Imus becomes the "topic" rather than the thug who was arrested for a shooting at a night club and has a history of six arrests. The Dallas Cowboys have earned the name, the "Dallas Convicts" for a reason. Should he have asked what color he was? Probably not but the bigger concern to me are NFL criminals who make zillions of dollars and get to keep their jobs despite their criminal history.
On Mondays show, Imus and Wolf were discussing Jones request Saturday that people stop using his nickname. Wolf explained Jones was suspended from the NFL following a shooting at a Las Vegas nightclub, and he added that Jones had been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.
Imus next words were, What color is he? If the answer was "he is white", would anyone have noticed?
I wanted to clear some things up here Dawn and point out some errors you made.
First off the Dallas Cowboys are not known as the Dallas Convicts and currently have one player on their roster who has been in trouble with the law and served time. That's Tank Johnson of the Chicago Bears who after serving his time in the Cook County jail, then released by the Bears, served a 5 game suspension by the NFL, then was signed to a 2 year league minimum contract by Dallas. He has kept his nose clean and so far, made the most of his final chance in the NFL. He was told by the commissioner of the NFL (Roger Goodall) that any more slip ups can mean a life time ban. Tank Johnson was not a member of the Dallas Cowboys when he was arrested and jailed for his mistakes. I think you know that and it's dishonest to lump the Cowboys in with what Johnson had done. He made his mistakes with another team.
Adam Jones is not on the roster of the Dallas Cowboys and has only been cleared by the commissioner of the NFL to practice and work out with the team. He can not play in any games and Roger Goodall says he will make the final decision on September 1st, whether Jones will be allowed to suit up and actually play in regular season, NFL game. A lot can happen between now and then and if Jones so much farts the wrong way he get a lifetime ban as well. He knows this and so does the Dallas Cowboy organization who has surrounded him with security, player development and consulting by "Calvin Hill" who has worked with the team since 1997. Did you know Dawn that the Cowboys lead the league with their player assistance program and is considered an innovation and a model for other teams to follow and copy it? Do you know has said that? Peter King of SI.com and Inside the NFL on HBO. Peter King also said that Adam Jones is in the best possible situation he can be in as a member of the Cowboys. Look it up if you don't believe me, it's all there in print. I tell no lies.
As a fan of the Dallas Cowboys all of my life and a person who follows their every move, I wanted to point out your mistakes concerning them.
Is Adam Jones a punk and a thug? Did he do some stupid things and hang out with the wrong people, hangerons, groupies, etc? Does his behavior mirror the many problems and poor choices young black men make and face in today's society?
Yes, but it seems Adam Jones is trying to change his ways and is working out with Deion Sanders to stay on the straight and narrow. From all appearances he's doing a good job, but has a long way to go to repair his image. I'm willing to give him a chance to see if he can make it, but if he goes back to his old ways then he will richly deserve his lifetime ban the NFL will give him. It will be no skin off my rear end if doesn't make it and the Cowboys protected themselves as well, through the draft and with Adam's new contract.
As for Imus, Dawn, you and I both know what he meant and he was stupid for saying what he did. He even looks more foolish by trying to back peddle today and say he was defending Adam Jones and the police were racial profiling him, etc, etc. I'm sorry Dawn, it's a ridiculous story and a truly lame excuse. Both of my 10 year old boys can lie better than that.
