Marathon Weekend Ducks

Ok, it's last call time to join in on the ADR's for Marathon Weekend! I'm going to reduce the ADR's #'s to the actual so that I'm not taking up spots that we won't be using. I'll wait until later this week to do so, but please let me know asap if you want to join us or if you aren't able to now.

Here's what I have:

Turf Club, Sat. Jan 12 at 5:10pm
Terapin(Carolynn) and sister Sharon
Mickeyfan74(Colleen) and coworker
airman(Joe) and wife Debbie
ahoff(Augie)
liznboys(Liz)
Total: 8, ADR made for 10 so 2 spots remain

Chef Mickey's, Sun. Jan 13 at 5:05pm
airman(Joe), wife Debbie, Sister and Brother In Law
Maddykins06(Karin), husband Bryan and daughter Madison
ahoff(Augie)
liznboys(Liz)
Total: 9, ADR made for 14 so 5 spots remain

In additon to those, we are meeting at the Contemporaty Resort bar, the Outer Rim (located near Chef Mickeys), at 3pm on Sunday after the Full. Those of us doing Chef Mickey's will head to dinner after that.

Also, some of us are staying at Port Orleans or Old Key West and will be walking to the half and full corrals together.

I think that's everything?

Good for Turf Club Saturday. I also have a reservation I made earlier for 2 at the TC I did not cancel yet so 2 more could possible be added to the group.

Also staying at POR 1/10 - 1/13. Looking forward to it. :cheer2:

Having issues with my shoes (working in a newer pair 3 months) same brand and size but getting blisters. ?? May resort to old pair from last yr Half just get new insoles and that might help for the old pair.

Thanks,
Colleen

What an ugly day here in NC! Drizzly, sort of muggy. I was hot and chilly on my run this morning, just yucky weather. I hope marathon weekend isn't like this.

Liz: I just noticed we will be in coral D together, I will make sure not to leave you in line for the potty this time, so I won't get lost and end up in the wrong coral again.

Joe

I won't let you out of my sight. Lol

No long runs since November 11th (half marathon) until today. By the grace of God, I did 10 miles in 2:30. Yay! :cool1:15 minutes per mile. The crazy thing is my Garmin said it had a low battery when I was finishing my first lap (It was 1.42 miles). I didn't want it to just cut off mid-run so I went ahead and cut it off and finished sans Garmin. I deliberated just packing it up and going home but I felt good so I just lapped to 9.94 and then turned my Garmin back on to do the last .06. I figured my time would have suffered because I am so used to relying on it but I guess I was just more relaxed and not as worried about it. It was actually *gasp* enjoyable. I really liked my walk/run today!

I have 20 and 10. Then Marathon!!!!!!!!!!:cheer2:

Way to go! I know that feels great! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link, Liz! My bib is 2264. I do not think that is indicitive of where I will end up though.

I was looking at a map of disney, and am thinking of trying to join you for the walk to the start, as SSR is not that far from PO. If I walk down the road from the SSR entrance it comes out on the road the start is on, right? I remember pretty much running to the start from the parking lot last year due to late buses, walkig sounds more stress free!

Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone! Have some good runs, and Joe, have a great trip!

Joe and I are staying at OKW and Tanya is at POFQ. You could walk from SSR and meet up with us at some point. Tanya and I had planned to meet at the corner of Disney Vacation Club Way and Bonnet Creek Parkway. Here is the Google Map of it: DVC WAY & BC PKWY
Keep zooming in towards that "A" and you can see the street view. There is a grassy area there (there's a 40 speed limit sign near it). It does have a slope to it but I think it will be an ok spot to meet.
And then from that spot all we have to do is cross Bonnet Creek Pkwy, go over that bridge there, and the corrals will be right in front of us! :)

Hey Ducks!
Coach Charles just posted this video for Marathon Monday. For those of you running the marathon, take a look. For those of you not running the marathon, take a look. It's funny.

Almost taper time. :thumbsup2

Augie, yes, a few of us defiant ducks are planning on attempting the walk to the corrals. Not sure what our details are yet? I think it was something like meeting on the corner of Bonnet creek pkwy and Vacation club way? Or was it just Vacation Club way, right out front of the OKW entrance? I don't remember anymore. Time? 4:45? or :50? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

We have to be in the corrals at 5am, right, so I'm good with meeting at 4:45.:thumbsup2 LOVE how "late" that is! Lol

Good Morning Ducks,

What a morning. When I dropped my Pre-K DD off at school this morning, there were three sheriffs deputies guarding the entrance. Initially, I thought it was a reaction to CT. Then I got to my office and received the email that there was an altercation involving a parent yesterday at the gym, so the Pastor called in the extra security. :scared1::scared1: As I was working to control the rising panic, I got an email form the teacher saying that everyone was safe, happy and locked in and the "altercation" had nothing to do with any of the Pre-K kids. Officers will remain on-site all day. Counting the minutes until pick-up. :confused3

In an effort to distract myself, I want to share some great news. My mom finished the Ole Man River Half with a 16:09 pace. Since it was a small group of runners and she finished toward the end, they announced that it was her first Half and let me put her finisher's medal on her! Great moment. And since I estimated a 15:00 pace when I registered her for the WDW Half, she just made it into the second to last corral (Bib 54194 Corral G). With the extra few minutes, it looks like she won't get swept if she repeats her time from Saturday.:banana::banana:

DH and I are 10374 and 10375 - Corral F. I was a little surprised since we submitted a qualifying time of 4:40. I called Disney and apparently they never got our times. Ah well. The girl said we just needed to get it corrected at the Expo. No big deal.

We are doing our 20-mile run on Sunday and then TAPER!!!! Keep up the good work ducks we are almost there!

Ugh, I'm sure it was unsettling to see the police there. :(

That's great about your mom! Sounds like she will be just fine! :thumbsup2

Yeah you definitely don't belong in F! You belong ahead of me, and I'm in D.

I'm planning on 20 on Sunday too! Go all of us!!

Hi Liz and Ducks Oh man, not looking good for my friend. I'm afraid that RD has her down as registered for the FULL but she was sure she registered for the HALF.

RD called me to say that they have her down for the full and they cannot change it!! Geez. RD said our last ditch effort is to get with a race official at the EXPO to plead her case. Apparently due to the Half being sold out and 3 weeks out from the race (Yaaay), they are not offering any help.

My friend could really used a wing and a prayer to get to do the half this time.

I'm sure she isn't the only one ever that has had this issue come up??

Any advice?? Thanks ducks.

Colleen

Oh no! That's not good, ugh. I have no advice. I would ask this in the marathon weekend thread, someone there may have advice?? GOOD LUCK to her!

Sorry about the mysterious blisters! I hope you can figure out a solution!

Hellllloooooooo Ducks! :woohoo:

I'm so excited for you all! I'll be looking forward to posts and pictures on Facebook. Best of luck to everyone and know I'll be rooting for you on Marathon Weekend.

My husband is coming home from his last deployment tomorrow and we've talked about starting to workout together January 1st. I've never had a running partner so I think that'll be good for me. I desperately need to start working out again. I'm planning on looking for a race to sign up for this spring. :thumbsup2

Happy Holidays to all! :santa:

It's so wonderful that your DH is coming home!!!! Yay!:banana::banana::banana:

Good morning, Ducks. Merry Christmas!

7 miles on the TM this morning. Jogged the first 5, jogged/walked the next 1.5 (1:30 : 1) and jogged the last .5. Knee is doing pretty good. A little pain, but nothing like it was. The compression sleeve seems to be helping.

Hope evereyone has a great holiday. Keep up the great training/taper.

:smokin:

Happy Sunday Ducks!

I am so thrilled to say that I am in taper mode now. 11 miles done yesterday and 22 today. Training is complete! Yes!!!!

I was very unmotivated to get out there this morning, everyone was still sleeping, and it was about 30 degrees. My first few miles were a mental challenge, I really wanted to go home and get back into bed. Once I got through my first 5.5 mile loop I felt much better. My friend joined me for my 3rd 5.5 mile loop so that was nice. And for the first time I listened to music while I was out there. I turned on a Christmas station on my iphone. :santa:

Another first during all this Goofy training is that my knees bothered me today. I can't complain. I expected them to hurt WAY before now since I have a history of runners knee. I won't be running for the next several days so they will get rest.

Other than the knees, I felt great! I know I can complete 26.2 miles!

Joe~What time I leave OKW will depend on where my room is (hopefully near the front). But if we all plan to meet at that corner of Bonnet Creek and DVC Way at 4:45 then I'll leave OKW around 4:30 I guess.

Carissa~That's great you're thinking of a spring race. You can get back into it, I know! :thumbsup2

Vic~That's great your knee is doing better! I hate cigarettes, but I must say that is a fitting smilie right now! Lol

Tanya~You enjoy taper time, too! Hey, have you thought about what you're going to wear for the 5K yet? I know we need to be closer and see what the weather is going to be first...but I'm wondering what I will wear since we will be taking it easy and fun. :)

Hehehe. Heck, I never gave the cigarette a second thought, or any thought for that matter.

TAPER! TAPER! TAPER!

Did the 20 miles today. Had to walk the last few miles because of cramping, but I do think I could have finished. That was a good feeling. Good luck this week. And have a merry Christmas!

I hadn't thought much about it, actually. I guess I'll be waiting until we get a decent forecast. But I know it will be simple. Maybe even just jeans and a shirt/jacket! I completely intend on casually walking the 5K as if I were strolling in a mall somewhere. Easy peasy is the name of the game that morning! ;)

Merry Christmas to everyone!

I am happily in taper mode! I did a 22k run/hike yesterday on a good challenging icy trail at freezing temps, and then did a 4k road run afterwards to get my mileage up. I had intended to do 26k trail run, but underestimated the time it would take, and had to skip the last segment of the trail due to darkness! It was one thing to pick places to plant my feet around the ice in the daylight, but I thought it was just too dangerous to do so at night, in a dark, unlit forest. I was disappointed in myself, so when I got home I decided to turn around and head back out (with dry clothes) and did the last 4k around my neighbourhood. I was stiff and so sore - even my obliques hurt today from the challenging trail, but I got out there! So pleased and happy now. I have more leg muscle pain that I have had in a long time so it must have been a good workout!!!!

Can't believe we are so close! Squeeeeeeeeee!

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! Sorry for the late notice, but I have a comp park pass I got last year for volunteering, and I have no need for it. Does anyone need it? The expiration date is January 8th, which might be a problem. I only looked at the date last night, I arrive the 10th. I can mail it if you are arriving early!

Thanks, Augie

Hey Ducks! Hope you all had a nice Christmas! Here we are on December 26th, already. 15 days until marathon weekend! I can't believe it.

I'm feeling great since all my running on Sat/Sun. When I tell people I ran 33 miles over the weekend they can't believe it. But I tell everyone the same thing, I know it sounds impressive but it is totally doable! It just takes time and dedication. I have been training for several months to get to this point, one step at a time. So many people COULD do it (if they wanted to) even though they think they couldn't.

Jeni~Welcome to taper! WTG on your 20!

Tanya~Yeah that's what I was thinking too...casual wear, since it'll literally be a walk in the parks!

Carolynn~WTG on getting out there after arriving home, I know how hard that is to do, takes willpower!

Augie~I don't arrive until the 10th, either. That's nice of you to offer up your ticket though!

WTG Liz!!! Awsome. Hoping to do a long run tomorrow.
Weather warmed up UGH! 70's today and tomorrow. So much for winter.

:)

Hello Ducks,

Still new to these running events.

I've been doing my own "training" / walking for 1 1/2 years.
Now coming into my 3rd Half marathon I am looking into getting a decent basic sport watches.

I think I would like something with a stopwatch, and another feature where I can set it for 1 minute/3 minute for run / walks. Is that what they call "split-time" ?? Maybe a pedometer feature also.

Any suggestions is appreciated. Nothing too fancy.

Thanks,
Colleen

That is warm. Hopefully not that warm for marathon weekend.

I can't help with a basic sports watch. I have a Garmin Forerunner 205 that I got three years ago. It continues to serve me well and was worth every penny (I think I paid about $125.)

I think the term you're looking for is intervals (speeding up (running) and then slowing down (walking)).
