I was at DollarTree today to buy my glowie accessories and they wouldn't sell them to me...they're on a recall list! Darn!! :sad1: I was told it's thought they have too much lead in them.

I purchased some a couple of weeks ago. Should DD10 be okay wearing them if they do indeed have too much lead in them? She doesn't put them in her mouth.

I need your opinions...Keep and use them, or throw them away?

could be cause of the new law that went into effect 2/10 ? with higher standards on all childrens items as far as lead is concerned... I guess to be safe you could just return them- I saw packs recently at Michaels w/ a lot of disney stuff in the $1 bin isle

Oh, shoot..did they say anything about how to return them? I have some for my next trip...Plus, I sent several 2 weeks ago with some little girls.....Do you know if they are only from Dollar Tree? Thank you.

I am sure it's because of the new lead law. I work for a manufacturer and we've had to retest most of kids stuff due to the more stringent laws. This product was deemed safe before the new law but some of it will be destroyed due to elevated lead in a very, very small portion of the product (not toys).

Anyway, I think you are ok to use the glow sticks, I'll use mine. But hey, I am a child of the 70's, also I grew up in a very old house with lead paint so I may be losing it. :)

Thanks for posting this!

When I told the cashier at DollarTree I had bought some last week she said she'd just throw them away to be safe. :worried: I don't think they give refunds for anything.

I'm not sure if it's just theirs or if all are recalled.

Aw, sorry that happened. I would suggest throwing them out. Even if your DD will not put them in her mouth. I suppose it would be fine if she washes her hands afterward, etc. But I still would suggest throwing them out just to be safe. The symptoms can be very serious to lead poisoning. Because I believe you can get it from being around the lead too long as well. Not just eating it. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a doctor so I cant really tell you what to do or what not to. I would just be on the safe side and throw them away though. And then maybe you can find some that were not recalled. I do know that they sell them in Disney, but horribly overpriced. Goodluck!:confused3

Hi, My Dollar Store has new glow stuff, I picked some up today. The manager told me they had pulled all the units that had the lead and got newer glow stuff that met the new lead laws. The packaging is much different than the old one's but the price is still a dollar!

I get all my glow braclets at Michael's. You get 15 for $1.00. They're in a little tube where the dollar stuff is.

I usually buy our glow items from DollarTree for trips to WDW, but this year ordered from Oriental Trading instead. They have glow flower leis and they really look neat! A dozen for $17.99 and I ordered a few other things as well from their catalog to justify the shipping. I can't wait to see them...certainly different. :goodvibes

I always get my glow stuff on Ebay. We buy tubes of 100 bracelet size glow sticks with connectors for about $10 including shipping. You have to be careful when doing it though, because some of the vendors list the items for under a dollar and then charge upwards of $30 for shipping. We've had marvelous luck with what we've bought in the past, and the last pack we bought recently met the new guidelines (at least according to my husband who says he knows what they are :confused3 ).

They give credit. I bought something for my 1st graders that I was doing field with and decided to get something else. So they let me exchange for two different things.

I have some but don't know how old they are...does anyone have a pic of the new packaging (of the ones that meet the new standard)????
