Happy Saturday night Ducks!

Tomorrow morning I have 17 miles to do. I'll get up as early as I can and get it overwith!

Colleen~The plan is still to have dinner at SSR/Turf Club that Saturday night of Marathon Weekend, I'm glad you'll be joining me! :) Will your coworker too? I need to keep a count so I can adjust the ADR as necessary once we get closer to the date.

RE: the Pasta in the Park Party...I considered it. But I decided I'd better not. I need to force myself to take it easy and save my energy for Goofy! I know I'd do more walking if I went to Epcot that night than if I just hang at my resort, which is my plan. I think it's a good idea/deal for those who are up for it!

Carolynn~Good luck tomorrow! I hope you have dry weather, a happy knee and that your finish time is one you're content with! :wizard:

Phil~Congrats times two! pirate: princess: I'm so glad to hear that your wife and the babies are doing well! That's just wonderful news! :) Hang in there with everything!

Hi Liz. Yes that will be 2 for Turf Club. I already made ADR's for 2 6:30pm. Otherwise I can cancel that if you want to include me in your ADR for Saturday. Thanks

... In non-running news, busy two weeks coming up as the play I am working on is opening in a week! Should be an interesting time! :) ...

How fun, good luck!

The ADR I have is for 5:10pm. I don't know if that time will work for you? But it is made for 10 people so that any Ducks who want to join in, can. (I made it for less than Chef Mickey's (14) because I knew there was less interest.) So far it's me, Augie, Joe and his wife...so 4. It'll be 6 if you and your coworker join us. :)

Liz - That is fine. I will be there. :) I also made an ADR for 2 at 5pm in case any more show up.

Hello Ducks! Congrats to all the race finishers! Way to go! And Congrats to Phil on the twins! I did a sort of race yesterday, it was a 6 hour run on a 2/1 mile course , mostly dirt and gravel roads with some hills. I figured it would be good training for a full, and that is what I would up doing, total was 26.5, I think. It did take the whole 6 hours, and there was some walking in there. This was the most I have run, both distance and time. Now I know I can do the distance, and i think the full will be a little faster, as it is all flat (mostly).
Liz, I added an extra night to Jan and all that was available was SSR, going to try to change Sat night to there to make Sunday morning easier. So I think I will be around on sat also. Hey Joe, how about them Tigers! I'm thinking they will finish it off tonight.

The Tigers are very exciting! I think they going to finish off those hated Yankees tonight.
WOW! on the 26.5 mile run :thumbsup2

I did my last run yesterday before the race this weekend, the feet seem to be working alright.

Have a good weekend!
Go Tigers!

Joe

Hey Joe, guess you had a nice time last night! Good luck to the Tigers, whoever they face. I am sort of pulling for Giants right now.

The 'fun' run was sort of a race, but was based on distance, not time. All who stayed for the end had the same time. The main course was 2.1 miles, at the start line there were some tables set up with drinks and snacks. I sort of kept running for the first 3 laps, then began to walk after the stop, and then started to drink and grab some PB&J's, and walk until I finished them. The last fifteen minutes of the race they directed you to a short 1/3 mile loop, and told everyone to stop when the horn went off, and they noted where you were for a final distance tally. The top finisher had over 40 miles, and everyone who completed at least a marathon distance got a medal. And they had a nice spread with salads and sandwhiches, and BEER!

Have a great weekend! Keep up with the training! Marathon weekend is not that far away.

Hi everyone,
lil Donald and I finished the Detroit International half marathon this morning. The run went good, I finished at 2:34, I thought I went faster, but I'll take it. The first 2 miles were pretty sad, the course took us past shells of old buildings with broken out windows that are boarded up. We made our way to the Ambassador bridge and headed over the Detroit River into Windsor Canada. It was a pretty good climb up and over the bridge and the views from there were pretty nice, the sun was coming up at that time. Once through Windsor we had to do a 1 mile run underwater :scared1:, the tunnel under the river back to the US. That was cool, but it got pretty warm. Back into Detroit was a better view, we went past some clean neighborhoods and and commercial areas. At mile 12 the full marathon runners and half runners split up and it hit me that I am doing a full in 80 days, right now and I can't image being ready. I am a little behind my Galloway training at the moment, with all the weekend races I have been doing lately. I have a Halloween themed 10k next Sunday, then I am going to ramp up my long runs leading up to our trip to Hawaii at Christmas.
Yesterday we stayed in town at the MGM Grand hotel & casino and headed over to the expo. RunDisney had a booth, but they didn't have the January medals out, I assumed because the races are closed. After dinner I played some slot machines and was up $90 for the evening, so that was nice.
Have a good week, Ducks.
Joe

I finished the Detroit half today and stayed at MGM too! The runDisney expo booth was offering discounted registrations if you signed up on the spot. I gave it some serious thought; that C2C medal is a major chunk of hardware!

