I was on Hotwire and found a rate for rental in June. :drive: The woman confirmed they would take the debit and not charge card until returned. I can cancel if I find a better rate. I am still concerned about this information.
But,
They will p/u in 5 mile radius of Dollar: 1850 hotel plaza blvd, Lake Buena Vista.

. Debit Card Usage: If the customer presents a debit card at the beginning of rental to qualify to rent, we will perform a debit card check and credit inquiry screening through Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc. This type of inquiry will screen out customers who present a greater driving risk to us, using a standard set of criteria. In the event that a customer's debit card check and credit inquiry fail to meet our debit card criteria, the customer will not be allowed to rent unless they provide a major credit card in their own name. Our debit card policy complies with all applicable U.S. federal and state laws. Debit cards are accepted for payment at the end of rental without a credit inquiry. Debit cards may not be accepted in Canada except for payment at the end of rental. Since credit requirements vary by location, please refer to the Local Policies for specific information on the acceptance and usage of debit cards where you intend to rent a DOLLAR vehicle.

This is copied directly from the Dollar site. So, if you pass the credit check criteria, you're good to go. If you don't, not so good.

There are so many reasons not to use a Debit Card. It might be a good idea to get a low limit credit card for your rental.

I paid off our credit cards years ago when we took out the home equity. No debt, and a second bank account for debit when traveling. I keep just enough for hotel, meals. Then some cash. Good thing as the one trip we had an emergency dental visit and needed the cash.

My son, is saying he does not think we need a rental because if they decide to stay later, a resort bus ride to the GF and p/u is not that difficult. The resort is only 10 minutes away.

Can always use the xtra money on better things for sure.

My mom recently rented a car for me and because it was a low credit limit card they would only let me have the car for a certain number of days. This was Avis.

never use a debit card for any travel related purchase...especially in orlando.

Mistakes are made constantly...and can be done with a simple mouse "misclick"...unlike credit cards...the time it takes to correct a debit error can really get a person into a bind.

because it has a "visa" logo on it...doesn't mean its "like a credit card". its basically an electronic check book.

We will NEVER rent from Dollar rental car again!!!! They tried to bill us for a long dent on a mini van we rented. They are suppose to give you a paper in which you can circle damage before you rent from them, but they were out of the forms and when we arrived back with the vehicle I mentioned it once again to them, so as not to be charged for the damage, only to find out that they bills us for it !!!!

Then,(don't ask me why) but we tried them again for our daughters wedding in Disney back in November of 2011. We had reservations for two large vehicles and when we were picking them up, the guy put in the wrong dollar amount, so instead of a total of 500.00 he put in 5000.00 !!!! which caused our credit card to be denied!!! Their system locks you out for 24 hours from renting from them whenever this happens!! We ended up with NO RENTALS!! Needless to say we were very upset and demanded to speak with top management. They were NO HELP! We ended up going to National Car rental at the next desk over and they had overheard this whole situation go down, so they offered us a discounted rate on both vehicles which actually saved us almost $150.00. BE AWARE WHEN YOU GO WITH DOLLAR RENTAL CAR! They are ALL about the buck!!!
