Glad to hear from you, Renee! :goodvibes That's wonderful that you have some great routes to run right outside your door. :thumbsup2

I've been thinking about you and your family all through this "house" process, Carissa. I remember looking at all your furniture photos, thinking, "Boy, I'm glad I don't have to buy all that!" Ha! My BFF made it very clear that all my 80's furniture that I had in storage since I went overseas had to go and we had to start over. So I now have a new livingroom and formal diningroom. I got to keep my bedrooms. Whew! So then I laughed at myself when I knew I had outdone you in furniture purchases.

I spent most of this weekend weatherstripping all TWENTY of my windows - that open from the bottom AND the top. I could see daylight under the windows. Man, the house is dead quiet now!

I ran three miles tonight. One of my "must haves" when I bought was just that - running paths out my front door. If they aren't there, I won't go. How are your front door running options from your house?

Off to New Orleans for work for the rest of the week, then a nice, long, four-day weekend. Woo hoo!

Hello from the Storm Front. I am hoping the power doesn't go out on me as I write this - we are getting some nasty storms here in Jersey tonight!

Laura - I had to laugh about your daughter running the 5K. I convinced my DD13 to run my first 5K with me back in April. She kept having to stop and wait for me. Said she felt bad "leaving me behind"... until she spotted one of her friends in the neighborhood not too far ahead of us... then she left me in the dust. The good news is, she enjoyed running it so much that I just signed her up for 2 more 5Ks! We convinced DD10 to run with us as well. I train (almost) every day and I am sure they will both roll out of bed that morning and beat me across the finish line. ;)

Joe - WWOHP was very, very cool. This may sound sappy but I haven't had tears in my eyes at a theme park since we took my oldest (who is now 13) to have breakfast in Cinderella's Castle when she was 4. I unexpectedly got misty-eyed when we walked into HP b/c of the look on my DD10's face. She was in another world! Anyhow, we hit it just right: only a 15 minute wait for Olivander's and a 20 minute wait for Forbidden Journey. Getting there early is key. We had a great time at HP but I quickly realized I am NOT a Universal Person. AND how cool your family got to meet Daniel Radcliffe!?!?! My girls are after me to get tickets to see him on Broadway. I think DD10 would be rendered speechless if she got the chance to meet him. Hmmmm, her b-day is coming up. Wonder if that show is OK for a 10yo?

Renee - I hear you about the running paths. We are doing some preliminary house hunting and at the top of my list is access to plenty of good running neighborhoods/roads!

Carissa - Nice to see you back on FB - love the profile pic!

Augie - I assume we are more or less getting the same weather. Stinks for running, doesn't it? Bleeech.

OK, it's getting late, gotta go. Take Care Everyone! :cool2:

Hello all!!
Man I had a lot to catch up on! so many things happened here while I was away.
Running has been inconsistent and my goal now is to work up to a ten minute mile. Not as easy as I thought it would be and I blame most of that on my age. With all the yucky weather around here I have decided that the word "tread mill" is not a bad word.
I also decided that running in the morning was not to bad of an idea either. These things have helped. I am still slow but once again building muscle and endurance. I have yet to get on another Disney run but hope to in the near future so I can have that Disney motivation when I get up.

The boards here are much encouragement as well. :thumbsup2

Laura: Sorry to hear about your mother, she will be in my family's prayers.

Renee: Good Luck deciding on your fence design, I'm partial to the fleur de leis designs. As for running routes I have four options (all asphalt) out of my front door. I would love to have a gravel trail/path. Enjoy exploring your new routes.

LadyDooley: You'll be running those 10 min/mi before you know. :cheer2:

I had a really good week running last week. Still building my mileage up. I believe my wife has bought me a spinning bike for our anniversary. I hope I'm right, it would be awesome to have one. We'll see Friday morning. Anyway I hope everyone is doing well and stay safe out there training.

Tim

Hey Ducks! :wave2:

Thought I'd post before our thread falls onto page 2. :scared1:

I'm officially back into my running. The move from temporary housing to my own home took a toll on my training, but I'm back into the groove now. :hippie: I'm trying to get four runs in a week. Right now, I'm running 5K's. The heat is climbing, so there's really no "cool" part of the day to run. Last year, it was almost too cold to run all summer up in Alberta. Not sure how I'm gonna manage this training for the W&D Half, but I'll sort it out. Liz did it in HOT North Carolina, so I'll muster through.

Hope everyone had a GREAT holiday weekend. I spent it in town with friends and working around the house.

Heading to Holland for work on Saturday. Will be gone for nearly a week. I'll try to get some runs in. Really!

Stay cool, and quack on!

Renee: Too funny about your furniture! :rotfl: Enjoy your trip to Holland. Sounds wonderful. :goodvibes I live to travel, but haven't done much of it the past few years.

Robyn: Thanks! I love that picture too. Hope your running is going well. :thumbsup2

Karen: Welcome back!

Tim: So, did you get the bike?? Happy Anniversary! My husband and I just celebrated our 12th on the 23rd.

After completing the first two weeks of C25K, I took way too long off. I wasn't feeling well and used it as an excuse. But, I got back on yesterday and my plan right now is to run Monday - Friday with weekends off. Last night I also did a bunch of crunches, leg lifts, squats, and push ups. I still have more weight to lose and I need to get on it! I haven't lost anything since my initial 25 pounds by the middle of last year. I know losing more would help make running a bit easier for me so I need to get serious about it again.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi Ducks, have been busy so have not checked in in a while. Today was a Tri day, I rode to work, ran at lunch, and swam after work. And then rode home. Now I am ready for bed. I see that they are holding a full and half here the last weekend of September. I am thinking of doing the half but not sure as it is the week before the W&D. Don't think I am ready for a Goofy but a week in between sounds doable.

Have a good trip, Renee. I had a lot of layovers in Amsterdam when I was traveling all the time, and it was not until my last trip when there was a delay and I had 6 hours that I went into town and realized how close it was. Neat place, have fun!

Have a good weekend, Ducks!

Hello to all my Duck friends. I hope everyone is doing good:thumbsup2.
I have been doing good with my running 3 times a week, I just need to get off my butt and do some cross training on the other days. I did some 800's at the track last Saturday for speed work, that was a tough workout, but pretty good.
Debbie and I have our 10K tomorrow morning. This was the race I did last year that was my first running race ever. I did it in 59 minutes, but felt awful afterwords, I ended up sleeping for 5 hours when I got home. I am shooting for a PB and being able to stick around after the race for the Taste of Ann Arbor festivities. I will let you know how it went.

Robyn: Steph said your daughter will like the musical with Dan in it.
Here is a clip of one of the musical numbers to see if she would like it. http://youtu.be/ceyoPY0uUms
Have a good week everyone.
Joe

Hi, I'm Savannah and I'll be running Donald this year - it will be my third half at Disney and the 9th or 10th half that I've run. Nice to meet you!

Carissa: She got me a gift card to the equipment store so I can pick out the one I want. She said it was too much pressure picking out the right one. I will be getting it within the next two weeks.

Savannah: :welcome: Nice to meet you!

This week has been dedicated to morning running. So I've started a new routine: 3 am yoga, 3:30 cardio/wt train, 4 run. It sure makes it easy to fall asleep at night. But so far it's been nice beating the heat.

I hope all of you have been doing well and good luck with your training.

Tim

Good Morning Everyone!

I need to take a moment to celebrate. For the first time since I started running four months ago, I woke up and was looking forard to my run. My body has finally decided it does not hate running. :rotfl:

And after some setbacks with the heat, I am finally getting close to the pace I would like to maintain for the half!

WAAAHOOOOO!!!!!!!

That's a really good feeling. Congratulations!! :woohoo:

Savannah - Welcome! :cool1:

Tim - Awesome! And kudos to you to getting up so early to workout! I don't think I could do that (okay - so I'm sure I could, but I wouldn't want to :rolleyes1 ). That's dedication!

sounds like everyone is doing well even with this summer heat!!!

Keep it up and KEEP RUNNING!!!

I'm back from the other side of the pond (and this seems appropriate, being that I'm a Defiant Duck ;)). Amsterdam was fun and productive!

Turns out, my boss runs, too. But she's 5 years younger, and a good 40 pounds lighter than me. I mentioned that I wanted to go running on Tuesday after work and she chimed in that she wanted to go, too. I knew I'd be holding her back, but she said she didn't care. In the end, she pushed me, while I held her back, and she cut about 30 seconds per mile off my time. Moreover, we ran 4.5 miles - longer than I've run all year! We also went running on Thursday after work and she cut my time some more. It kicked my butt, but in a good way.:upsidedow Of course, the temperature last week in Amsterdam wasn't over 70 degrees, so the running was pleasant.

Now I'm back to running in HOT Houston. The humidity may do me in here soon, but I'm gonna keep battling at it. I need to get my endurance up, especially in the heat.

It's great to keep up with everyone here. Glad so many are finding ways to keep up the running (or biking or strength training).

Quack on!

I have to share as I'm pretty excited.....
Well, 5+ weeks after knee surgery and the doctor gave me the green light! I can bike, elliptical, and walk/run on the treadmill. :cool1: This is so exciting. He doesn't want me pounding the pavement until I can do 10-15 minutes on the treadmill AND no pain the next day. It can only get better from here! :woohoo:

Hi Ducks! How is everyone?

Welcome Savannah! You have more halfs than I have, good work.

Tim, nice that you can get up so early to do your training.

Jenifred, good job on the training!

Disney runner, that's great that you can start training again. Good Luck!

Renee, welcome back, sounds like you had a good trip. It's good to run (or train in general) with a faster person, makes you faster! You won't have problems at Disney if you can beat the Texas heat!

Ran a 5K yesterday, a bit slower time than last year, but did get a second in my age group. My next big adventure is the Brewery to Brewery Ride, Boston to VT, next weekend. This will be my third time. One of the best organized ride I have done.

Have a great week, everyone!

Tanya: Great news about your knee. Good luck with your training and take it slow.

Augie: You are a beast, awesome job on the 5k. Good Luck with your upcoming ride.

I had a good week with my training, I believe I'm acclimated to the morning routine. I also found a new place to run this weekend, it is a 1.8 mi (one-way) trail. It has a rock garden, rock climbs, creek crossings and a good bit of elevation change. I ended up adding a little distance to hit an even 4 mi. Let me just say it was a fun new route, but challenging.

Hope everyone is doing well, Good luck training and be safe out there.

Tim

I think I'm gonna follow Tim's lead and cut to morning runs next week. This heat here, even in the evenings, is killing me. We're forecasted for 100 on Friday and 103 on Saturday. And it's mid-June!:scared1:

So I'm gonna try the "get up at dark-thirty, stretch, run, cool, and shower" before work next week. I thnk I'll start on Saturday. It's just too tough waiting to run until after 7 PM, then trying to eat and get to bed at a time conducive to morning work hours. I'm actually looking forward to it - a little. Just need to dig out my reflective vest.

Augie - Great job on the 5K. Have fun onthe B2B this weekend!

Liz - I've been tracking your workouts on FB. Keep it up! The bike is a great low-impact exercise. And look at Augie. He runs half marathons almost solely on bicycle training.

Welcome to all the new Ducks. :welcome: Hope you're enjoying the water here. And to all the Ducks - have a great weekend!
