Gotcha. Yeah, I guess I'll just have to wait and see how I feel after marathon weekend. I may finish (assuming I do!) and want to quit running altogether! Lol! Nah, I don't think that'll happen. I actually have a post-marathon weekend race in mind. It's a 10 miler in February. It might be nice to work on getting a faster time on a shorter race after completing a full. I don't want to commit to anything until after marathon weekend though. Have to make sure my legs are still functioning first!

Good job on your 10 today! I hope you have a healing sleep and your knee feels better in the morning for your 20. Good luck!!! :cool1:

Not at all runing related - but REALLY cool. The first link is to the video of the new dragon at Fantasyland. I can't wait to see it in person. The second link takes you to a link that shows you how it works.

Yes! There's always room in the pond for more ducks!

Just finished part 2 of my longest back to back, 20 miles today (after 10 yesterday). I'm absolutely thrilled with my time of 4:17!! :)
And even more excited that I don't have to run that far again until January 13th!!! ;)

Wow! I had heard about the dragon but hadn't watched video of it yet. That is so cool!! I can't wait to see it in person, too! Very impressive, yay Disney!

Can I join this group please?:flower3:

Welcome to the Ducks! We're glad to you have join us! :donald: Just jump right into the pond and post away! :) I'll add ya to the team list in post #2. I'll add you to those of us doing the full next month, too! :)

WooHoo!! Way to go Tanya!! :cool1: I was thinking about you today, wondering how your knee was doing and all. I guess it held up ok for you, huh? Do you realize our 20 miler times were pretty much exactly the same?!?! We rock! :yay::yay:

Oh yeah, we are right together Liz! For some reason I thought you were closer to the 4 hour mark. Hopefully we can keep up this good pace for 1 more month!

Knee was good today. Happy for that, for sure. Did my first ever ice bath - or rather just cold water bath. Could only stand it for 5 minutes though. Not sure if it did much good. I hate the cold!!

Good morning Ducks! Hoping everyone is doing well.

No run training to report. The knee feels pretty good, but the plan is to rest it another week or two and then try it out. Maybe a quasi long run over Christmas (I asked Santa for a Garmin 910, so I have to road test it, right?). :) I'll be at the starting line regardless. Jog, walk, waddle, limp. It's all good. :thumbsup2

irishtwins1112 - :welcome:

Liz - WTG with the 10/20. Glad to hear both went well.

Tanya - WTG with the 10/20. Hope the knee is doing well.

Everyone - Keep up the great training! :thumbsup2

:cool2:

Aloha Kaka (hello duck, in Hawaiian), just practicing for our trip to Aulani in 10 days!

Irishtwin: welcome to the pond!

Liz & Tanya: WTG on the 10/20 runs :thumbsup2 You are so far ahead of me in mileage. The 19 mile run I did last weekend left me with sore and black toe nails in my big toes.

Augie: don't be modest, we all know you will finish the full, get cleaned up and be in line for Toy Story Midway Mania by the time we start getting to the fish line.

I had a good week with training. I am enjoying the swimming. I ran five miles on the track in 45 minutes (still working on that Augie speed).

Have a good week everyone. Keep moving forward!

Joe

I forgot to introduce myself when I joined....but I just wanted to give everyone a little background on me.

Married to DH for 3 + years. I have 2 boys (19months and 7 months). I am registered for the Disney full marathon. I was doing super good on my training from June to November 13th when I did a half marathon as part of my training. I injured my big toe joint. The dr didn't tell me I couldn't run but the couple of times I tried afterwards it hurt during the workout and after for several days. Per the advice of Coach I have been staying off of it until this coming week midweek when I will try a walk/run. I have been trying to stay in the game with crosstraining. I generally get 1.5 hours of a mix of cardio and strength training about 5 days a week and do a long run (or long xtraining session at this time) once a week. Before this injury I had improved to doing around 13:30 for 2-3 mile workouts and as low as 15 minutes per mile for my long runs. I was doing between 18-19 minutes per mile when I started back in June. I am very concerned on how this injury is going to affect my pace when I start back this week. Please pray for me! I am really hoping to just pick up where I left off. I don't really have a time goal....just to finish and not get swept! Speaking of which I had posted a thread for people doing 15-16 minutes per milehttp://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3002160. We have about 3 people but if anyone else wants to you are more than welcome. I think it will really help me to just keep up with someone and not have to worry so much about my pace.

In the past I have completed several halves, 1 full, 1 Goofy I DNF because I was swept at 23.5 of the full, and 1 Goofy I DNF because I decided I didn't want to freeze that year....it was the year with the snow and sleet. I am so scared of getting swept right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, I know I will feel even worse if I don't even try.

Last night I had another nightmare that I went to Disney and didn't even try to do the marathon because I was too scared.

Happy Monday Ducks! Less than 5 weeks until Marathon Weekend!:woohoo:

Tanya~Yes, I sure am hoping our training goes well from here on out and that we all make it to the start line ready and able!
I tried ice baths (or cold water baths, I never used ice) and felt it was a waste, for me. I take HOT showers after my runs and that seems to be fine!

Vic~I'm glad your knee is feeling better. I hope Santa is good to you!

Joe~I remembered the other day about your Hawaii trip, you must be so excited!
Eek, sorry about the toes! Think you need bigger shoes?
Too funny about Augie...lol...and so true!

irish~Ouch. That big toe joint injury sounds rough. That's one part I haven't injured, yet. (lol) I wish you the best with getting back to it! I think that's great you formed a group to keep each other going and beat those sweepers for the full. It's amazing what a little camaraderie can do!
Oh! I wanted to let you know that we have a few Duck meets over Marathon Weekend planned and you are welcome to join in if you'd like. I'll give the details in the next post.

Marathon Weekend Ducks

Ok, it's last call time to join in on the ADR's for Marathon Weekend! I'm going to reduce the ADR's #'s to the actual so that I'm not taking up spots that we won't be using. I'll wait until later this week to do so, but please let me know asap if you want to join us or if you aren't able to now.

Here's what I have:

Turf Club, Sat. Jan 12 at 5:10pm
Terapin(Carolynn) and sister Sharon
Mickeyfan74(Colleen) and coworker
airman(Joe) and wife Debbie
ahoff(Augie)
liznboys(Liz)
Total: 8, ADR made for 10 so 2 spots remain

Chef Mickey's, Sun. Jan 13 at 5:05pm
airman(Joe), wife Debbie, Sister and Brother In Law
Maddykins06(Karin), husband Bryan and daughter Madison
ahoff(Augie)
liznboys(Liz)
Total: 9, ADR made for 14 so 5 spots remain

In additon to those, we are meeting at the Contemporaty Resort bar, the Outer Rim (located near Chef Mickeys), at 3pm on Sunday after the Full. Those of us doing Chef Mickey's will head to dinner after that.

Also, some of us are staying at Port Orleans or Old Key West and will be walking to the half and full corrals together.

I think that's everything?

Good morning! I had a good weekend of running, doing 16k/9k. Next two weekends are my big runs of 22-26k (the 26k is going to be a trail run through a challenging trail with about 6 hours on my feet and big, big inclines), and then I can wind back down again! Getting out in the cold and rainy-sleety-snow has not been that great, so hoping things will improve for my long runs.

Have the HM race retreat all booked. I bought it for my sister for a Christmas present, and DH bought mine for me! Looking forward to that treat.

I have most of my Christmas shopping done and wrapped. yay! Off call on December 22, but things should be light before then.

Really struggling mentally with the longer runs. Have gotten in several 22k runs since October, and a bunch of 16k runs, but having a hard time getting mentally into the game for the bigger runs. Because of my knee injury setting me back a few weeks, I feel like my training has prepared me super well for the HM, lots of back to back runs to prepare me somewhat for the goofy back-to-back aspect, but feeling undertrained for the full distance. I never did plan to be really well trained for the full, but had hoped for 2 more long runs around the 26-30k range. I think I will be fine for the first half of the full, but the second half is going to be super hard I think. I am planning on running a really easy HM, and going even easier on the full, with a plan to just make it through standing and not ill. Lots of walking intervals on the full I think. At this point I can only do what I can do. I really can't imagine planning to train for a full again - so many long, long runs. The HM distance training seems to work ok for me, though, and I have another HM at the beginning of March.

Thanks Liz for the clear post on group events. :cheer2:

Welcome Irish! :cool1:

And congratulations to everyone for their great weekend running!

Hey Ducks,

Welcome Irish! Glad to have you join us!

Joe - Have a great trip! So jealous!!!!

DH and I did 18 miles yesterday. Felt OK until mile 14, when I started having leg and calf cramps. :scared1: Apparently, I did not hydrate well enough. Ended up walking the last 4 miles. I have a whole new appreciation for you repeat marathoners and Goofy runners. I can't imagine ever wanting to do this more than once or back to back. Liz & Tanya - yall are AWESOME!!!

So we are doing the New Orleans Ole Man River Half this weekend and my mom informs me yesterday that the walkers are starting 30 min ahead of the runners. "What?!? That can't be right." I insisted. But sure enough, that's what the webiste says. :confused3 How on earth is that going to work? Anyway, while I'm looking at the website it also lists the vendors who will be providing food and drinks after the race. In true New Orleans tradition, there will be red beans and rice, fruit cake and beer. Perfect post race fare! :lmao: Gotta Love NOLA!

Happy Trails Ducks!

We have some family coming with us and all our time is going to be taken up with them:sad2:. Sounds like fun though!

I know what you mean, Terapin! I'm not going Goofy....just the marathon but thinking about those long miles really gets to me, too. A half marathon is very much in my comfort zone. I am starting back my long runs this weekend and will be doing 8-10, 16-20, and 8-10, then marathon! It seems impossible but I am going to tape the big toe and see how it goes. I am going to try my best no matter what....even if I am limping my way through MGM!!!!!!!!!!! You can do it, Terapin:cheer2:! Are you still planning to join Cherie and I?

I think so - I guess it depends on corral placement? I'm gonna need all the help I can get so will see what corral I get into, and which you guys get into. If it works out, that will be awesome!!! :cheer2:

I gotcha! I know I put in 5:01 for my finishing time hoping that would bump me out of that last corral but I will have to see what happens.

Hey Ducks!

I haven't been in the pond as much as I'd like, but I've been lurking in the reeds on side, reading, and keeping up with y'all.

After my week-long vacation in WDW after the W&D Half, I went home just in time for my Mom to fly down for the Thanksgiving holiday. After stuffing ourselves with bird and all the funny foods that go along with the holiday, Mom and I packed up and boarded the Disney Magic in Galveston, Texas, and went on a 7-day cruise! Ports included Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. We stayed on the ship at Costa Maya since the port time was short and Mom was tired from our excursion the day before in Grand Cayman. We had a fantastic time! This was our cruise for both of us (and I can assure you, it won't be my last!). I especially enjoyed the days at sea, when absolutely nothing was expected of me (well, except whatever Mom needed :rolleyes1). I managed to run over 15 miles on the ship during the week, too, including a 10K run.

Anyhoo, got back on dry land on 1 December and have been working at catching up with life-in-general ever since. I ran 8 miles this past weekend, so I'm on track for the Tinkerbell Half in January. Kudos to you Goofy's. I remember my marathon training days as I read your posts. Aaah, to be young and pain-free again!

Another accomplishment this week: On Sunday morning, I was out running just a bit later than usual (as it was cooler), and I saw Tinkerbell (the guy in my neighborhood who runs and bikes in a tutu) on his bike! Not that I'll ever play Fashion Police, I noticed he was wearing a festive red leotard and a bright pink skirt. Oooh, it clashed badly! But just as I was finishing with my mental assessment of his outfit, I looked up, and our eyes met, and he smiled at me, and said hello! A real first for us. A breakthrough! Of course, I reciprocated with a grand smile and a friendly hello. Maybe this is the start of a...strange friendship. In all sincerity, I do wish for peace and joy in this man's life, however he so chooses to live it. It takes all kinds to make this world go round and I'm happy that he's in mine.

Welcome to the new Ducks in the pond! :welcome: You'll find the waters are friendly here (well, except for the Duck drops on the Tower of Terror on any given race weekend when two or more Ducks are present).

To all the January Marathon Weekend runners: Keep up the great training! You're almost there!

I gotcha! I know I put in 5:01 for my finishing time hoping that would bump me out of that last corral but I will have to see what happens.

I cannot remember what I put for mine. I submitted a 10k time that I also used for the ToT run. I got a good corral for that (corral c) so maybe I will get a middle-back corral for the marathon weekend. Hope to find out soon!

Irishtwins-
I wanted to share my big toe story. It wasn't a sore joint, but an ingrown nail. Some other Ducks may recall this from Jan. 2012. The relay race was on Sunday and I had my toenail "surgery" done the previous Thursday. Ran 13.1 with a bandaged and bloody toe, and finished with my best time (at the time). So it can be done with a sore toe!

Renee-
Glad to hear the cruise was wonderful! And you kept up the running too :thumbsup2 Your story with Tinkerbell man had me cracking up! It's good that you had a moment with him. I'm guessing most avoid him ;) It's always nice to have fellow runners out there, isn't it? Even if they don't have the best fashion sense (says the girl who showed up to the race in her jammies). :)

:rotfl2: I need come run where you are. The runners I see are so boring!!
