month for some concerts. I always enjoy going in.

I was stationed up in northern New York (Griffiss AFB) when your state still had Air Force bases and remember those nasty winters you all get (blah).

I have a test to take for my teaching certification on 27 March. I don't have an exact address yet, but they said in New York City. Trying to talk the wife in to coming also and catch a broadway show that Friday night. We will see.

I will be in the city that Friday, going to the Bowery Ballroomg to see Perpetual Groove. A great band from Athens, GA. Tickets are fairly inexpensive, I think they were $15.
Saturday I am working at a beer festival at the Nassau Coliseum.

Did someone say BEER :woohoo:
