*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

I just got back from South Carolina. I did a few short walks and a couple of long ones. The first long one was 8 miles at a 15:22 mpm pace. The other one was 9 miles at a 15:20 mpm pace. After the 9 mile walk, I walked another 2 miles along the beach with my husband (but at a much more leisurely pace!) I'm beginning to feel ready for the race except for one problem that I am having. Lately I have been having a lot of pain on the right side of my back, not really back problems more like "trunk" problems. I have been trying to do more excercises to build up my core strength, but it hasn't helped. I didn't have this problem last year at the Princess and I have even lost some weight since then. I think that I am too "well endowed" for all this athletic activity! Any ideas on what to do??

Hi everyone, I'm excited to find that people are discussing their training here!

I haven't had time to read through this whole thing (I always lose track of all these loooong threads!! how on earth does one keep up??) but I'm just going to go for it and start posting... because I'm so excited to be semi-on-track for my training for once! I did 8 miles this past weekend and felt good. The weather cooperated and I didn't freeze my butt off. :)

Good luck everyone, and hope to see you in January!!

:sunny:

Welcome sunshine girl! :)

It sounds like there was lots of great training this past weekend! I did my short run on Saturday bringing my total for last week to almost 20 miles. So I feel like I made up for my missed training the previous week a little bit.

This week I haven't run at all yet. Things are busy with the holiday and company coming...lots to do. I'm hoping to get in a short run today, and then I'll be doing Tracy's Virtual Turkey Trot 10K on Thanksgiving, and I plan to do 8 or so miles on Saturday. So, hopefully all of that will happen and life will not get in my way.

Keep it up everyone! Less than 7 weeks to go!

:donald: ATTENTION ALL DONALD DOERS!!! :donald:

Jenny/dismagiclover and I have planned a Donald meet for us! Here are the details:

When: Friday, January 8th @ 4pm
Where: POP, outside of gift shop

We ordered nametags from Tracy, here is her thread if you'd like to order one too: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2217748

Let us know if you'll be coming. We hope to see everyone there!

Also remember that the main WISH meet will be right after that: 4:30pm in the POP food court.

(I'm going to repost this every week or so to make sure everyone sees it! Thanks all!)

Hi Liz!

I don't know if I'll make it to the pre-WISH meet. I have my TNT pasta party at Epcot at 2, so I will probably just make it to the WISH meet at 4:30.

Hope to see everyone there!

I'm a pretty shy person so you'll probably see me lurking around here and there during the meet :)

I hope to make it to POP for both meets.

I did five miles before work this morning. It was the best time of day to run as it got colder and wetter as the day dragged on. Pretty good times, too.

Hi all! I did 4 miles on Tuesday night on my treadmill in 45 minutes.
This morning I did Tracy's virtual Turkey Trot 10K outside in the misty and foggy morning in 67 minutes! woohoo!

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Donalds!!! Have a wonderful day! :sunny:

Happy Thanksgiving

DGF and I headed out early this morning. She did three and I got in five. Thought about the virtual 10k and ran extra hills instead. Should have taken the distance. We were fast!

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

Ronda

Good evening,
I did the 10k virtual race this morning and it was the fastest I ever did. I suppose that those long runs are beginning to have an effect and it is fun.
It was a beautiful morning with a beautiful sun and 45F. My fingers are crossed but no snow yet in Quebec.
This week-end I am doing a 16k again and it will not be easy because I am working evenings and I am never home before 1:00 Am. I am going to need some help to wake up at 6:30am to go for my run.

I am staying at Pop Century during marathon week-end so I will be at the meeting at 4:00 pm.

Diane :santa:

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving yesterday (or, I guess last month if you are in Canada!).

My family ran an organized Turkey Trot in a nearby town. This was the boy's first 5K and frankly, my first run-only race. I've run several triathlons and Expedition Everest Challenge twice, but never a straight-up running race until yesterday. End of the story . . . all of my guys kicked my butt! :rotfl2::rotfl2: Good golly, am I slow. I think I'll just look at it as a good 1/2 marathon pace. :lmao:

Here's how we finished:
DH - 22:25
DS11 - 29:57
DS9 - 33:09
me - 35:58

DS9 has a hockey tournament for the rest of the weekend, so we'll be busy, busy, busy!

Hi everyone!
You are all doing so great! We are going to rock that Donald:woohoo: Can't wait to meet everyone that can make it at the DIS meet. It will actually be my first DIS meet ever so I'm excited. (Though I'll be with Liz who is an old pro.)

sk8tingmom That is so cool that your whole family participated in the 5K. Who cares about your time (though I don't think it's too slow. I've done slower 5Ks). What a great lesson your boys are learning!

I did my long run today. 9 miles in 1:44:30. That is 30 seconds faster than last weeks 9 miles. I was pleasantly suprised at my time because it was pretty windy. It's amazing how that putting one foot in front of the other actually adds up:goodvibes
Hope everyone had a great turkey day and has great training running off that dinner!

Here I am at work, drinking my french vanilla coffee and looking out the window and it is snowing :scared1:. I did not want snow before December 20, once my long runs are over. Why? Why?
Anyway, I did a 5 k run this morning just before the rain; it was foggy and very humid.
Saturday is a day off but I am working overtime and Sunday is my long run. I hope the snow will have time to disappear because I want to go back on the bike trail where it is flat.
40 days and I will be with Mickey :cool1:

I for one am very much looking forward to my Monday rest day :cool1:

Saturday I had 5 miles at race pace and managed to take 3 mins off my 5 mile time. Today I had 10 miles as my long run and managed to take 23 minutes off of my last 10 milers.. Progress is finally being seen. I will feel ready for Jan 9th when these 10 miles become easy like my 5 milers... Hopefully it will happen in the little bit of time remaining...

Hope everyone else managed to get in some good runs.

5k on tap for next weekend followed by 11-12 miles

Great job on all your runs everybody!!! I was able to do a half today! My first one. I finished in 1:51:18, 13.17 miles pace was 8:27. Not bad! My goal is to finish under 2 hrs at the half. I'm ready for this thing!!!

Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving :)

Great job to everyone! I managed to get out yesterday for a 9 mile run and felt good the whole time. The weather is starting to get worse for the winter and I'm not looking forward to cold and snow... luckily, on the day of my run it was relatively nice out!

Still, the gray weather is back today and it's a bummer. I'm just not a cold, gray and snowy weather girl. I can't wait until January for a nice dose of Florida sun!!

Great job.. I would love to have your pace....

Happy Monday all! Less than 6 weeks til the big day!

I did my long run this weekend. It was somewhere between 9.25 and 9.5 miles in 1hr 45min. I am feeling it today!!

I did notice that after 7 miles my legs began to get fatigued. I was able to continue, just a bit slower. I have not eaten anything during my runs so far, but maybe I'm to that point where I should? Will eating something help with my legs getting tired? Are those gels and things meant for that?

So my question for each of you is: What do you eat (and drink, if it's something other than water) during your long runs? Thanks!

sk8~ Congrats on your family 5K!! You all did great! I hope someday my family can do that.

Jenny~ Way to go on your 9 miler, faster than last weekend! woohoo!

Diane~ So sorry about the snow! Hang in there, less than 6 weeks til Florida! :sunny:

Joanne~ That's so great you did your 10 miles faster!! Now if you'll already be doing 11-12 miles this weekend, what are your plans for your long runs for the weeks after that?

Lynn~ Congrats on the HALF!!! You are doing awesome. You are ready!!

sunshine girl~ Way to go on the 9 miles!
I lived in Michigan for the first 19 years of my life, so I feel for you with the dreaded winter coming. I hope it goes easy on you until after the half!

How did your Sunday run go? I really hope the snow was all gone for you. Luckily it doesn't snow much in MD until after the new year.

23 minutes off of your time:worship: That is incredible! Do you think 10 milers ever get easy? This is my 3rd half and anything over about 7 miles is still always tough for me:confused3

:worship::worship::worship: Way to go girl! I'm thinking you'll even have time for a few pictures and get in under 2 hours! Just make sure you aren't stuck behind a slow poke like me at the start!

That is awesome you felt good the whole 9 mile run! That means you'll be ready on race day:goodvibes

I just finished an almost 5 miler. I was trying to beat the rain. I left as soon as the kids were all gone, but I didn't quite make it. When I was at 3 miles the rain came so I ran the last 1.75 in the rain. My DH is always telling me running in the rain is great, but I never believed him. Well now I've experienced it and I can see what he means. It was cool to hear the pitter patter on the leaves. It wasn't bad at all for a little while, but I don't think I could do a long run in the rain:rolleyes1
Hope everyone that didn't report was able to get in some good training this weekend. We are under six weeks:woohoo:
