*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

Liz - My knee pain comes and goes. I've always found that even with monthly massages, it gets really bad in the middle of training. I guess it's just one of those things. I usually go in for an ART treatment then. Glad to hear that your knee is feeling better! I'm off to check out the brochure.

Rhonda - WTG on the 10 miler!

What are your plans that day?

We are going to be somewhere in the parks. My brother and mother may be there for a day so it's in flux. We are staying until Wednesday. We're hoping to do the dessert gathering at Epcot Sunday.

Printing brochure now.

I've got my last 12 miles tomorrow! And the forecast: SNOW!!!! Ugh!

Today is a day of rest and it is the most beautifull day of the week. It is still cold (6F) but the sun is present and there is no wind. I would have loved that weather on Wednesday or yesterday but...
I have started packing my suitcase but I just don't know what I will wear for the run. Right now I have decided that it will be warm enough to be wearing short and shirt with short sleeve :upsidedow. Even if it is 40F,it is warm for me right now :lmao:.
I have checked the program and I am sure I will be there pretty early on Thursday morning. Since I am alone, I will take my time going through the expo. I will spend so much money :rotfl:. That is why I must leave with my suitcase empty because it will be full when I will come back in Canada.
Have a nice day

Diane

okay so I'm on Defcon 5...

I have bronchitis.

I tried to talk the doctor out of it. I tried to blame my asthma...I asked if she was sure several times.

She raised her eyebrow at me and said "You can't reason away what is...and IT is bronchitis..."

The doctor knows of my upcoming race. She told me I could walk on the treadmill...slowly. But I am not to run and I'm not to go outside and run or walk under any circumstances for at least 7 days...which is a given as we are having Blizzard warnings.

am I done?

I feel slightly defeated...and mad at germy people who don't cover their mouths when they cough.

*sigh*

hope everyone else is doing well and staying healthy.

Good luck Miss Cammie! Take it easy and follow the doctor's orders. I want you to be healthy so you can share some stories about your kiddos during the race.

Rest and get completely healthy. You are so close that your previous cardio will survive 3 weeks. Just go with a goal to finish and not worry about time. I have had a couple of my 4 Goofys where I had to completely shut down for 4 weeks and finished. They were just tougher!

See you in 3 weeks!

I just found out horrible news---DH and I are not going to be able to go to the 1/2 in January. We signed up last Feb. and have been planning and now due to the "bad economy" we can't swing the trip  I called to see about cancelling and they said that even if we cancel, we can't get any of the entrance fee back. That is bad, but I can deal with it, but we also prepaid for t-shirts and pins and they will not refund that money or send the products. How do I get them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

DreamWeaver - I sent you a PM asking if you'd want to sell your number (is that even possible?). So sorry you can't do the race.

Technically you can't buy a bib number. Disney doesn't allow transfers. You would have to run under their name, get their size shirt, and be chip timed as them. If you do something like this, just don't wear the timing chip as you will effect the results of the race.

Hi everyone,
Sounds like a lot of us are having a few challenges as the race approaches. Keep your chins up and believe. I know we can all do it!

As for me I just returned from an 11 miler. My time was 2:06:30. I had to get the run in this afternoon because apparently the Mid Atlantic is about to get hit with a whale of a snowstorm. I'll guess we'll see. It was a pretty good run, but cold enough I never took off my hat or gloves. My body might go into shock with the Disney temps. I'm with Frenchlady. Definitely will be shorts and short sleeves for me:goodvibes

awww, thanks!!! How are you? good to *see* you!! :goodvibesI wish wish wish I could sit down and finish that trip report. I actually have a ton of that was written a long while ago, but I just haven't had to time get pictures downloaded. Maybe I should just put up what I've already got. It's been an INSANE year. Thanks for the cheerleading!!! Much needed. I am SO mad at being sick. And I sound like a barking seal and my puppy keeps barking at me b/c it's scaring her!

Wow...4 Goofy races under your belt? :worship::worship::worship::worship:

It is my dream to actually enter, run and finish Goofy's Race and a half!

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence. I think I can finish...I'm sure I can. Just have to put one foot in front of the other. I am seriously having nightmares about sweepers. They are always wearing green shirts and red shoes and waving orange flags at me and screaming "FAILURE!!!!!!"

scary.

:goodvibes

I think Robert pegged the correct advice.

Recover and get well. I had the flu - struck 12/23/99. I was at my parents house and did not get out of bed until 12/29 when I had to drive the family home. The first week of Jan I could barely make lunch and would have to head home. I finally started getting energy back about 3 days beofre our trip to WDW. I did not think that I would even start.... But i made it to the end in good fashion.

Long way of saying - get well. You will lose a little cardio. But you have banked enough to get the half done, medal received and feel good about the effort. I am going to be STRICTER than the doc - DO NOT even think about the TM. Remember in the head, go ahed - in the chest, give it a rest.

I have a 12 miler in the morning with 2.5 inches of snow forecast for tonight here in central Il. I guess I will have to see what it looks like in the morning. This will be my 2nd WDW 1/2 and I am just as excited about this one as the first time I ran it.

My ultimate goal is to run the Goofy in 2011. I have yet to run a marathon, but I have one picked out close to home next May. The course is flat and hopefully the temps won't be to bad in early May.

I really want a marathon under my belt before I run the Goofy. I admit I am totally excited about running the Goofy, but also nervous about it being able to complete both races back to back so to speak. Goofy is my favorite Dis character as you can tell by my username, and I really really want that GOOFY medal.

Robert, that is fantastic that you have done 4 of them. Also, I have some pictures of you that I took while running the Disneyland 1/2 in September. I took some pics while we were running backstage and you are in several of them. Pretty hard to miss your kilt!!!! If you would like I can email them to you.:cool1:

Goofy is definitely doable! I would do a marathon for sure to get a feel how those extra miles feel. I just train for a marathon for all 5 of my Goofy's. Respect the race and don't fear it!

I will PM you an email address for the pics! Thanks!

Rainy and cold in NC this weekend. Weather man can't decide if we are getting rain or snow

Tomorrow I have a fun 5k with my son and Sunday is my long run. Haven't decided what I will run since I did my surprise 1/2 marathon last Saturday - maybe 8-10 miles.

Did speed intervals last night - I really do like them...

Here's to a great weekend of running for all

After a great half, expect Sunday to not feel quite as good. 8-10 sounds like a good goal but do not be upset if the legs say 4-6. The general rule of thumb is allow 1 day per mile of race for recovery. Take it easy this weekend.

I'll tell you what...I tried to get my stubborn self on the treadmill...just to see if I could. My husband heard it start up and comes thundering down the stairs, rips the start cord out and orders me back to the couch. There wasn't much I could do once he had the emergency start cord in his much taller than me hand. :headache:

but he was right...just going down the stairs to the basement got me coughing. I need to be smart about this...which is difficult for a Texan girl with an Irish stubbornness!

I much appreciate the advice. It makes me feel so much better to know that other people have been more ill than I am and still managed to finish the race.

darn snow storm is fixing to hit us...(one of the many times I'm wishing I'd stayed in Texas!)

stay warm and safe everyone!!!

I've been MIA for a bit. Year-end is busy at work, plus holiday prep, etc. has kept me pretty busy. I've been doing OK with my training until today!

I am supposed to run 10 miles today...during the biggest snow the DC area has seen in a very long time! I really don't think I can get through 10 miles on a dreadmill at the gym - if the gym is even open. There is a short indoor track at the army base near my house - if the base is even open. Hmph.

I'd end up posting a novel if I responded to everyone I want to respond to, but I'm sorry for those who need to pull out of the race and wish everyone who is sick or injured a quick return to health.

Don't know if this helps but running with a congested head is actually not all that bad. The Rule of Thumb - In the head go ahead, in the chest give it a rest.

OK, I needed that. I developed an ugly head cold over the last 2 days.

Is anyone else already stressing over what to wear for the race?

Another cold one this morning (-10F) but I went and did my 5 miles. I think cold weather is better than a foot of snow. Good luck to those of you affected my the big snowstorm on the east coast.
I have officially started packing my suitcase :cool1:.

Have a nice day and enjoy the snow :lmao:
