Ok, so I ran 5 miles this morning.. However, I did it with the Galloway method. I usually run all of my long run, but I have been having a little pain in my hip, so I am trying something different.. So far, it was quite ok.. I did a 4/1.. Did feel quite ackward at first, but I started to get the hang of it. I may start using the run/walk method more often. I didn't feel much pain. I may even utilize it in both of my HMs..

Joe -

Cute video! He certainly looks defiant. And he can dash. Did you ask him to join us here on the thread?

Easter -

Welcome to the Ducks thread. :cheer2: Luckily, not too many here are excessively serious runners. We're more about having fun and a good time. If that's what you're looking for, you found the right flock of birds.

Well, it's official. While it appears many of the Ducks are doing the ToT 10-miler and January Marathon Weekend, I'll be doing the W&D Half for the third time and the Tinker Bell Half in DLR in January. I'll be the yan to the rest of the flock's yin. My sister will be joining me in DL for the Tink Half. No idea what we'll dress up as, :joker: but we'll have fun!

Quack on, Ducks!
Renee

Morning Ducks!

Easter - :welcome:

Joe - WTG with the run. Liked the video. Cool name for a duck, "Tweeter."

Tim - You go, boy.

Completed day 2 of the Galloway marathon training program yesterday. Did 4 miles with one being a measured mile (Magic Mile) to determine a predicted training pace. Training with a group is interesting, and fun.

Y'all take care.

:cool2:

Welcome Easter! :donald:
I use the walk/run method & LOVE IT! Makes my runs so much more enjoyable and less breathless.

Joe, My DD & I were laughing hysterically at the video! LOVE IT!
Nice 10K for you & Debbie! Safe travels & wonderful memories to Steph!
What an AMAZING opportunity for her!

Vic, glad to hear the group training is going well. GREAT SUPPORT!

Renee: In regards to your post "not too many here are excessively serious runners. We're more about having fun and a good time"...I'd like to add and finishing upright with a pulse. :rotfl:

Have a fabulous week everyone! Keep on running (a la Dory).

So I got out and ran 3.5 miles this morning. I thought I was doing good on my pacing until a turtle pulled me over and told me to speed up or get out of its way:). So I got out of its way. Other than that it was a nice run, a little humid but good to be out and moving. Hope all of you are good. Have a great week

Tim

Whoda thunk?!? Yep, I saw Tinker Bell again this morning while out on my early morning run.

Today, Tink was just strolling down one of the busiest streets in the neighborhood, wearing his pink tutu, leotard, a head band and running shoes. Maybe he was cooling down after his run. What I noticed this time was that the pink leotard is actually a little backless number. Looks like it might be a ladies swimsuit instead. ;)

You gotta love this neighborhood! :dance3:

I think we need a picture! :thumbsup2:lmao:

:rotfl2:

I'm right there with you Tim. I may as well have been running through mud this morning. It's supposed to feel like 108 tomorrow in Louisiana. :scared1: Good news - it will only feel like 95 while I run the the morning!

I'm thinking about getting a leotard and a tutu. Maybe it will help my time.:goodvibes

I has been sooooooooo hot these past days that I have been doing my miles in the gym I go to, on their track.. However, it's 10 laps around = 1 mile. So, you can pretty much imagine how I feel. Think I am just going bear the heat and run outdoors. Don't know if I can continue that indoor track thing.

Hi Ducks! Wow, this month has flown by! ;)

We had a great trip to WDW last week! We stayed at Kidani June 16-24. It was our first time there (had stayed at Jambo years ago) and we loved it! We had a standard view, and were a little worried we'd have an awful one, but it was more than satisfactory! We were on the 5th floor and even though the bus stop was below us, they have such great vegetation and theming that it was still beautiful.

We went to all the Disney parks, both water parks, Disney Quest, and then also Universal Islands of Adventure and Legoland! We had no rain the first few days, then it was off and on light rain for a few days. Our last morning we woke up for the first time to pouring rain-Debby had arrived. We enjoyed breakfast at Boma and then got outta there leaving Debby behind. It was a fantastic trip! :)

I did not run while down there. And unfortunately I brought back a yucky souvenir-a bad cold. I probably could have started running again yesterday, but my running partner is on a cruise and well, I just wasn't motivated enough. So, I'll start back up this coming week. I'm sure I will be SLOW after being off for two weeks and now with this crazy heat going on.

Augie~You should switch from BW to OKW and walk with us.. ;)

Colleen~Way to go on your increased speed!

Renee~That man has got to be hot and uncomfortable in that outfit!

Tim~You've got a lot of races coming up, go you!

Easter~Welcome to the Ducks! :) We're glad to have you join us! Stick with your training, you'll be so glad you did! (I have to tell myself this all the time too!) I almost always do a run/walk these days. I am injury-prone so it helps with that. And with the hot weather, I just HAVE to do it. I am not a hot weather runner!

Joe~Keep us posted on Stephanie's adventures!
That duck video is so stinkin cute! Look at that little fella staying so close, and running so fast that his little wings had to lift up. Lol

Everyone~Keep up the training and stay cool! :cool2:

So, my bed tried to hold me down this morning.. However, I was able to break away from it's hold and run 6 miles this morning.. Still doing the 4:1 with my long runs.. I have noticed since doing the walk/run method, the times on my long runs are a little faster and I am not in pain afterwards.. Oh, and today I ran outside.. No way was I going to do 6 miles on that indoor track.

Happy June 30th everyone!

Liz: How did you like Harry Potterville? I would really like to get down to Disney World, but sadly I will have to wait until ToT weekend.
Easter: nice job on getting out and running this morning. When I started running 2 years ago it was on a indoor track. Once I progressed past 2 miles the constant turns gave my knees trouble and I had a tough time keeping track of the laps.

I got out and ran 10 miles this morning before it got too hot. My legs felt really good. On non-long run days I am going to try work on increasing my speed and get back where I left off before the trail half. I was doing a run walk interval, but it was run to a mile then walk about 30-40 seconds. I just went back to doing a 4 minute run and 30 second walk and it seems like it has helped my pace. I think later this year when my long runs get past 13 miles I will modify it to a 4/1 interval.
I just saw the Wine & Dine course map and I see the finish takes you through Epcot instead of just outside it. I'm glad they keep improving the race, I wish I was coming down for it.

I just made a character breakfast reservation for Christmas morning at Aulani. Steph made a face when I first suggested it, but she will have fun and that's what I want to do for Christmas.

Stephanie is in Venice, Italy right now. Her trip to Europe didn't have a good start. The flight from Detroit to Atlanta was delayed which meant she would miss the connecting flight to Zurich, so Delta got her a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam then a connection from there to Switzerland. She was stuck at the airport for over 6 hours until her flight. Once she got to Switzerland her bag was in Atlanta, it took 2 days for her bag to catch up. We were texting and I asked her if she liked Venice and she said "yes, it's just like it is at Epcot".
I have raised a Disney geek, I'm so proud:goodvibes. She even found a Disney store in Venice. I asked her if she find the Disney store in Rome, I want the Rome vinylmation (it's a gladiator):thumbsup2.

Have a good week Ducks!

Joe

Hi Ducks!

It is way too hot & humid in N.FL.
Attempted to go for a 3 mile but had to cut it short. 85 and humid at 8:30am. :(
Debating on using an indoor track but I think i would feel like a hamster in a wheel going in circles. :)
Less than 90 days to TOT!! Anyone else going?
Liz: Sorry you picked up a cold. Seems like you are batting 1000 between injuries and illness. Hope you feel better soon. :). Found another marathon recruit she just moved to FL and signed up for the full.

Well hope everyone has a safe and Happy 4th!!

Colleen

Colleen

Debbie and will be there! Very excited about the after race party going on until 4 am. Lots of opportunities for a Duck Drop on ToT! :thumbsup2, hopefully I can stay up that late,

I ran the Firecracker 5k on the 4th, it was 85 degrees with a heat index of 90 by 8 am. The race started good, but by the 2nd mile the heat wore me down. I finished the race in 28:50.
It is really warm right now, I need to get up early tomorrow to get my long run in.
Who has started training schedule for WDW marathon weekend? I am using a modified Galloway schedule for the full to finish standing up. This months Runners World magazine has an article about breaking 2 hours in the half, I am going to check that out and if it's possible to do in the Detroit half this fall.

Steph is in Florence now and leaves for Rome on Sunday. She is still having a really good time.

Augie: were you involved with the Higgs boson experiments?

Have a good week everyone, stay cool out there.

Joe

Tim: I think your turtle passed me yesterday. :rotfl2:

Joe: So glad Steph's trip has turned for the better! Yep, I started training for January. Galloway's 3:1's, but really following Higdon's plan. Don't like running for "30 minutes, 2x's week" I'd rather focus on distance.

Liz: You are a BAD influence. :thumbsup2 Now we're headed to Kidani Aug. 13-17 (and yes, headed for Blizzard Beach & Typhoon Lagoon). How are you feeling?

Easter: Glad your ratios are going well!

Who here does strength training & core work? I think I need to up my programs.

Airman - Great to see another member of the flock will be at TOT. :). Maybe my friend and i could meet up at the end. Never been on tot due to sheer fear of drops! But it might be the best way to celebrate a finish. LOL. :)

Hello Ducks! Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July week! I had a busy week, Tuesday saw Phish at a local venue, and Friday drove four hours up to saratoga to see them again. Spent Saturday visiting some of the local caverns, and today I ran an 8K. The race started at 8:30 and it was already hot. I started running out of gas on the last mile, but managed to meet my goal of under 40 minutes. Plus I have really slacked off on running, did a 5K a month ago, and ran only once since then. Have to start back up again soon, the Full is not that far away.

Joe, yes, I worked on the ATLAS experiment. Traveled there for four years, so I know Steph will have a great time there. Switzerland is a beautiful place!

I will be looking forward to some drops after the ToT!

Renee, you see some interesting sights during your runs!

Have a great week!

How's everyone doing?
I leave for Wisconsin tomorrow so next week's runs may be skewed a bit.

Today's run was 6 miles & apparently I am VERY slow.
DH's friend pulled up beside me:
"Do you want a ride home?"
"No! That's the point of running"
"Oh...I didn't know you were running."

That's hilarious!
Ironically, we're leaving for Lake Tahoe tomorrow! I understand the weather here should be heading back into the hot territory, 90's again. And still, no rain. Try and enjoy your time here! (I'll be nice and cool in the mountains of N.California! :) )