Nice job on finishing the Detroit half also. I was able to get the C2C medal last year, I would like to shoot for another one in a couple of years.

I just got the official chip time and I did the half in 2:18, that is more like it.

Morning! Just back yesterday from a quick trip to see the mouse. We left on Tuesday and spent the night in a hotel in Buffalo, and then hit the airport for an 8am flight to Orlando. Stayed at AKL for one night and then got to the ship around noon on the 18th. Stayed in cabin 7120 on the Dream, and had a connecting room with my mom and her fiance. I had my 3 kids with me (14, 12, 5) and my niece (celebrating her 16th birthday).

Weather was good and the AquaDuck was fun! Made it to Castaway Cay where I did the 5k in the blazing sun and heat. Bought the t-shirt. Knee was really bad starting out but improved nicely by the end. I ran it pretty slow though, at 39 minutes on the nose. I'm still working out my knee issues.

It is so strange - my knee hurts terribly during the first 10-15 minutes of a run, then gets better. It feels great after the run, and stays that way for a few days, then gets worse and worse. The swelling and stiffness set in and even walking gets yucky. I guess running isn't harming anything, then? Right now the swelling is there but minimal, I almost have full range of motion, and there is only 1/10 pain.

To get back to training this week I am supposed to do 12k today, 8 TH, 6 S, and 18 Sunday. I think I am going to dial it down to 12 k on the Sunday too and ease back into things.

Good morning, Ducks! I haven't checked in lately.

Congratulations to all of our racers! Ya done good! :)

I finished the Blue Mountain Beach Half Marathon a couple of weeks ago. Chip time was 2:44. I'm slow, but I get there evenutally. Weather started out cool, but got rather warm once the sun cleared the trees. Pretty nice course. The only issue was the water stop at the half way point ran out of cups by the time we came through. A biggie in my book. But, sucked it up and moved forward. The race director was informed. :duck:

Training has been going well. Out for 18 last Saturday with the Galloway group. With the exception of sore knees, no major issues noted. Was scheduled for 7 this weekend, but I'm busy fighting off a cold. Have to get well for 21 next weekend.

Everyone - Keep up the great training. :thumbsup2

:)

Hey Ducks!

Just wanted to check in and talk race day apparel because I've decided to go ahead and order a custom shirt! I created a shirt (sports, moisture wicking) on Zazzle with my favorite, somewhat changed, marathon saying and am more excited now to run the Goofy!

On the back will be:
Any idiot can run. It takes a Goofy kind of idiot to run a Marathon and a Half!
On the front will be:
runGoofy

I don't know about you guys (or I should probably say "ladies" since guys don't think much about their race day outfits ;) ), but I've been back and forth on what to wear. It's a special race as it's the only Goofy I'll ever do. So I splurged and ordered a fun shirt. I won't be running in a costume, so this is as close to "fun" as I'll get!

Sounds like everyone is doing great with training and other various races. I clocked in 12 miles yesterday with an 11:30 min/mile pace, which is pretty darn good for me. :) The best part of the run was the fact that the new pup didn't tear up the couch while I was gone! I think that's my motivation to run faster - the faster I run, the sooner I get home to stop the destruction! :lmao:

Keep waddling ducks, January will be here before you know it! Sure felt like January this morning with a chilly 29 degrees to start the day!

It's taper time for me! Ran 12 miles this morning and will taper until the W&D Half in two weeks.

Spent the last week up in Calgary working. It snowed the whole time I was there. Not super cold, but windy and icy. So I treadmilled all week. 8 miles on the dreadmill last Saturday. Was pretty tolerable with a TV in front of me. I was a little worried about flying home last night, dehydration on an airplane, and running 12 this morning, but it went okay. I bonked at around mile 11, but I'll be fine at the W&D.

Now too much to get done before I head to WDW in two weeks. Went shopping for cruise formal wear today. Mom and I get on the Disney Magic on the Saturday after Thanksgiving! :yay: Ive never cruised before. Wonder how running on the deck will be. :dance3:

Sounds like everyone's fall is of to a decent start! Keeping quacking!

Hi Ducks!

Did a Halloween themed 10K this morning with Debbie. It was 39 degrees at race start, it was pretty cold waiting to run. The race went pretty good I finished in 57:24. I ran in new shoes and my shins felt pretty good, my left heel hurt a little, but that was from doing last weekends half in wore out shoes. I am hard on running shoes, I am on my third pair already this year. the outer heals get wore down. I might take my old shoes to a running shoe store to see if that is normal.
Sounds like everyone is doing good with race events and training. :thumbsup2

Tanya: nice idea for a shirt. I make it easy to plan a race outfit, WISH shirt and shorts if it's warm and long pants if it's cold.:rolleyes1 I ran every event this year in my WISH shirt, I might have to change it up next year.

Liz: do you shop at the Northlake Mall? If so, keep an eye out for the displays at the Santa area, we made the graphics that will be mounted to cubes promoting Snapfish and the newest Ice Age movie coming out on DVD. We are shipping the graphics to 18 malls all over this week, it was a nice job to get. We also did the Chipmunk movie displays from last year.

Renee: have fun doing the W&D and the cruise. I am bummed I am missing the W&D this year, it is one of my favorite events. I hope to get back next year for the race.

Have a Happy Halloween.pirate:

Joe

Good evening!

Starting to build my mileage back up as my knee is feeling better and better each day. I'd say it is 90% of normal now. Trying to work on my gait during runs as my knee is making me limp a bit and I am babying it. Got in 10k this morning for a total of just 26k this week, but I am building up. The most important part is to be injury-free. My old coach gave me some flak for not doing any speedwork lately, but after my incredulous look wore off my face, I reminded him how bad my knee was. I think another week of taking it easy and gradually increasing my mileage and I can think about seriously adding hills and speed work. I have been doing some, but gently so, and as part of my regular runs, but not yet hard-core hill repeats or whole sessions of speedwork. I think I am being wise. I am starting to see my pace go up as I heal.

Tanya: Love the shirt idea! I have no idea what I am wearing. I will probably wait until I know what the weather is like and use an old standby shirt. I think I will get some compression sleeves for the cold start, or make some myself. I'm pretty handy with the machine. I think I will run in my 3/4 length CW-X compression leggings unless it is really warm.

Renee- thanks for the comments on my other thread. I appreciate it. :cloud9: I hope your cruise is awesome and the W&D is a great event for you. I have done three Disney cruises (3 night, 4 night and the 14 night TA - loooooove cruising. Did the CC 5k - that was fun. I wasn't a runner with the first two cruises so can't comment on the running, and with the recent 3 night I didn't get a run in other than the Castaway Cay 5k. I found cruising to be quite active though with taking the stairs and walking a lot on the ships, and to and from the cabin multiple times a day. I mean, it wasn't *exercise* but it tallied up for a fair amount of activity, if you know what I mean. It was also a lot of food temptations, so thank goodness for the fact that our cabin was far from the stairs each time!

Joe: congrats on the 10k. Nice time!

Big Vic: we have a similar pace. Slow and steady wins the race! Ok, in my dreams, but we cover the same distance as the cheetahs in the crowd and demonstrate great endurance!

Oh Ducks...I learned the hard way that eating a large steak dinner and four glasses of wine is NO way to prep for a long run. I didn't die during our 12 mile run yesterday, but it sure felt like I would. :faint:

DH and I are trying to figure out a run strategy that works for both of us. My choice would be to run the first 6 miles at our normal 10:00 pace, then alternate a run/walk each mile thereafter. In my mind, I can do anything for 10 minutes with breaks in between. But DH is not a fan of the walk. He wants to try slowing down the pace and do an 11:30 all the way through - no walk breaks. :confused3 We'd finish at about the same time either way. I agreed to try his method for our 13 mile run this Sunday. Here's hoping!

Good luck to all our W&D runners! :yay: Have a great time!!!

For any ducks caught in Sandy's path - keep safe. I'm praying that the damage is minimal and your power stays on! No one wants cold, wet duck.

Hello Ducks! Hope all the east coasters made it through Hurricane Sandy in one piece. I was out of power briefly but made it through. Some of the parts of the Island and NYC got hit pretty hard. As did other parts of the coastline. Hope you are all well and keeping the training up!

Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry haven't been on forever! :headache:
Sandy closed everything for a while but we are fine.

Augie: Glad you're O.K.
Jen: Good luck to you & your DH on your race tomorrow!
Carolynn: Glad the knee is healing. Stay well!
Phil: How are the babies?

I did just five yesterday, today is 11. Gotta start training back to back runs.
Goofy will be here soon.
Stay healthy & happy everyone!

Hi Ducks!

Glad to hear everyone made it through Sandy and is doing well!

The doctor cleared me to run again, so I'm thinking an easy mile today to break back in. My 12 year old sister and I (and probably my dad too) are looking into the Ugly Sweater Run right now.

Seems like a fun race to get me started again!

Keep up the good work everyone! :donald:
